WOTM: Is Christianity More Plausible Now?
Hey Gang! Hope you all had a spectacular Thanksgiving. I was working my ass off and got four videos finished. I'll post two today and two tomorrow. I'll post the rest when I get them finished. I'm just about to get all pretty and shoot the other three (fun Xmas stuff!).
Once again, Alex O'Conner is making everyone wonder. This is the first of two videos responding to him, because just as I'd shot this one, he posted another complaining about everyone being confused. He seems to have no idea why or how he's confusing people. So, I thought I'd help out. I'm shooting that second video in just a few.
Thanks again for all your ongoing support! I am mortally grateful. Wish I could be eternally grateful, but I don't see that happening.
Welcome new Patrons! And enjoy!!! B

Loved the 'moderate republicans ' line. I would not want to wish this petty, misogynistic, lying, vengeful and mythical being was in charge of my life!
The sad part is Brian only listed a small part of all the craziness in the Bible. A fraction. By this standard I'll never be mature enough to buy into the scripture.
This is the New Apologetics/New Excusigistics. Christians are mature, logical, and right thinking. Atheists are immature, haven't thought things through, and emotional (especially feeding their glee at being so iconoclastic and their hatred of god, yada, yada, yada). The Old Apologetics/Old Excusigistics just hadn't working in 2000 years and was losing its grip, so ...
You did it again. Is there no end to you’re greatness!
Pfffft. He'd "love to be a Christian"? What the hell for? I guess he'd also "love" to believe there are leprechauns…? Hell, I guess it seems "more plausible" to him that Thor uses his hammer whenever there's a lightning storm, since the proof is in his ears. If Dawkins and Hitch need to "grow up," I guess I've now reverted to being a toddler. How plausible does Christianity seem to Alex given the reality of this world, as Sam Harris exposes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSdGr4K4qLg
Bri-bri: There is more and more interesting articles and lectures about atheists and atheism in the past ,including the distant past. It would make for some interesting posts and also provide a counter to the idea that atheism is all "new." In that regard, one of my favorite discoveries was a summary of a paper by a British cultural anthropologist who lived with a tribe in a remote area of tropical African in the mid 20th century. He reported on the tribe's witch doctors who treated people for demon possession etc. but noted that there was a group of men in the tribe who laughed at them behind their backs and thought it was all bullshit used by the witch doctors to gain food, power and prestige.
I can, sort of, imagine Alex becoming a tissue-thin deist - but Christianity based on that weird compilation of tall tales, the bible?!? Are Zeus, Zoroaster and Zalmoxis becoming more plausible for him as well ? If not, how does he differentiate them and their religions from Christianity? Has he explained his shift in opinion?
He tried to in his next video. The video I'll post tomorrow is a response to that new video. Stay tubed!
Is it more plausible now than 10 years ago that allowing in innocent party to bear the punishment for your crimes is a moral position?
Alex reminds me of the Tim Minchin bit, 'If you open your mind too much, your brain will fall out.'
Can we talk about how much the Artist Formerly Known as McCauly Culkin sounds like Marge Simpson in that clip?
Fun Macaulay Culkin fact for you; A few years ago he decided to change his middle name for some reason that now escapes me. He polled his followers on some web site, that also escapes me. ( Hot tip-don't hire me as any kind of corrective services officer, bounty hunter or ICE fascist I'm very easy to escape from, but I digress...) So his fans/followers/disciples/subscribers/well-wishers voted that Macaulay Culkin's middle name should be 'Macaulay Culkin'. And he went with just that. His full name is now 'Macaulay Macaulay-Culkin Culkin'. As a professional Culkin he's often asked by the public if he is in fact Macaulay Culkin. He enjoys being able to tell people that " 'Macaulay Culkin' is my middle name!"
Alex 's viewpoint has become troublesome.... perhaps a visit to the Deconstruction Zone and a conversation with Justin will tighten him up...
Or as I point to in my coming video on this topic, Kip Davis, Megan Lewis, Paulogia, Francesca Stavrakopoulou, Joshua Bowen, Bart Ehrman, Dan McClellan, etc...
