Her First Time
Liz and Bubbles would get along great (no they wouldn't)

Ban all IPAs and let's get back to actual, y'know, BEER. Like the Belgians and Germans drink. And the Irish. Okay, and ales and pilsners. But not anything that makes your mouth whither, and certainly nothing that costs less per case than water.
Got news for you, the Germans like IPAs too. I lived over there for three years and did my best to try every Alt and Weiss I could find, but I drank plenty of local IPAs too. 'Actual beer' is just beer and all beers are actual beers (except for the crap they sell at German McDonalds, which needs to be poured back into the horse it came from.)
Now Claire will have to change her name to Liesl Brarian.
I'm 59 and I still feel the same about alcohol. And coffee and tea for that matter. The taste of all of them makes me ill.
interesting. I love all of those. but I'm the only person I know who considers the taste of milk disgusting and one of 2 who can't stand the taste of cola (doesn't matter what brand).
I like beer but it is OK to not like it. My wife can't stand it. I liked it so much when I joined the US Army I asked to be stationed in Germany so I could try all their beers. LOL
Does Bartholomew Tender aka BT also make pretty ok but also very shiny pop-wise dance music? Because I could definitely see that as an explanation (outside my own personal headcanon) as to why BT be like that.
ACCURATE (Yes, you know what I'm talking about)
There's a 100% chance that we're going to get a strip titled "Tender's Game". (It's darts)
My vo-ag teacher, long, long ago, told us boys once "No one drinks beer for the taste, I don't care what they tell you."
Mr. Tender, perhaps you can tell me what the lead content is of what I'm drinking?
135%
Liz has made the classic error of ordering an American standard lager. such a shame.
It is in fact Mr. Tender that is in error.
Still better than Colt 45... 🤢 High School was an interesting time.
While its a shame we don't know what she ordered, we can be reasonably certain it is not a Miller High Lite. Looks more like a Peels with that color.
In the late 1940s/early 1950s my Dad sold Piels in Philadelphia. One bartender called it "love in a canoe" beer. When Dad asked why, he replied "fucking near water". Dad told me Piels launched this big ad campaign, and sales took off - then fell off a cliff. Everyone tried it, everyone hated it - and told their friends.
It occurs to me that Claire may have difficulty living up to Cubetown's expectations. Their hope is near messianic.
So is Claire
I love how Claire totally caught the name pun and Moray is clueless.
And thus began the tenure of Our Lady of Order and Wisdom, may she reign forever.
As others have commented, I think she actually started working a few pages ago.
She's not wrong...
With the caveat that choosing a beer depends a lot on mood and situation, I think the best one I've ever had was called Blind Man Espresso Stout. It was made by an extremely small (1 step above home brewing) brewer in Athens, GA.
One of my favorites is Dark Benevolence by Maumee Bay.
As a German, I recommend mixing beer and coke (if the only beer you can get is a lager or pilsener, as usual).
With coke? That’s a new one to me. Usually folk either mix it with lemonade (shandy) or cider (snakebite)
I need to know how to pronounce Librarian in speech
lol, of course Claire would appreciate his name. I bet Brun would, too.
The first time I had a beer in college (at 18, yes I know I was underage) I tried one sip and I was like “what the hell this tastes like I think pee would taste!” And I think since that time I’ve had only 3 or 4 beers total.
Beer is such a weird beverage. I think most people dislike it at first, then grow to like it. There is also SO MUCH VARIETY, even without adding in flavors. Sometimes the same beer can taste different depending on a number of factors. It's honestly one of the things that fascinates me about it. You could drink beer for years, and never find one you like, but it could still be out there. Also, the drinking age in the US should be 18.
lmao just the way Liz looks away is funny
If I began my beer journey with IPAs It would have ended completely different for me. Glad I started with just a good old icecold lager. :)
She should try a beer and not an IPA then
His nemesis: Bart Ender, Serial Poisoner...
My wife has informed me that's better than beer actually tastes to her.
As a capital-L Librarian Claire gains access to L-space, the most dangerous place in the multiverse. Beware of orangutans.
Ook
He needs a partner, Welles Drinks.
Or Olivia Newton Tapp.
As Jon pointed out, in https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3992 Bubbles says that "India Pale Ales small like a man urinating in a freshly-mown field. As he urinates, he explains to me a subject which I already understand. I cannot get him to stop." BULLSEYE - got to be tied together lol.
I think it means Jeph isn't all that fond of beer.
Capital L Librarians are sanctioned psykers. Hmm yeah that tracks.
Yeah, I could totally see Claire in power armour, aegis hood with a force axe.
Liz lemme introduce you to hard cider
Maybe Mike’s Hard Lemonades.
Marigold would either hate Liz or be weirdly protective of her
I've had some decently okay beer that I could totally tolerate. I love Cider, though, and Mead.
Mmmmmmmead...
but Liz and Sam might get along well
I've never had a hay bale pee in my mouth (or at least I don't remember it happening), but I love the taste of good beer.
Lucky you. I've had hay bales pee in my mouth, and I can't stand American style beer. I've never tried an IPA, but it smells pretty similar to me. To be clear on this, playing hide and seek on a farm is a dangerous enough proposition. Doing it after a rain when there's a leak in the barn roof throws that all into sharp relief in a way I had entirely not anticipated. On the bright side, I identified that there was a leak in the barn roof and Dad was able to get it fixed and prioritize that hay as the next feed rather than giving it time to go moldy. But eww.
BART TENDER IS MY FAVOURITE FOREVER
'hay bale peed in my mouth' is a very valid and astute observation, sounds like a good brew
I wonder if Big Clive is ever going to try carbonating solid things, like hay bales? Probably a vast improvement over beer: https://youtu.be/ATzOgTh12vE
It was probably an IPA, ick
I feel like that would be uncharitably compared to cleaning fluid.
Bartholomew Tender? Have you been watching The Owl House, Jeph?
Only one episode to go!
Why did they start her on an IPA?
Not only do some people like the taste of beer, some like it enough they’ll drink a non alcoholic version.
Somehow I can see Brun fitting right into this mess
I completely forgot about her
I am lowkey loving the big bro dynamic Marten is developing with Liz; he is supportive but also calling her out so she can get comfortable being honest with other people (and to herself). Extremely wholesome content!
Marten is big-broing right!
A friend's mother told me in high school almost no one likes the first beer. You just have to drink until you don't mind.
Or you can never have another one and you still won't mind what it tastes like! (That's what I did.)
Liz is gonna try some of Morays ocean water.
Gremlizabeth*
Gotta agree with Liz on the beer...
We all FEEL that way about IPAs, but nobody wants to be the one to say it.
Hop soda
I am in love with BT and I need art of him yesterday. 😍
Bartholomew Tender!
she's absolutely right tho
thats a pretty accurate description of beer. there are better things to drink. i never acquired the taste for beer that was supposedly gonna happen at some point.
BT is also a common soil bacterium that is the source of a suite of highly targeted pesticides. Its usefulness as a pesticide was discovered by a friend of my dad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacillus_thuringiensis
As a son of a farmer who knows how difficult and expensive applying pesticides are in agriculture and home gardens, please hug your dad’s friend for me.
I'm my head, Liz is voiced by Richard Horvitz.
Thank you for putting the idea of Invader Liz in my head
Bartholemew should recommend a cocktail for Liz...
Liz must have drank an IPA lol
Next time I have to explain why I don't like IPAs, I'm using this.
BART TENDER 😆
GDI Jeph
Time to mix lives and change drinks!
The bartender does look like a Jules… 🤔
Claire's introduction to scotch was a hoot (#https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2384, 2385, and 2400). Now we get to see Liz' journey with beer.
When life takes the piss out of you, beer will put it back in.
Reminds me of a ISIHAC introductory joke about where they are performing where the town discovered someone had replaced their beers with piss. So they were moved to the “home lager” section.
Needs More Harpoons.
".... and mass spectrometer." Yes, the advantages of an AI robot as a Bart Tender are now obvious.
Ain't no one spiking drinks in his bar!
I never liked beer either.
Marten recognizes the capital L-Librarian in a speech bubble. Has he been taking lessons from Thea over at GWS?
I believe Brun can pronounce "..." like a surly character in an anime.
Well that's fun. Never thought I'd see my nickname as a character
You gotta change your username now.
Joseph Brewer is gonna get hired at CoD.
BT better be an incredible source of puns or his name is an incredible tease.
though my first impression was the musician until I realised I completely read past his actual name
I don't understand. Why is that a funny name?
If you take just the front parts of the first and last name it's Bartender :P
Bart Tender. Really.
"At night he becomes a bartender. He works at Mister Cacciatore's down on Sullivan Street, across from the medical center..."
I feel seen
That's a fair description of hoppy beer....
If he starts turning black and rising towards the ceiling, I sure hope they have a baby in a backpack to deploy.
lol i don't get it
Bartholomew tender. The endorphins that must have given Jeph as he wrote it. Also, I love the gremlin so.
Beer: it’s an acquired piss
Liz isn't wrong for a first impression of drinking beer
They should have given her a Guinness instead.
Knew it was Liz's first time the moment I saw the title. This should end hilariously.
