Meet Henry & Joan Carter

Hey folks,

I thought I'd do something a little different for this update and introduce you properly to two people who are going to be very important to Shaddolands – Memories.

Meet Henry and Joan Carter — Marilyn's parents.

Henry is 52, a retired Major in the British Army. He's the steadier of the two: disciplined, dependable and perhaps a little more traditional in his outlook. He's a man shaped by a very different life from the one his daughter will eventually choose for herself.

Beside him is Joan, 45, an entrepreneur and rather more of a free spirit. She's confident, independent and has a touch of mischief about her. If you've been wondering where some of Mal's more rebellious qualities came from... well, you may not have to look too far. 😂

They're quite different people, but that's precisely what makes them interesting as Mal's parents.

You'll be seeing a fair bit of Joan throughout Memories. Her relationship with Marilyn plays an important part in the young woman's development, and you'll begin to see how some of Mal's attitudes towards life, love and independence were shaped long before the events of Shaddolands.

Henry?

Well... you won't be seeing quite as much of him.

Not because he isn't important. Quite the opposite.

It's simply not his time yet. 😉

Both Henry and Joan have played their part in making Marilyn the person she is. Some of those influences will be obvious. Others perhaps won't become apparent until much later in TSU – The Shaddolands Universe.

And that's probably quite enough from me before I start giving things away!

For now, I'll leave you with Henry and Joan Carter — Mum and Dad to the young Marilyn, and two more pieces of the puzzle behind the woman who will eventually become Mal Delaney.
