Health Update

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've updated you. I can't get on Patreon on my phone. The app is a pain. Finally had the strength to get on the computer today.

It's been a rough ride. Seven days of IV chemo, as well as chemo in a pill every day since I got here. Apparently, chemo has come a long way. I haven't been sick, nor have I lost hair. Doc says it's more targeted now. It just makes me extremely tired and weak. And on top of that my white cells and hemoglobin are virtually non-existent. I have no immune system right now. Had 12 or 13 blood transfusions since I've been here. Lost track.

I take about 20-25 pills a day. And I haven't been allowed to leave the room for weeks. Apparently I'm a magnet for infection right now. Though they're possibly letting me out today for some very brief sunshine therapy. But I've heard that before. Maybe not such a good idea since it's already 108 RealFeel® here today.

Oh, forgot to tell you that when I came in, I also had a kidney stone, a UTI, and my kidneys were failing, but not acutely. To deal with the kidney stone, they put a stent in (while I was under). And then took it out while I was awake without anesthetic, which I'm pretty sure was a war crime. Five minutes of unrelenting agony. Awful!!!

They've fixed my kidneys, the stone is gone, and I no longer have a UTI. I pretty much lay in bed 24/7. But they do allow visitors — masked and at a distance. Saw Sean (Jesse/Jesus) for the first time since before the pandemic. And Jimbo has kept in close contact. Amy too.

I've been able to make a couple of Facebook updates because I could do that on my phone. So look for those. But hopefully, I'll have a little more energy to post here and keep you updated.

I hope you're all doing well. And again, I'm so grateful for your continued support. Based on what they've told me, I might be able to make a few videos in October. But the number will be less than you're used to — like last month, but even less. Take care! B

P.S.: The doctors and nurses are all amazing here at Long Beach Memorial. They take wonderful care of me, and are genuinely the best people in the world — the nurses especially. I feel very lucky!

Brian, Just saw your “like”, does this mean you are on the other side of the cancer ugliness? What a tough road! I’ve missed seeing you and your posts! Please share that you are on the upswing, feeling new and improved. And just take care of your own sweet self! 💕

Brian, thanks for your candid, informative, graphic, and eloquent report. You’re enduring something fearsome that any of us someday may also experience, trail-blazing, as it were. Hang in there!

I'm glad you pulled through this ordeal. Hope to see you back soon.

Sorry to hear about your health issues, I would send you all my Hopes and prayers for a full recovery, but I know you don't need that BS, just my absolute best wishes. Cheers Brian, from Jim.

Not sure what to say but to hang in. I started to watch Mr. Diety from the beginning and I am once again amazed at how incredibly far you've come with your insights (or those of other atheist activists, let's not split hairs). I so appreciate your work and wish you all the best for your convalescence! No thoughts and prayers. Those are bad-bad.

Hey man, you are very important to me and many others. Thank you so much for your work and if you can't do that anymore so be it. You are loved Brian.

May the Blessing of Mr. Deity be on you. I haven't followed you on this situation because YOU know I'm busy with my own health battles. I guess you're getting a bone marrow implant for the platelet disease? I do wish you the very best Bri. You're in my prayers to Mr Deity. Did you hear that Bri, it's all on you? LOL (and for deity's sake play that backlog of answering machine messages damnit!!) BTW I'm at 15 kidney stones and counting. Not saying this to one-up you but in commiseration. Once I had five in one kidney and they did it in two operations, first for 2 and then 3. I got a UTI first time and septicemia the second. I asked the surgeon if he had forgotten to wash his hands. If we don't smile, we'll cry, so smile pal. I hope you're keeping the nurses entertained!! I'm so glad to see the cast still has that love we all saw in Mr. Deity! You're a real mensch, Bri!

Thanks for the update. I know all of your friends and followers hope for the best. Take care of yourself first and foremost. I thought the bit about putting on your magic underwear was priceless!!!! I'm in San Antonio where it's just about as hot, so stay cool!!

There's a breakthrough in cancer treatment about every six months. The targeted therapies are amazing. And I once had to deal with a stent for a kidney stone. Not fun. Hang in there.

Good news, Bri! Painful and frustrating but your body's To Do list is getting checked off, at least. Take all the time you need to heal. Your True Believers will be here when you return.

Thanks for the update, Brian. It’s reassuring to know your care team is providing the kind of support we all need in tough times. Of course we all look forward to enjoying your future productions, but please be careful, conservative and patient with yourself in scheduling your work.

Hi, Brian! My husband and I have been thinking about you constantly since we got the news. I’m so sorry you are going through all that right now. Logging in to Patreon just now — no joke, my security code Patreon sent me actually had a variation (sound) of the “f” word in it. 🤣 The random coincidence felt so real, it almost made me believe in God. BTW…If you can’t say the “f” word at the hospital during all the agony you’re going through, I’ll happily say it for you! 🤗🤗

Brian, it’s times like this that I wish thoughts and prayers accomplished anything besides making me feel like I’m doing something, but do know that I’ll maintain my support on Patreon and keep watching your videos, along with being grateful that you’re receiving such great care from skilled doctors and nurses , who are infinitely more useful that that imaginary sky daddy.

S
Suhail Shah · August 28, 2026

You're a trooper.. you'll be fine. I'm a physician I guarantee it 😀. Get better. This initial period is the most taxing and trying and horrible. We will celebrate once you're in remission... reply to this comment if you need anything... much love!

Mark D Larsen · August 28, 2026

Oh, Brian… hang in there. Damn, this is a rough challenge, no doubt about it. I’m just glad you’ve got competent doctors and nurses rather than some zealot with a tiny vial of consecrated oil. I had problems with kidney stones in the past, and know that they can cause the worst pain imaginable. Someone told me that drinking a beer per day helps, so I now have a Modelo Negra every night and haven’t suffered a kidney “arrowhead” for years. Knock on wood…? Sounds like the chemo has really improved, and I’m glad for you! Take CARE!

J
Joe Barrett · August 28, 2026

Sending best wishes and continued healing to you! I had a kidney stone that they got by "going up the Amazon". You're right. Taking out the stent was the most painful thing ever! Had my wife and nurse holding my hands at the time. I don't know about you, but since then I don't have a stream I have a spray. :) Good luck!!
