Vinland = North America idk if anyone has said it in past episodes. Leif Erickson the guy with the mustache was the first person irl to reach North America but had to leave because he couldn’t build a permanent settlement due to reasons

9:55 idk if you’re thinking of it being shown in a bigger way, but we’ve seen Thorfinn actively defend Askeladd in battle already in the last episode. Though I think you were a bit distracted by a word sounding like the n-word in the dialogue😭😭
I've seen the Netflix dub, and if I remember rightly, they do all speak English, yes! I think it's kinda cool they leave in the idea of a language barrier, even though to our ears they're all speaking the same language; it makes it feel more real somehow?? It's not glossing over the cultural fragmentation of Europe at the time, and how nobody's seeing eye-to-eye and there's a lack of unification. That's really important to this story.
Agree, I really liked this aspect! Although I also love in anime like The Great Pretender where they actually switch languages and you get the main characters speaking in English, French etc.
I think you mentioned it a while back but that feeling in Succession's S2 finale when we focus on Logan, not able to figure out exactly what's going on in his mind (the ghost of smile? Rage? Something else?). That's how I feel about Askeladd. What's going on in there? The author of Vinland Saga has talked about how Askeladd began to "write himself" as a character, so this mystery around his interior world totally makes sense.

Don't know if you're aware of this, but the studio that animated Vinland Saga s1 is the same as the ones who did AOT S1-3, and the animation studio behind AOT S4 also did Vinland Saga S2.
Here's a structural difference between the manga and anime. This episode is actually chapter 1 of the manga. Everything we've seen thus far is told in a long flashback a bit later on. Probably why the king feels over the top for you (and out of place for many others), I think the author was still figuring out the tone and where he wanted to take the story.
