[PUBLIC EPISODE] The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One: ep019 “Kith and Kin"
History, almost everybody's got some. Very hard to get rid of. Keeps repeating itself. If you're lucky, and work hard, you can just maybe learn from it, but you're gonna need a team. A family. You're gonna need allies. And if you have any extra of those, lemme know...it's for a friend.

I feel compelled to share that today my 3 year old heard this episode playing in my car and announced, “mama, they said FART KNOCKER!” In utter delight
There's always that guy You know the one, you know him Tales better than Truth
I just adore the erratic horns for the spirit motif. Adore them.
I just started listening today, because Erika, Aabria, Brennan, and Lou are my favorite D20 people and oh this is everything I could have wanted it to be. The storytelling and the sound design are both so magical. Beautiful work. Also, it was warm enough for the first time in a while to do resin work, so I made my first attempt at dice while listening to this first episode. It felt fitting, although their design wasn't.
It’s obvious that Suvi is struggling between her loyalty to Citadel, look what happened in Port Talon side and her “pop off parents”, look what the Citadel did in Port Talon side. It’s telling that her original instinct is to defend the Citadel against Eursalon, but sad that her programming runs deeper than her trust for “her brother”.
Doing a big relisten to WWW, got a theory on the meta nature of the world and magic. In episode 1. The hedge mage at the tavern makes mention of Wizard's discovering the language of magic as "the secret behind the spirits power". I find the existence of the Lingua Arcana fascinating, that it's kind of like a combination between maths/physics in that it's a fundamental truth to the universe that is reverse engineered/discovered, but also it is literally a language that is wholly inefficient as a result, e.g. the note that appears in every spell being unnecessary as outlined by Soft in his journal. So... to me this suggests that the fact that that magic in its purest form is the ability to shape the world through words is an indication that the nature of the world of the setting is that it is quite literally a story within the canon.
Also the importance of names, titles and phrases. Name cloaks as a concept magically erasing all instances of someone's name in history. Might be reaching here but I think it's a fun theory.
This is absolutely my favourite citadel episode so far! Making Aabria roll to see if she worded her contingency well enough... brilliant
What was that word Erika used to describe other names for the Shadow man? Sounded almost like Appalachia but I feel like that’s not true.
appellations
LOREEE!
My autism senses are tingling but I feel like the butterflies that lead to a creature full of uncomfy truth is a Cthaeh reference. After the disappointment that is... well iykyk, I am here for the deep world building and lore of our fantastic gang!!
aabria is the godking of pvp
I hope they release some of the score, I cant wait to make myself sad with the click of a play button. So good
good god the angst
absolutely love the sonic representation of the spirit world, it feels ancient and primordial in such a tantalizing way. Also extremely ghibli (which is a very clear inspiration for the entire setting)
ALLY! YES VALENTINA
Truly need reading glasses to listen to this podcast
I'm obsessed with the soundscape ever since that 🔥side. A-hoo-hoo!
Hey, the YouTube episode is not available. Is it just late, or are there not going to be any more on youtube?
I've recently subscribed and I'm only on episode 3 but I'm so excited and happy to be able to listen to and support this kind of amazing storytelling. It's really special. Thank you all!
Did you listen to the Children's Adventurer? It's definitely worth it.
WOW kith and kin ROCKED ME.
28:08... very subtle, brennan
The parallels between the axiom of proliferation being false and Misfits and Magic's "everyone can do magic" secret are palpable
This show is so GOOD!!!! I can't wait for the fireside chat! I can't wait for the next episode! The imagry of this episode was *chefs kiss* felt like I was watching a movie
Huzzah! I watched Mice and Murder, which is awesome... But the horrific ending made me really miss WWW. I love how these characters WOULD save eachother and not let eachother get hurt.
I AM SO HYPE
What a way to usher in the new year! Thrilled to see where you take us in 2024, WBN team!!
Wow what a climactic ending! And now a clear direction for Eursulon. Excellent set ups for all the characters and wonderful consequences. Can’t wait to hear more. 💛
I hope Brennan is back from the Panama jungles for the talkback because I NEED ANSWERS
No kidding. I'm worried.
I almost exclusively listen to D20 in my car. There's a moment in this episode where you can hear something pass from one side of the soundstage to another and It was really fun. I rewound and listened to it again like 8 times
We're going to roleplay T R A U M A
Happy New Year to us! So much info-dump this episode 🤩 I’m definitely going to have to re-listen when my brain isn’t fried. Also love the score for the spirits in there. So haunting and mournful. Reminded me of Sorrow from the Chrono Cross soundtrack.
I don’t think I’ve ever immediately re-listened to any WBN episode as many times as I have this one, truly obsessed !
Wow— what a friggin episode. Truly on pins and needles at the end of it. Didn’t even realize I had been holding my breath until Suvi rolled that 8
How is Suvi going to handle Eursulons NEW quest for Kaliya?? I mean we've all been feeling the sibling love for them the last few episodes, but now.. it's just, AHH! My heart squeezed for Suvi doing those last 15min 😩💔
I know the citadel is HUGE but is it like NYC big or like the state of Connecticut big or even bigger?
The exact dimensions were given in the middle of ep16, when the gang was flying down to Haverward! -t
I love the butterflies so much! The worldbuilding of WWW is so good.
Holey moley.
I feel like it’s 1969 and I am at the Fillmore East watching the band of Gypsies but it’s in D&D podcast forum
Oh My God #1 I’m going to just start making a lexicon at this point. #2 Brennan replying as the Fox with his mouth ACTUALLY FULL OF FOOD is something that just is so perfect and so Fox and so Brennan all at the same time. What a stroke of genius.
Am I crazy, or was Brennan’s voice pitched down a bit when he was voicing Pomoroy?
When I tell you my mouth dropped open at the Badger reveal! Also - Obelfind’s voice, with the underlying scraping of metal is just *chef’s kiss* and also so terrifying
Curious if that witch bolt spell is still floating ready to go? Wouldn’t the energy released have to go somewhere?
The sound design and editing in this episode is next level!!🥳😭👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Just gotta stop and thank Taylor for the f*cking helicopter (gallithopter?) that that flew through my car. You are an artist and wizard, sir.
It’s actually slowed down dragonfly wings!
First hour of the episode:“YAY another sunny day in the Citadel!! We get to meet Grandma Wrens friends!?!?! And see Citadel art?!?!?!?! Omg this is gonna be amazing” Last 30 minutes: nvm… 🫥
Brief aside: the phrase they’re looking for near the 54:00ish mark is an “air curtain” (yes, that’s really what they’re called)
Inquiry directly into Taylor's sound engineer soul: what - or indeed, who - did you sample for the giraf-- I mean Questing Beast's noises going on while Brennan was describing it?
"shut up suvi" 😶🌫️
That is going to live rent free in my brain for a while
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
[walking back covered in blood after finishing the episode] damn ok
Brennan nearly got the PVP he wanted but the dice just won’t let it happen!
Curious about Pomeroy's true form/essence. Between the dragon fountain and the koi fish on his clothes and the albinism and the long mustache and the fact he's the guardian of a collection of valuable items (aka a hoard), I thought he was going to be a koi dragon, but the multiple legs and the mention of Eursulon's Divine Sense feeling like it "set off vibrations in a web" that's very spidery. I suppose Chinese dragons can also have many legs but I'm excited to find out!
For a moment I thought it would be revealed that he was the questing beast and that the reason it wasn’t in the paintings was because he was bound to the gallery.
The Citadel: If you make information public, that makes it less valuable.
AAAAAAAAAAAA
Hey wbn gang, I want to say thank you so much for being a great road trip companion! My partner has been pretty disillusioned with DnD the past couple years after branching out systems to Ars Magica and beyond, but despite that, WBN has given him some great ideas for our home games (especially fae stuff)! When we got home, he immedietly continued to play the episode we were listening to, and I've been hearing him continue to listen in his free time. He's a hard dude to please, so I'm thoroughly impressed. Thanks so much for your hard work and this amazing show!!!!!
The link on "allies" going to that tiktok???? I lost it and I haven't even started the episode yet
FINALLYYY YESSS
The voice effect for Opelfind(or however it's spelled) was incredible. The metal scraping is so cool to hear and I have absolutely no idea how Taylor did it.
It was so gooood. Kinda wondered if he was going to be biblically accurate [SPOILER] if he popped out of there.
Suspense brass section during lore explanations is my favorite now 💜
Wow, what an absolutely phenomenal episode. The Collection is truly terrifying and I love it.
So excited about diving into metamagic! The philosophy major in me is going nuts
I'm 30 minutes in. It is soo delightful. I wish I had all the time in the world to illustrate this story. Also the allusion that capitalism is the enemy with the whole survi's parents situation, the axiums...is just comfortable. It wouldn't be a Brennan campaign without it lol. ❤️
Excited to be back in the world of Umora. Lot of proper nouns coming through, could we get a glossary at some point?
So glad you are back. Are we going to blow up Suvi's whole spot now?
Suvi saying "bend the UX" gave my techie self, the tingles 🥰
It's my birthday and I accept this as a present ❤️
Y'all happy New Year 🎉 thank you for First Thing Tuesday Morning, I missed this and cannot wait to dig in
I love the concept of the Questing Beast from Authurian legend because if you really think about the description, it was probably just describing a giraffe🤣
This is so good You outdo yourselves every single time and it truly is life-giving to listen to you telling stories together. Thank you
Brighten my whole goddamn evening.
MY COMFORT MEDIA RETURNS! HUZZAH!!!
I’m excited to listen! I’ve missed this story and these characters.
Just wanted to say happy anniversary! It’s been an amazing journey since the last new year filled with joy and heartache. Everyone who works on the podcast is an absolute treasure. Here’s hoping for another year of wonder and wanderlust through Umora and whatever unfathomable worlds you all dream up.
We're back baby! I'm saving it for my commute on Thursday but excited that the gang are back in business. I hope Taylor had a nice Christmas break 🙏
First! Missed you guys so much these last weeks. Spent hours and hours listening to the last episode over and over. Something about WWW is just so lovely to fall asleep to as well.
