I absolutely get it. My cat growing up, Patches, lived to be 18. When I was 24, she was old, stiff, deaf, and left in my care for the weekend. That weekend, she actually seemed to recover a bit of her old vigor and seemed almost her old self when mom got home on Sunday night. The next day, she was back to being old and tired, and mom spent the day with her before deciding she just couldn't put the cat through any more, so she called our vet to make the appointment for the next afternoon. Patches went quietly and peacefully, curled up and snoozing on the passenger seat of the car on the way to the vet. They know. And they do wait for you to come home, if they can. Take all the time you need, and hold those memories close. We'll be here for you. Just like they always are.

I understand better than you might think. I have always loved cats myself and after leaving the Marines then a bad marriage went back to my childhood home to stay for a while where I reconnected with my childhood friend for about 6 months before she passed away on the driveway behind my car where she would wait for me to leave for work. She was about 20 years old when she passed and for about a month afterwards I had some real problems emotionally. I didn't realize that at the time I was having problems with PTSD which made things even worse all I knew was I had lost my oldest and best friend at the time. Today I have another feline baby who is diabetic and will be 17 years old this October who I had just given his morning Insulin shot and fed breakfast. When he goes it is going to be hard on me as well and I will be left with my little girl who is going to be 10 in June. Don't ever let anyone say anything about how you feel towards this event in your life just be glad you have your other babies with you still. Most people don't understand and think of them as pets or animals but people like us understand they are family and our closest friends who always love us unconditionally and never judge us. We develop relationships of love and trust with them that stay with us our entire lives and I still sometimes think about my first friend who used to take a nap laying across my shoulders while I did homework in elementary school much to my parents confusion and dismay.

Losing a family member, even a beloved pet, hurts deeply, and it’s not easy to heal from that kind of loss. But with time, you will. Sending you lots of positive energy and a virtual hug to you and your whole family. Rest in peace, little friend ❤️

Losing a pet sucks. I've been a doggy daddy my entire adult life. I've had to say goodbye to 2 dogs. My first dog lived 16 years, he was basically my kid. My second I only had for a short time and he had alot of health issues and I had to put him down. I have 3 now and one is getting old and I'm worried his time is coming to an end. One of my young ones has lyme nephritis and it will ultimately cause a early end and I hate knowing he can go at any time even though hes young and looks healthy. Adopt from your local shelters folks. Save lives!

thank you all so much. i took today as a “remote day” because i can’t go out in public without breaking into tears 😭 it’s an honor to love something and im thankful to have known him for so long. glad i am able to have my own two furry friends in my adult life to give good lives. thank you all for your love and support.

Condolences on your loss. Just speaking for myself but please take whatever time you need to take care of yourself and to grieve without feeling like you need to rush back here to produce content. The loss of a beloved pet is no different than losing a family member and prioritizing that should come first.
