You never need to defend what you like :) I really enjoyed Love and Thunder.
Loved the intro and outro, you do have a lot to catch up on. Gladiator and Dark Knight for sure, the Bourne Trilogy. Excited for you to see all those. 😊 This Thor movie doesn’t link much to the MCU but the God Butcher is a big deal in the comics. Great reactions, enjoyed rewatching this. 🤪
People don't like Thor Love and Thunder because it is a loud, uneven, and tonally confused sequel that repeats Ragnarok’s comedic formula without its freshness or restraint. The plot relies on contrived rules, convenient MacGuffins, and powers that create obvious questions about why they were not used in earlier Marvel conflicts. Taika Waititi’s humor repeatedly undercuts scenes involving grief, mortality, loss, and sacrifice, preventing Gorr’s tragedy and Jane Foster’s cancer from carrying the emotional weight they deserve. Its visual style is viewed as excessively bright, artificial, and over designed, more distracting than imaginative. Chris Hemsworth remains likable and committed, but Thor is reduced too often to a self-parodying buffoon. Christian Bale stands out as Gorr, delivering a focused, sympathetic, dramatically grounded performance that feels mismatched with the rest of the film. Jane Foster’s arc is treated as a short-term “passing the torch” story, but her transformation into the Mighty Thor is criticized as unconvincing and insufficiently earned. Valkyrie is underused, while Korg is overused, suggesting the film gives disproportionate attention to Waititi’s own comic-relief character. Ultimately, the film is portrayed as a franchise running on inertia: recycling a once-successful tone and formula while leaving Thor and the larger Marvel story largely where it began.
Hey Eralia just watched this with you. I knew you were going to cry. I forgot about the last credit ending and glad Jane Foster was welcomed to Val Hala. She will meet Thor's mom and dad. I hope you consider watching the old Netflix Daredevil. I noticed reading of a fellow Patreon praying that you would watch Daredevil. Just had to put that in there. Well, I like Thor Love and Thunder. This movie gets a lot of hate. Christian Bale was the only good thing about this movie??? Give me a break. There is another Thor out there and his name is Beta Ray Bill!!! I hope you read this Eralia and look up Beta Ray Bill. They had a statue of him in Thor Ragnarok. You have to look carefully.
Thor is one of the GOATS, the goats: "Aaaah!" Jane: "It's only stage 4 cancer", Deadpool laughs in stage 5 I'm guessing a lot of people didn't like the corny / cringy bit like the jealousy of stormbreaker etc. The goats get quite annoying fast. Still a fun movie though
Please stay on Marvel release schedule. I see that you'll get to certain shows/movies when you get to them. If you go out of order you'll be lost.
SideNotes: Laughed for 2 min at the Loki-Aligator plushy [cause I remember your reaction to seeing that character], also loved that you included the Cast-List RabbitHole excursion [pulling on many threads]. Suggestion: grab the cast list, your intent, and drop into your AI of choice. it'll save you a lot time.
The biggest issue people had with this movie is from the whiplash of the character. You go from pre-Ragnarok Thor which had a different tone, then you got Ragnarok which balanced the comedy and drama well. And then you had Infinity War and Endgame which showed a far more serious Thor fitting for the movies, which alot of people really liked seeing. Then you pivot to this movie. The problem really stems from the fact that there was no plan. They improvised alot of the lines for this movie, and Chris Hemsworth went on record saying they had TOO much fun making this movie becasue they were just doing whatever. People just wanted consistency with the character the same way Iron Man and Cap got treated is all. This was made during the period where Marvel kind of just said to yes to everything lol
Just for fun, when you get to Deadpool, [Chronologically speaking] Watch You on YouTube watching Deadpool maybe?
I can't get into my .edu acct, can we just email you our papers directly, Professor Eralia??
Hey E! As I watch this from the future with you relatively on my left thanks to the infinite glory of (All)Father Loki, firstly I hope that you're doing well while going through a bit of a Thor arc as well. 🙏😔🫂🤓😅 Firstly, just wanted to say that I love that LokiGator of yours! It's so damn adorable looking lol. Already makes up for this being the first Thor entry with no appearance from his mischievous brother. 😅😅 I know that people say you should finally do Loki S2 but it's smart IMHO to hold until Ant-Man 3 first with that preceding it and with that said, I would recommend doing the Guardians holiday special first before you get to Volume 3 cause that actually precedes that as well. 🤓😅😅 I'm sure things feel tough right now and you've lost even a glimmer of love and/or hope but just know that you are not alone and one day (hopefully soon), the sun will shine on us All again! 🙏😉
Bring me Thanos! Oh wait, I mean... Days of Future Past!
First and foremost, if you enjoy this movie, more power to you. It isn't one that I enjoyed, personally, but I'm the last person to say that someone should or shouldn't enjoy something based on my opinion. The challenge with Thor: Love and Thunder for me is that the comedy gave me a lot of tonal whiplash, and a number of the jokes... rather overstayed their welcome for my taste. Add to that the fact that the script was only half finished by the time they started filming, and the director, Taika Waititi (who also directed Ragnarok and played Korg), made some jokes at the expense of the special effects animators (who were having to work very hard to make the movie presentable), and made the filming process so hard for the actors involved that it caused quite a lot of bad blood. After the movie came out, Hemsworth even made comments about how he "would never work with another mad genius director again," and didn't even want to return to the character of Thor, except to give him a true finale. One funny thing to realize is that this is the second time that Matt Damon has played "Loki." His character in the Kevin Smith movie Dogma was also Loki XD
Great video.
It wasn't my worst mcu experience, but when I walked out of the theater I said "Taika should lay off the coke." Que interview with him saying something like "i'll destroy your canon in a heartbeat baby" Coke or not, too much of himself. Sparknotes dissertation did my nerd heart proud. :) reminded me of ThugNotes, a little. Love the Hemsworth impression! lol Looking forward to you comparing Peter Quill and Danny Rand when you get to Iron Fist eventually. People tend to freeze at the age of their trauma. Guardians Xmas special before GotG 3. It's short and sweet. Bonus points to watch Footloose first :) Nick "Furry" in Thor's phone lol i forgot that bit Gladiator is a must see eventually, hell yeah! soundtrack alone is worth it. Christian Bale is great. Russell Crowe is great. Good Will Hunting is good autumn movie with Matt Damon. it's so good it launched 2 careers OMG YOU HAVE SEEN LUCIFER?!?!?!?!?! it's one of my most favorite favorites, I *love* character growth! Lieutenant Diablo! Dr Linda's book! Maze's everything! Revenge on Dan! SillyFun "low expectations" movies: Venom 2 & 3 Van Helsing Kung Fu Hustle Balls of Fury Airplane 1 & 2 Anchorman 1 & 2 So I Married an Axe Murderer Encino Man
GotG 3 will bring Peter back into the fold. But make sure you have plenty of tissues.
I just recently watched your pirates of the Caribbean reaction! One of my favorite series of all time. You should watch the other movies also!
Yeah, this one is definitely an odd movie. It deals with some really dark themes while also leaning heavily into the classic Thor comedy, so there are some pretty wild swings between genuinely sad moments and completely silly comedic relief. It gets pretty mixed reviews online, but I really enjoy this one. Marvel generally does villains quite well, but Gorr feels especially relatable. At the end of the day, he's just a dad who lost his daughter and discovered that the gods he devoted his life to didn't care. As a girl dad, this movie definitely hits a little differently. I need to catch up on your Winter Soldier watch-through myself - I've been a bit busy lately - but as always, I'm looking forward to seeing what's next!
This is the most Thor movie of them all, and that's also probably why so many don't like it - because they just don't like 'Thor' movies. As you saw, this film is so well written and wrapped up, but the humor and goofiness is not what a lot of people want in their Marvel movies. Their loss. In totality this story is probably better than anything else so far. Without the humor, it would probably be too dark for too many to stick with long enough to find the beauty that comes out of it by the end. For all things there is a season, and a time for every theme in the MCU
As a lifelong comic reader I appreciated how many comic accurate bits they managed to pepper into this movie. That version of Eternity looks like it was lifted directly from the pages. And, just like in the comics, Eternity gave birth to Love after it was missing from the universe for eons. Eternity and Love are called Abstracts. They’re far above gods in their power scaling but they CAN be killed. If I recall correctly Love was missing from the universe for a very long long time because it had been killed
@ 21:02 you got a cameo from Darryl. Darryl (Daley Pearson) the tour guide. Taika Waititi did a mockumentary-style Team Thor short films aligning with "civil war" search for team thor / team darryl on youtube.
This movie is so much fun and I hate that it's so underappreciated. I'm glad you seemed to enjoy it and thanks for another great react!
You NEED to see Matt Damon in Dogma!
Snoochie Boochies
Matt Damon is Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity (spy thriller) Its worth the watch!
Great reaction! I hope they bring.Jane/The Mighty Thor back. Taika Waititi directed this and Thor Ragnarok, he's very funny. He is also the voice actor for Korg. He makes some good movies outside of Marvel. He's very unique in his comedy and movies/shows he is involved in
Thor four, The mighty Thor vs. Thor vs. Gorr stay tuned for more
"Welcome to The MCU, You're joining at a bit of a low point" "Can we just be done? With the whole multiverse thing? It's not great. It's just been miss after miss after miss"
huh
I will never underestand the hate againts this movie. Also you definitely have to check Gladiator with Russell Crowe, that movie is a must.
Gladiator is one of my all time favorites. its the only movie i chose to watch piece by piece on my first watch because i didnt want it to end!
Gladiator is one of my all time favourite movies ever. REALLY recommend watching it. So so good
The best part of the "kid battle" is imagining how much freakin' fun those kids must have had filming that scene.
Ugh... my interwebs is down! 😔 on my only day off too 🤬🤬🤬😭😇
I unapologetically like this movie. I don't think any of the MCU* movies are staright-up BAD like [insert countless other movies I could name], they just don't all live up to the same standard, so relatively speaking it feels less... epic/worth/whatever when held up against some of the more iconic entries. (* - Though there are a couple "bad" non-MCU Marvel movies out there. You've avoided them thus far.)
As for why some people didn't care for this movie, some apparently felt it was all over the place tonally, going from genuinely horrifying nightmare fuel, to the silliness of talking dumpling gods, screaming goats, and jealous weaponry. And while Thor: Ragnarok struck that balance expertly, here it is often jarring, like Christian Bale was in his own separate movie from most of the cast. I like it in spite of its flaws. It's still better than a lot of DCU fare, so...
You are very quiet in this video. Other than that what a great watch!
When you're doing a movie that deals with such hard hitting subjects as this one in the MCU, you do have to include quite a bit of comedy, yeah. Early MCU really shied away from more serious matters of a personal nature, they were all more grandiose popcorn flicks (with a few stabs at more serious subject matter - like Quill's mother - but mostly keeping them on the sidelines or as character backstory; even Tony's PTSD after the original battle of New York was way nerfed from the original concept, because the studios didn't want the movies to turn into depresso-fests), but cancer and loss of faith as the main threads of the story arc is new. It's hard treading the line between digging a story out of the depths of pure depression and just being silly and every person does it differently, so you'll have a lot of people disagreeing with the direction the makers of the movie will have taken. Taika Waititi is notoriously a very silly goose, so I'm not surprised how this movie turned out and I did enjoy it quite a lot, but I can totally see how many wouldn't have. Can't wait to continue this journey and I hope you catch up in time to get to see Doomsday in cinemas. Sure we'll miss out on a first react here on the channel, but I feel like after this freakin' marathon you deserve the best experience for that one.
I hope she was wearing lots of makeup and stocked up on tissues at Costco for this one....
Love is played by Chris Hemworth daughter. Gladly you enjoyed this movie
Such a classic Thor adventure!
I really hope you enjoy this movie, but I absolutely did not like it 😭 it’s one of the few total misses for me in the MCU
This movie gets A LOT of hate, but it's just a silly movie with with a retro Guns N' Roses soundtrack. Christian Bale is my #1 favorite, so it's hard for me to talk bad about this movie. If we all accept Mark Ruffalo's corny ass lines in Avengers movies, we should be able to accept this movie for what it is.
That’s the thing Christian Bale was the only good thing about this movie and they only used them for like 10 whole minutes and all of his action was off screen, they really just turned Thor into a total joke. They turned Jane having cancer into a joke, but at the end of the day people like what they like a lot of people really enjoyed this movie my girlfriend loves it !
Gorr was the hidden Gem in this movie…. Update: Alligator Loki is awesome
What a great way to start my morning here in SoCal! I get to watch along Thor love and thunder and later today I’m adopting a dog. It’s good be a good day! Can’t wait for Guardians vol 3, thunderbolts, and HOPEFULLY U REACT TO X-Men 97’!!!! Wish Eralia and everyone in here wellness and cosmic blessings!✨📿
Name the dog Korg or Val...maybe Loki cause of Eralia's cat.
