click on a bed to see the interaction that lets your sim pick a book from their inventory and read it in bed.

single bed
child to elder
on a single bed, sims (teen to elder) will see two options:
1. read in bed (with covers)
2. read in bed (without covers)
child sims will only get the "read in bed (with covers)" interaction.
double bed
teen to elder
on a double bed, sims will see one interaction: "read in bed"
the animation depends on which side of the bed you click:
left side → with covers
right side → without covers
i added a tooltip in-game to make it easier.
the pose for "read in bed (with covers)" is the same for all sims.
the pose for "read in bed (without covers)" is different for masculine and feminine frames.
benefits:
increases fun need.
skill books will boost the related skill. any level book can be read in bed and still grant skill gain.
if your sim has a "finish a book" want or aspiration goal, this interaction will fulfill it.
children gain creativity when reading fiction books. when reading skill books, they build mental skill. and if the book teaches a skill children can learn, that skill will increase too.
a moodlet will appear while reading in bed:
sims enrolled in university can also read textbooks in bed, they'll get a notification confirming their academic progress is improving:

Thank you for this mod ! I've been dreaming about this for a long time. Reading in bed is a basic feature, and it was possible in The Sims 2 and 3... I'm having a bug : my Sim's legs are getting stuck in the bed. (On a single bed, the comforter doesn't cover your legs.) And do you think it'll be possible for him to turn the pages ? Like with Thepancakes1's “Reading in Bed” mod ? That would be the perfect mod (The Sims 4's default reading animation) (
could you please check my troubleshooting guide first? https://sites.google.com/view/simkatu/if-the-mod-doesnt-work there is a step about finding mod conflicts, and the issue you mentioned may be caused by a conflict. as for page-turning animations, i’m not planning to add them right now. maybe someone in the community will make a more advanced version someday, but for now this is the version i’m able to make and support

Hi, I don't know if it's an issue with your mod or a new game bug since the update but my sim is reading on the bed and is gaining/improving every skill in the game at once! Even learning new ones! From one book?!
yes, unfortunately this bug exists and it’s mentioned in the post. you need to let the sim finish reading before saving or entering CAS. otherwise, when you load the game again, they may level up every skill at once, which causes a bunch of notifications.. sadly, there was no other way to make reading in bed work(
Heyyy 🧡 I LOOOOOOVE your animations sooooo much and haven’t had any problems so far. But with the override, my “reading with cover” animation doesn’t have a blanket. I only see my legs – but only when I select that option. And my toddler in the base game also has no blanket when being tucked in. The blanket only suddenly spawns once they’re asleep. Hope you can help :( But other than that, I’m obsessed with your animations, honestly. They change the gameplay experience sooo much, and your latest update with the improved eating behavior is just amazing!!! 🧡🧡🧡

I tried this mod and it only had one journal for the book selection is 'read in bed' menu, even though I had several books in my sim's inventory..
could you please tell me which books didn’t show up for selection? maybe it’s a skill book or a base game fiction book? it would also be great if you could try the same books with another sim or another household and see if the interaction changes. because it might be a one-time bug in the game itself(

i downloaded a few of your mods and now it won't let me put my sims into a lot at all. i deleted the mods and it still won't work! my game worked perfectly fine before - anyone else who has experienced this how do i fix it?
did you use the new "pack selection" feature? the thing is, the xml Injector mod (which is required for custom interactions) isn’t compatible with this feature and can cause errors
so i downloaded some of your mods and everytime i make a new household and put them in like a lot it keeps sending me back to the worlds screen everytime i try to play
this kept happening to me too, i couldnt tell which mods were causing it

Super beautiful mod! Just wanted to know, is the "Feeling Studious from Studying" moodlet suppose to happen with all books? My Sims were reading the a romance and a mystery book, not a study or skill book and got the moodlet.

Yes!!! Xml injector allows mods to work properly, you won't be able to have the override work without it

I would like to suggest something ! I would just like the simplest animation possible, as in sims 2 and 3. He relaxes on the bed and takes out his book, lying outside the duvet. Is it perhaps difficult to do ? I would also like him to sometimes be able to turn the pages while reading ?
thank you so much for the kind words! you're right — my animation doesn't feel as lively as in sims 2 or 3, unfortunately. i totally agree that little details like turning pages make a big difference, but with my current animation skills, it's quite a challenging task. adding something like that would probably double or triple the time needed to make the mod. that’s why i tried to focus on the bare minimum this time. still, i really hope that as i gain more experience, i'll be able to revisit and improve my older mods over time.

thank you for the kind words! unfortunately, the way the mod works with sides of the double bed wasn’t my choice but more of a forced solution, since the game didn’t let me do it differently. i’m not sure if i’ll ever be able to fix it and make the animation play from both sides or add a choice, right now it doesn’t seem possible(

I think there's an error in the book list where the Vampire lore skill book doesn't show up, but all the other skill books work. The animations are really cute though, thanks as always for making the mod! love you!!

Hi Simtaku, thank you so much for this mod, I've been wanting something like this for so long! It works great but I do have an odd issue when playing with automatic preference mod. My sim acquired so many preferences in a very short time while reading on bed. I also have a lot of other mods so idk for sure what happened. Appreciate any help and I will try to provide logs and stuff if you need it. If it's not something you can do on your side it's totally ok! hi! thank you so much for letting me know. unfortunately, it looks like my mod isn’t compatible with lothario’s mod. usually, when a skill is learned, the interaction code includes just that one skill, and i believe that’s how the auto preference system detects it. but in my case, reading in bed is a single interaction that includes many skills in the code. skill gain only happens if the sim reads a book with a specific tag, but technically, all those skills are still listed. sadly, that’s the only way i could make skill gain work for this mod :( i hope that explanation makes sense. i’m really sorry the mods aren’t compatible!

Hi ! I have the “read in bed” option when I click on the community lot doors ! EDIT: It also appears on certain objects, here in a gym on racks with dumbbells on them.
