That's a good idea, but already did it so many times it is indelibly memorized 🤣

R
Roombot · March 8, 2023

I wish I could erase my memory of QC so I could go back and binge it all for the first time again.

N
Nash Wolfe · March 9, 2023

There's an amazing scene in Red Dwarf where Holly the supercomputer is bored because they've read every book in existence, so they ask Lister to help: LISTER: I've done it. HOLLY: Done what? LISTER: Erased Agatha Christie. HOLLY: Who's she, then? LISTER: Holly, you just asked me to erase all Agatha Christie novels from your memory. HOLLY: Why should I do that? I've never heard of her. LISTER: You've never heard of her because I've just erased her from your smegging memory. HOLLY: What'd you do that for? LISTER: You asked me to! HOLLY: When? LISTER: Just now! HOLLY: I don't remember this.

If she's made out of gloop / And she needs to regroup / That's a Moray! Reabsorption or no / She'll mature and she'll grow / That's a Moray! If she joined the main cast / Surely it'd be a blast / That's a Moray! So, Jeph, don't hesitate / Please, come on, seal our fate! / Give us Moray! ✨

T
Todd Beaubien · March 9, 2023

That's beautiful! LOL

a
alexandre belinge · March 8, 2023

I'll bet she'll pull an amazing espresso in Coffee of Doom 2.0 !

M
MisterVimes · March 8, 2023

Great. Now I have the image of Moray using her gelatin-body as an espresso machine, with all the rule 34 fanart that includes. Some days, my brain...

J
Jim Feldman · March 8, 2023

On one hand, I think Moray is autonomous but on the other (they/she) was spun off a supremely intelligent AI. If they have failings, wouldn't that point back at the director?

D
Daryl Sawyer · March 8, 2023

Just means the director needs to reabsorb her, integrate her experiences, and issue a new, better Moray.

S
Sten Thaning · March 8, 2023

And a position opens for a chill guy you can come to with your problems?

K
Kiva Catalina · March 8, 2023

Liz's face in Panel 5 - priceless.

M
Mad Marie · March 8, 2023

Perhaps Moray will find a new job as Steve’s cereal milk.

M
Miyaa · March 8, 2023

That’s what I think #5000 will be. But, with Pizza Girl as his special breakfast guest!

D
Dennis Turgeon · March 8, 2023

Damn. I’ve been reading this comic for literal years now. Back before Dora and Thai even got together, back before bubbles or may were characters. So much has happened in that time. Here’s to 5000 more if that’s what you want Jeff!

G
Greg Morrow · March 8, 2023

QC 5000: Steve eats cereal

e
enchantedsleeper · March 8, 2023

🙏 Jeph plz make this happen

U
Unkn0wabl3 · March 8, 2023

Nooo! please don’t go Moray!

e
enchantedsleeper · March 8, 2023

Moray 🤝 Beeps "I am peppy and adorable but clearly unsuited for this role"

D
David Durant · March 8, 2023

Thing is - that's also a very accurate description of Claire going into her new job...

S
SpookyPenguin · March 8, 2023

Nobel Peace Prize incoming for Goblin Girl <3

A
Alexander 'Kav' Kashev · March 8, 2023

The impending strip 5000 is just around the corner..

W
William Borden · March 8, 2023

At least an Orca hasn't eaten her...yet.

m
mammalsounds · March 8, 2023

Is this the part where the Director has figured out that the Peter Principle apparently applies to AI as well? They have risen beyond their capability to administrate the system they now find themselves in charge of -- and, not having any kind of emotional BS to process in light of that knowledge, are now seeking to *correct* those oversights.

m
mammalsounds · March 8, 2023

Namely, by hiring Claire, fully recognizing the nested power of Aurelia's MASTER-LEVEL MOM VIBES, and their potential for good within the TOWN OF CUBES!

M
Matthew Van Gangelen · March 8, 2023

Absorption murder in 3, 2, 1…

P
Pete · March 8, 2023

I guess if she's *forced* to be reabsorbed into the parent mind that would be murder.

S
Shane Wegner · March 8, 2023

Good workplaces definitely support the mental health of their employees and notice when they’re not ok. Even though she is smol, Liz is an adult and I’m placing some(much) of the responsibility for maintaining her own mental health on her. Employers aren’t entirely second parents. But noticing and suggesting help could have happened earlier.

K
Ktulu · March 8, 2023

But.. She's not an adult. She is a genius kid. I don't know if I missed something but in my mind she's like 14-16?

S
Sparky · March 8, 2023

Hmm. Methinks - the Director will spit out a young adult Moray to learn from the Goblin. This has to be HR Moray’s next step in growth.

B
Bagge · March 8, 2023

I'm very sad to say that this is a strike against the principle of running a workplace exclusively through slimegirls

T
Todd Ellner · March 8, 2023

A lot of folks are saying "Let Moray live!" Well, yeah. But it's different for creatures like her. When she is reabsorbed there will be memory, improvement, evolution, and continuity, just not an identical ego. The next Moray will be Moray with the benefit of experience.

F
Finvaara · March 8, 2023

Except we know Moray doesn't wish to be reabsorbed, she's just preparing to accept that as an expected punishment. It's a gain for the director, but it's still the end of her individuality.

A
Absentia · March 8, 2023

I can almost GUARENTEE that Moray will start working at Marten's coffee shop.

D
Doug DeJulio · March 8, 2023

This would be a completely perfect outcome.

F
Finvaara · March 8, 2023

I've just met Moray, but if anything happens to them I shall reformat everyone in the room and then myself.

S
Sammitch · March 8, 2023

Moray has been sentenced to POOLG for Job Crimes.

R
Roombot · March 8, 2023

Moray will work at Marten's shop, Coffee of Chill

B
Bagge · March 8, 2023

I 100% buy into this headcanon

N
Nicholas Palmer · March 8, 2023

I wonder if Moray can be a barista...

T
Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games · March 8, 2023

TIUQ I EM ERIF T’NAC UOY

S
Sean Kinlin · March 8, 2023

Moray will take full responsibility, and apologize to Lord Vad- uh, The Director.

J
Joseph Bonnar · March 8, 2023

Apology (poolg) accepted.

A
Alan Wiggs · March 8, 2023

When a girl made of slime/screws up time after time/that's a Moray

P
Pete · March 8, 2023

If she's bouncy and fun/but the job don't get done/that's a Moray

T
Techdragon · March 8, 2023

I don't think Moray will be permanently reabsorbed into The Director. My thoughts are: 'The Director deliberately let Moray live independently for an extended period so it could observe her interactions with others without effectively micromanaging her actions, in the name of science'. I'll even go so far as to suppose she was instantiated with personality traits that push her towards being more outgoing in order to encourage those interactions. Either that, or Yay made a bet with the Director at some point regarding human/AI interaction and Moray is the 'coin flip'.

T
That Blair Guy · March 8, 2023

There are definitely pieces of this I find appealing. One would hope that some portion of the director's displeasure is directed inwards at determining how to prevent recurrences of this. And perhaps some evaluation of Cubetown's other inhabitants with an eye towards, "Are these people being treated properly?" (e.g. I'm remembering that janitor in the background during Claire's phone interview.)

D
Derek Lewis · March 8, 2023

When you look like a blob, and you’re bad at your job that’s a Moray

B
Bagge · March 8, 2023

If you do take a leak When excitement's at peak that's a Moray

A
Alacrity Fitzhugh · March 8, 2023

But she is squishably soft...

S
Scott Hilton · March 8, 2023

Omg. There really is an angst solstice happening right now.

s
schmod · March 8, 2023

Wait. CAN Moray quit? The implications from what we know about Moray are.... unsettling.

T
Tom wilson · March 8, 2023

She would be re-absorbed back into the collective consciousness of the giant jellysquid... I'm sure it's not like dying, more like having your mind expanded. I suspect that part of the reason the jellysquid can't really communicate well with Humans is because there are a thousand minds in there, all competing for CPU space.

J
JD · March 8, 2023

I think that the real problem is that Moray was one person (AI) doing the job that should require an entire team to effectively accomplish. Keeping track of everyone's mental health is simply not a one person job.

e
enchantedsleeper · March 8, 2023

This ☝️ Also, I don't think she has... any qualifications at all...

J
Johanna · March 8, 2023

Moray: Professional Scapegoat

A
Andrew · March 8, 2023

Is it possible to fail at being a scapegoat?

D
David Durant · March 8, 2023

Is Moray going to be use as the scapegoat for all of Cubetown's issues? What was her job title again? At this point it feels like the Director is an unelected dictator with total power over Cubetown and no responsibility whatsoever. If Moray leaves her job we just have Claire in the same position for the next big thing that goes wrong.

D
Diptych · March 8, 2023

Moray's Director of Sentient Resources. That does mean she's ultimately responsible for issues with employees' conditions.

E
Elberik · March 8, 2023

She has a positive attitude & likes to make new friends. Unfortunately she's terrible at actual HR & team management.

A
Andje Lewkowicz-Lalonde · March 8, 2023

And who's fault is that right? Her actual creator is also her employer, and she's literaly Mrs. Meeseeks

K
Kyle · March 8, 2023

Everyone's like, "wah, wah, don't reabsorb Moray, mean director squid," because they want to keep Moray around. Honestly, we ought to be exhorting the director to keep themself uncontaminated! Moray is clearly defective; send her to Massachusetts where she belongs.

J
Joseph Bonnar · March 8, 2023

I -like- the way you think, Kyle.

M
Michael Boettger · March 8, 2023

I'm thinking that Moray might be the director's sole interface with the world. And she simply in a near constant state of overwhelmed. The director needs more Morays that can interface with the director and other Moray models.

S
Stephen Wells · March 8, 2023

I think they can run in parallel. The discussion earlier strongly implied that this Moray has overlapped with multiple other, much more short-lived Morays who met various terrible fates (smooshed by heavy crate, eaten by orca, recruited by Twitter).

Y
Yelling Bird · March 8, 2023

I've had several jobs I was all-around bad at. The trick is, while being bad, to still manage to be the best available option. That was a lot easier to pull off when I lived in West Virginia...

R
Robert L · March 8, 2023

Being allowed to be bad at your job sounds like almost heaven.

M
MikeT · March 8, 2023

Moray quitting and then another Moray is generated....the infinite employee?

l
legobil · March 8, 2023

I wonder if the Director would want to reabsorb Moray to learn from her experiences before glooping out a more qualified one. And if so, could old Moray be re-glooped again? :)

B
Bill Silvia · March 8, 2023

Is Moray going to be assistant manager at Coffee of Chill?

L
LH · March 8, 2023

omg that would be a disaster. i definitely want to see this

F
Fart Captor · March 8, 2023

On the one hand I love Moray, but on the other, if she resigns it would then be possible for her to ethically make out with Gremlizabeth… 🤔

M
Miyaa · March 8, 2023

I think she’s at least 20 so go for it?

K
K C · March 8, 2023

We have to keep Moray! Do not let her get sucked back into the director!

C
Czarzhan · March 8, 2023

Well, if she *bad* at all aspects of her job, maybe the Director won't want to reabsorb her. At least, not just yet. Maybe she can go explore areas beyond Cubetown. Like Northampton. :)

E
Ed Marshall · March 8, 2023

Plz director do not reabsorb Moray I am begging you

A
Andrea Andrew · March 8, 2023

Please. I want her to live. I like her.

A
Andrea Andrew · March 8, 2023

Please let Moray live.

v
voyager-ngc5195 · March 8, 2023

It's not *that* bad, it's not like she works for *Twitter*...

M
Miyaa · March 8, 2023

Oh no. I sense a shipping arise between goblin girl (lizard girl? I have a cousin named Elizabeth, but the whole family calls her lizard or the dancing lizard since she’s a professional ballet dancer and instructor now) and Morey.

B
Buck Caldwell · March 8, 2023

God damnit no, let her be a child at least in some tiny portion of her life for a while.

J
Jonathan Marinaro · March 8, 2023

#4999 baby! Looking forward to tomorrow!

L
L · March 8, 2023

And then on to #42069

T
Tannerbot · March 8, 2023

Oh Moray...

A
Andrew Mitchell · March 8, 2023

That's a Moraaayyyyy!

V
Viktor · March 8, 2023

Yeah, Morray should not have been in that position for as long as she has.

P
Photon · March 8, 2023

Yeah. Aaaand... who's responsible for that?

J
Jon · March 8, 2023

Aw

Z
Zig Justice · March 8, 2023

Recognizing one's strengths and owning them. "I'm bad at EVERYTHING!"

B
BobC · March 8, 2023

Well, Moray does throw a mean curve, and has that enveloping hug.
