✨Aspiration Overhaul Mod Announcement✨
My biggest complain for this game are the tutorial-driven aspirations which are boring and sometimes very easy to complete. The Aspirations in The Sims 2 and Lifetime Wishes in The Sims 3 were very good and really gave your sims very long-term goals to achieve throughout their lives. Recently The Sims team acknowledged this "issue" especially with the newly released pack Horse Ranch, which gave us 2 new long-term Aspirations with a single milestone with hard objectives for our sims to achieve. This hopefully is a step in the right direction for future content, but what about the old ones? This adds to the large inconsistency list with the game where they do something, they receive feedback on, they change it in the future packs, but never go back and adjust the old ones.🙃
What I would like to do in this mod is to "Overhaul" the existing Aspirations that have multiple milestones to make something similar to what Ky-e has achieved in her Lifetime Aspirations mod (I recommend you go check it out!) but with multiple objectives. Compared to her mod, mine will have:
🚫 No custom reward traits after fulfilling an Aspiration.
🚫 No custom Aspirations, but Aspirations now have more than 1 objective.
📋 Gone will be the milestones where sims will just want to "eat coconuts" or "become adults" or "read for 2 hours". Instead, you'll have 1 milestone with up to 4 long-term objectives to fulfill (more objectives means more things to do for gameplay).
I'm not only going to revisit these Aspirations but also add a bit of depth to all of them by:
1. 💭 Using a lot of the objectives of the aspirations as short-term/long-term wants and eventually create new ones.
I was shocked when I saw that the "Serial Romantic" and "Soulmate" Aspirations share THE SAME WANTS. They have the generic "Kiss someone", "Hug someone", "Go on a date", "Do something romantic", while they should be "Kiss partner", "Go on a date with partner", Do something romantic with partner" for Soulmate Sims at least, because you can basically fulfill these wants even if you flirt with another Sim beside your Sim's Spouse.😒
Also, things like "Workout for 2 hours", "Earn 5 Influence points", "Become a Vampire" etc...that were previously in the Aspirations Milestones will be converted into wants.
2. 🏆 When a Sim completes the aspiration and get the reward trait and change to a new aspiration, the reward trait gained will retain (almost) the same whimset of the first completed aspiration.
EX: I have a Sim with the "Serial Romantic" Aspiration. My sim then completes the Aspiration. She will get the "Player" reward trait and then I choose the Eco-Innovator Aspiration for her to continue to gain satisfaction points. The "Player" trait would not be much useful anymore since now she wants to reach level 10 in the Civil Designer Career and have wants related to her new Aspiration. She doesn't care anymore to woohoo with Sims or go on dates, it's like she forgot who she was and wants to do something completely different to a thing she strived and earned a reward for.
So what I would like to do here is adding the whimset of the "Serial Romantic" Aspiration to the "Player" reward trait so she will continue to get wants related to woohooing/dating etc... and also use the benefits of the reward trait, while also having wants from the newly selected Eco-Innovator Aspiration (the whimset from the reward traits would be less invasive compared to the current selected Aspiration). You can see it much like the "Primary Aspiration" and "Secondary Aspiration" system in The Sims 2 where sims would get wants from both Aspirations, but endless in The Sims 4. This means that completing an aspiration will actually matter because it will be stuck with your sims forever (there's no way to remove reward traits via gameplay) and will incentivize players to fulfill as many aspirations as they can, so they get more wants and earn more points. The more aspirations you fulfill, the more points & wants you get. The more points & wants you get, the more varied & unpredictable the gameplay becomes and the more rewards you will be able to purchase.
Imagine having a Sim who has achieved the "Serial Romantic" Aspiration, and then after that, you choose the "Soulmate" Aspiration. It will surely give a bit of drama in your Sims lives much like "Family" Sims with a secondary "Romance" Aspiration in The Sims 2.
3. 🧠 Personality will matter when choosing/changing an Aspiration.
I always found it weird that you can make Lazy Sims have an Athletic aspiration or Evil and Mean Sims have the "Friend of the World" one and still show wants for these, it basically defeats the entire purpose of traits. What I want to do here is: having opposing aspirations to your sims traits will result in NEVER getting ANY wants unless you force them to complete these objectives, "forcing" the player to change the Sim aspiration to a more fitting one.
🚧AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS A BIG MOD (AT LEAST FOR ME) TO DO. IT CAN TAKE MONTHS, YEARS OR (HOPEFULLY NOT) COULD ALSO NEVER BE COMPLETED, SO SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS ACCORDINGLY. WHEN THE MOD HAS AT LEAST HALF OF THE ASPIRATIONS DONE (OBJECTIVES ONLY) I'LL PUT IT IN EARLY-ACCESS UNTIL IT IS FULLY COMPLETED. IN THE MEANTIME YOU CAN FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER (OR "X") TO VIEW PROGRESS ABOUT THE MOD DEVELOPMENT.🚧
