While listening to chapter 3 again, I wondered why the MiB refused to grasp the sword “if I do it will be the last time” is there some property of iron in the sword that will anchor him to the present world or is he already bound to the sword and if he wields it he ceases to exist?

I'm curious who the Empire/Citadel is fighting. I understand that Yoren and shapeChangers are involved. But I'm not sure what the actual scope or stakes are of this war. Is it against Spirits or is that a side faction that's mobilizing? Etc. I suspect we'll learn a bunch in Chapter 4
I don’t think it’s been super explained but I think they’re at war with Roov (king of night) and Gauthmai (Joren/shapeshifters) at different times.

So in the category of follow-up questions Eursulon maybe should have asked when the Man in Black said "your friends will need to die for this war to be successful"... I understand Suvi needing to die. She's a wizard of the Citadel. Was Ame's death being necessary simply a part of removing her from the coven, and Mirara's scheming? Or did it mean that the whole coven (and everyone in it) would need to be destroyed for the Man in Black's aims to be fulfilled? Because the second one introduces a whole lot more questions that Mirara AND Indri, and now the whole coven minus Ame, should probably be asking.
I dont think the stranger is waging war singularly against the citadel, but mankind. Any witch of the world's heart would oppose this so its a foregone conclusion Ame is unwinnable. Its moreso that unanimity is going to be important for the stranger's plans at large.

Also I know Ersalon’s race is based on the firbolg stats but how cool would it be to have spirit and tamori home-brew races? Maybe a couple different spirit races since they are so varied, a beast one, an elemental one… someone needs to make this
