Vinland Saga S01E23 - Miscalculation

I just love hearing the name "Askeladd", as it's deeply embedded in my country's culture. In Norway, Espen Askeladden is an old folklore hero who's always underestimated despite his incredible cleverness, which is a very clear parallel to his VS counterpart. His stories also follow the traditional folklore pattern where he "wins" the princess in the end, which you could say Askeladd's story also does, with him becoming a trusted advisor to Canute, who's often seen as more of a princess by many. I have no idea if this is something Yukimura intended, but I still think it's funny that Askeladd's story bears so much likeness to that of the real Askeladd.
This is so cool
Don't worry about the fight against floki it is the LEAST important thing that happens that episode
What makes Askeladd and Thorfinn’s dynamic so fascinating is that you know exactly what could bring Thorfinn catharsis, but with Askeladd, you’re constantly invested in figuring out his next move, who he’ll betray, manipulate, or move around like pieces on a chessboard. And the most tragic part is how deeply their lives become intertwined, even when neither of them can truly understand what the other means to them.
I really enjoyed ur breakdown don’t apologize or worry about it at all it’s what I like watching ur reactions for 🙏🏾
We’re going to need a full review of the season on TikTok after you’ve watched the next episode. And I think you’re going to like season 2 even more
Hey, I really enjoy your reactions and I'm looking forward to the finale and season 2 of Vinland Saga. I highly recommend watching/reacting to "Orb: On the Movements of the Earth". I don't want to spoil too much about it but I think you would appreciate the narrative choices that the anime makes.
Absolutely this
If possible, after you're done with the season, I'd love to see your reactions to the openings and endings. Just as a bonus
I LOVED your analysis as a choreographer on this. Please don't worry about pausing/rewatching, it was so interesting to get this perspective and I fell in love with the scene again Edit: Yes, there is so much anime that does this, though it is not necessarily the norm in mainstream work.
I’m so hyped for the finale!
Pleeaaasssee upload the finale later today
Fck that thumbnail honestly. It did this to me also btw the same thumbnail. I will just say dont put much thought into it its not implying to things as you might think
I like how askeladd is dressed in Roman robes in this episode. The artorious myth originates from the Celtic peoples, which a lot of the descendants of Wales originate from. So askeladds mom when she dreams of Avalon isn’t wales itself it’s this place off to the west. I think the author does this on purpose, to parallel Vinland and what that means to thorfinn, with the myth of Avalon and what that means to askeladd.
