The Chimera + Mad Mike's SummerBash

Starting off with a little behind the scenes. Nothing major just addressing some of the issues I had with the car. First thing was bonding the glitch carbon covers to the turbofans. I decided that I probably wont have time to remake them for a while and so for now I'll just rock with what I've got.

So I mixed up some epoxy adhesive and bonded them together.

The next problem I wanted to sort out was the rear fenders where I had cut for the bumper delete. With the bottom section missing, there wasn't anything stopping the flare from flapping around so I ordered some cheap eBay diffuser struts to mount underneath and lock everything in place and stop my tyre from ripping the flare off.

There were a few other things that I sorted out that I didn't really get photos of, but the last thing was addressing the peeling wrap on my windshield.

This wrap was just a real cheap crappy brand that I was using as an experiment and it's been on there for almost 4 years which is longer than I expected it to last. One of the worse spots was this one around the windshield that had huge ripples all down it and it kinda spoiled the look of the car.

So I peeled it all off and airbrushed the paintwork underneath to match how it looked before and no-one will ever notice.

All of this was just to get the car ready to get strapped onto a trailer and taken down to Hampton Downs racetrack.

Every year Mad Mike runs an event called SummerBash which is a combination of drifting, gymkhana, and show and shine. Last year I headed down there with the Mx5 and initially I was going to pass on it this year because the car's mid re-build, but the universe had other plans as Mad Mike reached out to personally invite me and cover my entry which is pretty insane.

I didn't really have any plans for SummerBash so I basically just showed up, parked my car and then disappeared into the crowds for the whole day. I didn't mention I was going because I didn't really know I was going to be able to make it till just before, but it was cool to give people a chance to see it in the flesh.

I took pretty much no photos of it while I was down there, but I did grab photos of some of the cars that interested me.

The highlight of the show was definitely the reveal of Mad Mike's new personal drift build he calls the 787d.

This thing was wild. The frame was designed by Kei Muira of Rocket Bunny / TRA and the engine is the worlds first 5 rotor built by the team at PPRE in NZ. Just an absolutely insane looking build and even though it doesn't meet the regulations for just about any series, Mad Mike can pretty much just make his own competitions now so he'll be using this for that.

It's always cool to be reminded of how great the car scene can be here with so many sick cars showing up.
