Hi all! Due to some unfortunate technical issues, we're going to be pushing Ep. 51 to release on Thursday, June 26th.

If you’re antsy for some WBN to listen to, maybe go back and listen through some of the Children’s Adventure? The crew is making a podcast. I repeat: A podcast. They are not delivering the news. It’s entertainment. And they have families/children/individual lives with wants and needs/whole other careers they are trying to balance simultaneously with this. I don’t think a single patron can argue that this show does not deliver their money’s worth. Not being kept up to date is not the end of the world. We will all be okay. No matter when this comes out.
Communication and expectations. Everyone in a relationship (parasocial, intimate, professional and otherwise) deserves clarity about expectations and communication. Something about the expectations and communication concerning the production and delivery of this show is consistently dysfunctional.
“Consistently dysfunctional”? Get over yourself. The delivery is so timely every week that we’ve been conditioned to expect that will continue. So much so that this entire comments section is FILLED with people are fiending for it like a drug addict low on supply. I agree that they should’ve sent more timely updates about the delay, but any other critique here is just exaggerated and unwarranted.

And " OMG WE LOVE YOU" All valid opinions to have but the flaws in each are. They might not be able to give an update the nation with the heatwave has experienced widespread brownouts and blackouts In some cases there is entitlement but everyone asking for an update isn't entitled most are just anxious and unrested give them grace It's okay to appreciate the people who make great art but y'all gotta take a chill pill sometimes man

Here’s my two cents: it’s 11:30 AM CST and if I remember correctly the production team is on the west coast, which is 2 hours behind. I’m not a morning person but this team has probably working long hours to get this program posted, and heaven forbid they take a break to refocus or grab some coffee. Plus, too many people in our society have a “Fast Food” mentality. Give them time to work. Personally I’m listening to back episodes, yeah it’s my 3rd time through but I swear, I always find something I missed. 🦊🔥🤗
Taking a break when you’re 2 days late would be an interesting choice.

Well, my cat had diarrhea Tues/Wed so I had an unplanned emergency vet visit. Not sure if he's fine yet, just gotta monitor. But 'Cloudward, Ho!' ep4, its AP were good distractions. I was hoping this would be one, too, as I have Thursdays off. But I'm on my way to work now, and if my cat is fine by the time this drops, I'll take listening to this from a relaxed inner place instead.
Really hoping everyone on the team is OK. This extreme heat wave has been no joke, and with power outages, even dangerous or deadly. Even with power my apartment AC hasn't been able to keep the temperature below 80 degrees F. Without power I'm not even sure what I'd do or where I'd go. As I said, I hope everyone on the team is safe, cool, and all right. Same to all of you.

DBT leaps from my heart into the thread. Describe: The episode is delayed and the communication has so far proven inaccurate or absent entirely. Express: I’m not mad, but I am feeling disappointed and sad, full of longing. Assert: It would help if more information came from the team, perhaps, as many have suggested, over estimating delivery dates. Reinforce: This will help audience members simmer in relative peace and the spare the team heartache and pressure as well. (Mindful that we have big feelings of love for this story and its makers, and that anxiety about feeling “betrayed” by authority figures impacts emotional responses) Time for distress tolerance skills; ima go dunk my head in a bucket of water and give myself little treats to all five senses.
Ok guys there has to be a reaction to this other than seething impatience or parasocial forgiveness and concern. Someone missed a deadline it’s happened before do we even have to react lol
It happens pretty much every week tbf. Not seething, I empathise, one person producing the episode that was recorded months earlier, last minute, without any buffer isn't feasible if they consistently can't keep up with schedule. Its way too much work for one person that presumably also produces a bunch of other podcasts as well, and way too stressful to do last minute. There's no personal attack here, just observation. Hopefully with the continued success of the pod they can expand the team and have dedicated producers.
Y'all. Please remember that this is quite a small team delivering content at a high-end quality. It may seem like minimal effort to provide an update. But, when there's a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of a handful of people, minor hiccups easily become major problems that are mentally and emotionally exhausting. This is a space where we can believe in best intent from Taylor and the team and exercise some extra compassion.

Look, I know we are all paying every month for the content they are providing. And I also know, that payment is so much that they should..... Wait scratch that, folks we pay a whole $5 a month and this team has delivered FAR above and beyond that value. The entitlement from some here in the peanut gallery is astonishing! The ep is gonna take as long as it’s gonna take. If you’re looking for eps to give that good dopamine hit, NADDPod just started a new arc that is, while as good as WBN, the exact opposite on the vibe spectrum. Hilarious and feral where WBN is thoughtful and heartfelt. It’s like WBN’s chaotic sibling. Give yourself a break from harassing a man who I can only imagine is tearing out his hair at the moment.

It's already insane that Taylor and the editing team are working down to the wire to get us episodes, rather than the entire season being ready before releases like D20 (and then having to wait close to a year between recording and release, and having still epic but more contained stories). So I completely understand why there are delays and just want to say that the WBN team is doing so great!!!
I really hope everything is ok... I was on the east coast from Friday until Wednesday and the heat was extremely bad... I know people have mentioned brown outs and I'm wondering if there's just no access to be able to send it out or even send out an update.
If things were that bad I'd assume we'd get an update from a team member not on the east coast. I doubt Taylor's the only one with the Patreon and WBN socials log-in info. And even if he is, all the cast members have social media accounts that they could communicate from, if things were really dire.

There has to be a happy medium between "It's cool guys deadlines are meaningless," and pure unfiltered outrage. I'm not stoked about the delays and I'd even say I'm frustrated but it's just a fairy tale chill out.
I find strange the comments referring to peoples' frustration as entitlement. Expectations set and then not delivered upon are going to cause a ripple of some kind. They just are. How can you know if people are commenting from a place of entitlement?
It's not about being frustrated it's about how you express that frustration. Throwing a temper tantrum at complete strangers because you wanna hear a fairy tale isn't an emotionally mature response. That can only come from a place of entitlement. There's a pretty thick line between saying, "I'm dying for this episode to release already," and castigating the WBN crew because it isn't.
Glad to see folks giving the WBN crew the benefit of the doubt. They made predictions that were reasonable and gave them plenty of time, but clearly something wildly unpredictable happened, and now it's our turn to give them grace.
Take your time on the ep! Gives my friend more time to catch up so we can listen to the final eps together (I’ll try to wait for them but I love listening while at work and im so invested orz )
Given the several hundred comments on this thread at this point this comment might not get read, but worst case this falls on deaf ears. Next time you think there's going to be a delay, under promise and over deliver. Nobody would have raised a fuss if you had said on Mon "Sorry gang, we're not going to make Tuesday release this week. We should have it out sometime in the next week but it'll take us at least a few days to get it just right." but delays at the 11th hour followed by unannounced delays and a lack of communication are going to get people riled up. Nobody actually cares what day the podcast ends up releasing on but in the first scenario I described everybody is thrilled to get a Friday release because they didn't have to wait the entire week to get it, the way it's currently happening though nobody know what's going on and you're getting a lot of frustrated responses.
I always read the comments because we all have the love for this series and I enjoy getting insight from everyone 🦊🔥🤗

Two things I've learned: first, you can block people who's comments you find annoying. Second, fanfiction reading goes up when there is a delayed release, so if you are looking for your WBN fix this might be a good time to create or engage with fan works!

There were unforeseen tech issues with this particular one, not just regular run of the mill mixing & editing delays. Sometimes depending on the tech issue, it’s hard to gauge how long it takes to fix. They may have lost some editing progress and had to start over, or had a computer with a bunch of edits completely die in the heat or NYC brownouts and spent a lot of time trying desperately to recover the hard drive. Whatever it was, seems like it was major enough to initially estimate 2 days instead of 1. And they could have encountered additional issues since then. No amount of throwing money or additional people at it solve these kinds of things any faster. They were probably hoping beyond hope to get it out yesterday too and are dealing with a LOT of tech issue stress right now.

I have said this before in these comments, this is a lesson I've learned the hard way and it bears repeating: Ok first let me say I love you and it's ok. I'm not upset. But ... A really easy way to avoid disappointing people is by not setting expectations. Instead of setting a date and missing it, simply don't set a date. If you are still asked for a date and there are unknowns of out your control (will I have power, local elections), simply stating "I don't know because there are too many unknowns" is much MUCH better received than missing a date that was a guess.
Hope all is well, guessing the episode was so beefy Taylor pulled an all nighter and slept a deserved 12+ hours. We will get the episode when he wakes from his slumber and gives the final thumbs up. Lots of love and energy to you bro!

Honestly, I am just worried about something bad might has happened to one or more of them. Usually they update if they are not able to stick to the anounced date, so this is quite unusual. I really hope, everybody is well due to the times we are living in.

Everyone needs to calm down, there's always a bunch of delays before any episode that absolutely slaps! At this point my unconfirmed conspiracy theory is that they have to wait for Erika to stop hyperventilating before they release the episode. So let's all just buckle up and brace for impact because we all know that either Ame or Suvi has made some ... choices.
So my thoughts are generally that people shouldn't form entitlement and should reign in your expectations, I understand the frustration and maybe I'm affected by not being in the US, but just listening to it the day after release is perfectly reasonable and work from any media company, especially one made very lovingly, is going to take some time. For a myriad of reasons, delays are going to be likely until the end of the arc, if the editing and post production team needs to be expanded that will happen, but doing so now would actually slow things down more due to training the new person/people and forming an efficient working relationship. If you want to put your energy somewhere useful, you could always help edit the WBN wiki, for example, I know there has been asks in the past specifically to add a full synopsis for any episode where battle, trauma and other emotional pieces exist so that those who can't listen to it for their mental health can still know what happens. Help those around you experience the connection you feel to the pod and create a community rather than an economy of supply and demand.
I agree that people should chill but we can't act like it isn't super frustrating to get told a release date have it changed twice and then when it gets changed not deliver on it with no update whatsoever. Not even a hey guys we miscalculated how long the episode would take and are taking steps to work through these issues

The amount of people that think they know how to run this show better than it is run is wild to me. You don’t need to pay an additional $5 to consume this content outside of a streaming service. If you want to support them, support them. If they are not meeting your standards, put your subscription to the patreon on pause. We are getting an s-tier production here unlike anything that’s ever been done in the medium. Before you had this, you were fine. You’ll be fine if you have to wait a few more days. I understand that people are focused on the comms, but it is more frustrating to me that the community is so quick to turn on the people that created this community and sustain it.
I really don't think most people are turning on these beautiful people. Most are just wanting to know if/when it's coming or not, which is a perfectly reasonable ask. We love the work and are eager for it (maybe overly so). But most are both willing and don't mone waiting they just want a ball park of when(People just routine). And for them not to over work them trying to get it out"on time". Most people are just ask them to communicate that it's not coming out today and maybe just maybe when it is.

All you have to do is deliver on your release schedule. I understand delays happen, but they've become the norm and not the exception. Top that off with these half arsed updates its later today nope its Thursday nah just kidding Tuesday next week. Just delay it a week from the get go and save yourself some stress, the community here will forgive you, but when you boy who cried wolf about it the community will sour.

I really wouldn't mind if the episode needed another month for any reason, but I'd personally really rather that delays were overestimated and given once than come back to a second or third delay. Still a fan and excited for the episode <3

These delays have got me wondering how sustainable this audio work is for one person. Writing a feature film length score bi-weekly AND editing each episode sounds absolutely exhausting, I would definitely find myself burnt out. They should probably consider hiring more help or support on post-production, surely they have enough funding to do so with the amount of patreon subs they have.
@Andrew--these are thoughtful professional people and I am sure they're already considering ways to make Taylor's life easier and up the resilience of the post-production process *for future seasons*. To echo a discussion from last month, adding people to a complex project that's already delayed almost inevitably creates additional delays (general form of Brooks's Law). Some amount of unpredictability is going to be baked in to the rest of this season. My personal relief is that they're not compromising artistic quality in order to get episodes out on time--in fact, there seems to be some consensus around these parts that the delayed episodes are often among the best, quality-wise.
It’s just rude at this point to not post an update. We know they read these comments, they know hundreds of people are out here refreshing all day and all night, some people are so passionate about this podcast that they are damaging their sleep schedules just to hear it as soon as possible, give us SOMETHING. And by something I don’t mean the episode, just communicate that it’s not coming. A post that takes 5 mins to write would save hundreds of people hours of their lives. To the people who can just go to bed and hold out waiting, good for you that you don’t care that much, but some of us care more, some of us care the most, some of us are just trying to hold onto what little joy can be found in this life that makes it worth being here, and these people are the ones with minds beautiful enough to make that joy. Stop lying to us.

I get that there are production issues but this is the only popular audio-only actual play that frequently has double and triple delays. I think the least you could do for patrons is be more transparent about why. This podcast has over 30k subscribers all at 5$ a month. Where is all that money going if not into making a consistently released show? Or at least into making a clear and reliable line of communication. I love the members of this pod. But this is an issue exclusive to your podcast, and that combined with an already VERY slow release schedule compared to many other actual plays on the market is just too frustrating.
@Evan Bartlett--I don't know if you've worked in media production, but please take my word for it that this comparison is inapt. Putting all other factors aside, I am pretty sure that this is also the only popular audio-only actual play that has original orchestral through-composition and full sound design, which takes a *fabulous* amount of time and creative energy that can't be out-sourced and is hard to divvy up internally. Something like NADDPOD hits an interesting middle ground by essentially using Emily Axford's existing music as an internally sourced library, but that's not at all what's going on here. While I obviously don't know what the "shooting ratio" (rolling ratio?) is for WBN, my impression is that a *lot* more goes into the primary editing as well, so the timing, vocal fluency, elision of less important rolls, etc. also comes at a heavy time/effort cost. My (outsider but professionally informed) guess is that each minute of WWW takes, on average, 5-15x more person-time to postproduce than a minute of the other heavy hitters (which is not to criticize anyone else's actual plays--it's just a different set of choices around effort). To be frustrated by both the delays and the biweekly release schedule seems almost paradoxical. There's a version of WBN that would come out weekly and almost always on time, and it would still be good storytelling, but I at least am VERY glad we're getting the version we're getting. Also, the primary cast are busy enough that a weekly schedule would also lead to SIGNIFICANT breaks with little to nothing being released. I doubt they'd be able to double the number of recording camps they do even if the post-production process was an assembly line instead of an artisan's workshop. Again, NADDPOD is a useful comparison--Brian Murphy famously has to say "no" to a ton of projects because he's heads-down editing NADDPOD all the time. Not so our four players, and the world is better for it.

All the love in the world to everyone involved in the making of this wonderful podcast, but I would so much more prefer a “hey y’all, episode is gonna drop next week” as opposed to an evening delay that gets blown past, and then another 2 day delay that also gets extended. The lack of accuracy in these announcements just makes it hurt more.
My girlfriend thinks that they should switch to 2 eps a month but keep the release dates flexible. Takes pressure off of production and audience gets essentially the same amount of content. Every other week clearly has become unsustainable and no one should be put under a time crunch cause what we all want is the amazing finished product that these people are capable of— no matter how long it takes.
Living in Oz makes these delays sting twice, but as sore as it makes me, this show is so sweet and it brings me such comfort. I can wait as long as the team needs to get it done the way they want it done.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. It will come when it comes, and with how dedicated this team has been to quality, it's better to trust in their work. We will sink our teeth into this episode eventually, but we need to chill and accept that this might have been something really bad happened tech-side and they're doing everything they can. Absolutely. People shouldn’t be mad at the delay. I’m mostly just upset about how inaccurate the estimates for how late it’s gonna be have been. Just announce it’ll come out next week so people aren’t sat around refreshing all day.

Going to preface this comment by saying that I’m happy to wait for the episodes to be fully cooked even if that means a slower schedule. That being said, the comms for WBN I feel are seriously bad. They feel detached and unreliable, I’m much more happy with a note that says “XYZ problem happened during production and because of that the ep is going up some days later than expected,” but don’t know exactly when, than what we get now which is incorrect specifics and vague details about causes. If you just need more time to cook that’s totally valid! Idk, just annoying to look forward to something and it be delayed a couples times in a row.
I feel like the bad comms are also reflected in the announcement of WWW going on hiatus to make space for Aabria’s sci-fi project. The tone created by the void white background and scripted language made me feel like something much more serious was happening to the show than what was. That video could have felt much more casual and emphasized the fact that this is exactly what the show was meant to be, but tonally read like an apology or goodbye video.
Looking forward to gasping so loud while walking my dog and listening to the next ep. I hope my neighbors ask if I’m alright or in need of assistance.

Drop it at noon if it’s gonna be late, and push it out as far as you need to. Makes no sense that I’m worried they’re still grinding 72 hours after initial release was scheduled, biting my nails wondering if it’ll drop any minute, knowing that at this hour - they should’ve taken it a bit easier on themselves and just released tomorrow or whenever would be comfortable for them. Taking the necessary time is one thing, which I don't think anyone would deny them. BUT they're over 50 episodes deep in this series and across the firesides and one-shots well over 100 podcast episodes deep. Theoretically they should know roughly what time each release takes to edit, how far along each one is, and whether or not it will launch on time well before midnight the day of release. It's not unreasonable to expect better updates so we're not refreshing constantly for days on end.

Honestly same, I struggle so hard retaining information sometimes because i'm listening to these when either: A) i'm working my shift or B) im at home playing some high intensity FPS or MMO hard to follow along sometimes lol. i mean... i do dislike delays, but im fully fine with it because every single time the episode gets delayed it ends up being one of the greatest pieces of audio media i've ever had the pleasure to listen to. at least now we have a set schedule too which is great
