cry mod v.2
this mod adds:
a “cry” interaction to the sim’s main menu and the shower, with a custom animation.
reactions from nearby sims to a crying sim.
comfort interactions after crying.
requires the xml injector
base game compatibleupd. march 20, 2026: tuning adjustments & fixes
upd. nov. 20, 2025: sims will only cry autonomously when they are at home and their needs are not low.
upd. oct. 31, 2025: action also added to wall showers.
during crying, the sim gets the following moodlet:
here are two animation styles based on the sim's gender. you can switch between them using my other mod!
after the action ends, the sim will randomly receive either a sad or a happy buff.
sims with the gloomy trait are more likely to get the sad buff.
sims with the cheerful trait are more likely to get the happy one.
if there are nearby sims who have a friendly relationship with the crying sim, they will react with a random sad in-game animation and receive the following buff:
after the crying ends, the sim can ask any sim for comfort.
a sim who witnesses the crying can also comfort them.
a fitting in-game animation will play.
after this interaction, both sims will lose the sad moodlets from my mod and get new happy ones. there’s also a chance of gaining a close sentiment.
this version also adds the option to cry in the shower.
differences from the regular action:
it’s only available when the sim feels negative emotions: sadness, stress, embarrassment, fear, or discomfort.
hygiene increases during the action.
other outcomes:
duration of negative emotion buffs decreases.
for teens, emotional control skill increases (gp “parenthood”).
if the sim is in grief, positive coping increases (ep “life and death”).
autonomy:
if a sim has sad buffs, they can cry autonomously between 7 pm and 4 am.
also, they need to be at home and their needs should not be low.

Hiii simkatu. I love ur work and just thought id make u aware (and other simmers) that this seems to conflict with something and it crashed my game upon loading to a venue. This was the error report in the last expection mcc report : - Bug Report Summary Game Version: 1.121.372.1020 (Post-EP18 Businesses & Hobbies) Error Type: AttributeError Location: build_buy.py / c_api_buildbuy_venue_type_changed Technical Details: Exception in , AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'on_sub_venue_finished_loading' Context: The error triggers specifically when a Sim (in this case, on a Lounge venue) has the simkatu:cry_mod_xml_buff_addaffordance buff active. It appears the mod is attempting to inject interactions or affordances into the venue before the new "sub-venue" logic (introduced/updated in the recent 1.121/EP18 patch) has fully initialized, resulting in a NoneType call.

it might be a bit too difficult for me, but i hope to try it someday!
I just wanted to let you know: I tried running my game with nothing but XML 4.2 and all the mods I had (two aesthetic mods and all animation overrides). I tested them all separately, and not once would the game open. The message "Error on our end caused the launch to fail, please try again a little later." came up after every single test. I will update this if I find a fix organically.
sorry for the late reply, and thank you for the detailed info! on my side, the game works fine with all of my mods and xml injector, both on the latest update and on older versions. i’m sorry you ran into this issue( i’d suggest trying to repair the game or reinstall it. it’s also possible that the save file is corrupted and starting a new save might help
