Planet of the Apes

This show was put up against Sanford and Son, which was followed by the breakout show of the year Chico and the Man. Annnnnnnnnd it's gone.

The show did have potential ... and they demonstrated none of it. A good science fiction series tries to focus on real-world concerns, and Planet fell back on "Run like hell - we're being chased!" too often. The need to have something for the "Family Hour" probably neutered the show beyond repair. Good cast, though. Interesting to see the "behind the scenes" program hosted by Herbert Hirschman, although I am pretty certain that all that came from the promos made for the first film (I recognized most of this on the Roddy McDowall-hosted Behind the Planet of the Apes documentary) and was not made for the TV series. I could be wrong, though.
