As a Canadian, I already hated Jim Pattison... But now I hate him even more. This was so heartbreaking.
Sometimes I jump out of bed thinking I forgot to get them ready for school I'm a grown man I promise you but that right there broke my heart man
Good old Republican Congressmen — always voting against safety regulations because it might cost greedy corporations some money! 🙄
I rode the duck boats many times as a kid and loved them. I had plans for our own future kids to ride them too. Thanks to the activism of the victims and their families in this case, we won’t be doing that now and I’ll advise others I know to avoid them as well. So they are making a difference. The boats should be banned outright but barring that, I hope they know that they are teaching people and enabling folks to make safer choices.
Maybe it's just me, but if my entire family had just died and someone hugged me and said "God has a purpose for you" I'd have bitten off their ear.
Tia is an inspiration for life. Such bravery and constant trudging she must do to continue her life. Respect.
Thanks, ACC. It was tough, but I legitimately learned from this.
How awfully sad for the families. So many safety precautions overlooked, just awful. Another beautifully written, tragic episode acc.
Ahh this happened in my city (Liverpool, UK) luckily no one died.
This was tuff listen. Definitely been on one of these with the wife and kid. No life vests, totally oblivious to potential danger.
Appreciate the episode. Great narration as usual. Will we ever value life over profit?
Oh man, I rode a duck boat in Philly on a field trip back in the day and had a blast. Terrifying to know what a legitimate death trap that was 😬 Also so refreshing to hear a story about a local lawyer succeeding, even slightly. I hear Mongeluzzi's commercials all the time and was shocked to hear him brought up! Good to know we have some real ones here.
Every time I hear them refer to the “duck boats” in the news it sounds like “death boats” to me
I was in Branson, vacationing, the week before this happened. Some of my family wanted to do the duck tour but we ultimately decided against it. Crazy how it could’ve been us.
A concerned citizen the goat 🙏
Aptly named episode. Geezus.
Horrifying
Goodness. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this, particularly Tia Coleman. 😥
I like how they keep calling it an “amphibious boat”
Oh damn! An episode local to me. I rode the ducks once upon a time. I can't wait to listen to this at work tomorrow.
Almost same! My family was planning to go in hot springs around that time but didn’t. I was 5/6. Grandma loved retelling cuz it was her “escape from death” story Also lol the reason we didn’t go, my parents got divorced 🤣 And we were never in any danger. It’s just how dramatic southern grandmothers tell stories
Love swindled and thank you for bringing this local to myself and communities tragedy to life it should have never happened. It’s a backwards system in this state as always… I rest my case.
The dismantling of regulatory agencies by the current administration is certainly not going to reduce atrocities like this one. If I didn't love Scotland so much, I would ask them to keep custody of that orange tourist 😡
Incredible episode. Had me in tears by the end. Thank you as always for your service.
What the duck man?! I love this podcast to escape that sadness... ouch
Great work as always. I'm fucking sick and the people that profit from this need to be. Istg
Listening from st louis, mo, after the bullshittery of the tornado (and the fiasco over the alarm system. Much ❤️ to whoever has chatted w me about this in the DMs) This duck boat incident happened in Boston too, where my fam is from. Its got to stop. I hope you guys make one over the tornado someday
I appreciate the excellent work you put into Swindled. Such a great podcast.
A barge ran over a disabled Duck Boat 15 years ago in Philadelphia. It's unbelievable that there were just 2 fatalities. Video of the Delware. https://www.reddit.com/r/CatastrophicFailure/s/nd2QVGOhZR
Someone should talk about that in a podcast!
