It's stated in the rules of Death Note (the scenes they show in the middle of the episodes) someting along the lines of "the shinigami the Death Note belonged to before must follow the human who discovered it". So if i remember correctly, Ryuk is unable to leave Light's side. It also doesn't hurt that he's enjoying himself too much when he's with Light, watching the game of "cat & mouse" unfold

Yeah there's a timeskip that goes mostly unmentioned in the anime. The manga shows it better. The exam takes place Jan 17, 2004 and the ceremony happens on April 5 2004. So about a 2.5 month timeskip. Anime takes place in 2007 but the skip should be roughly the same. On a sidenote, To-Oh Uni is clearly meant to be the irl University of Tokyo. The most prestigious/elite uni there. Showing how smart both Light and L are in also basic academics to get a freshmen speech role there
It's unbelievable to me that some people think light was in the right this whole show 😭
Yeah I think people are just blinded by both the fact that we’re following his story instead of the “hero” as well as his initial motive being one that was from a purer heart and leaning towards justice. I’ve also noticed a lot of the Light sympathizers tend to be massive misanthropists, but don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have an evil Light Yagami as it creates an interesting story so much so that I’d be “rooting” for him in certain instances just so he’s not caught and I get to see a better chess game you know? It’s undeniable that Light has incredible moments of intellect which I think anyone should be able to appreciate regardless of morals.
Enjoy the show now this where the fun begins, also you can start to watch the opening starting from episode 12 so you wont be spoiled all the characters since its really a great opening
The reason ryuk seems to be helping ligjt like not eating apples in public is because he wants to be entertained and so he has an interest in not giving light away and doing things that may benefit him so he be entertained for longer
yeah, his whole “I won’t help” claim is more of a “I won’t do anything in favor of either of you that ends this game too quickly”, also finding the cameras wasn’t even him helping that much anyway
