How is Moray-0118 999 881 999 119 725...3 doing?

N
Nash Wolfe · January 13, 2023

I just sang that, you bastard.

H
Hannah Piper · January 12, 2023

I love Claire, as a trans person, understanding the deep importance and significance of picking your own name, but still letting the librarian in her prefer that things be ordered

p
panpolypuff · January 12, 2023

When the Director's voice Gets a number by choice, That's a-Moray!

M
Mad Marie · January 12, 2023

Why is Moray-6 afraid of Moray-7?

S
Sean Kinlin · January 12, 2023

Or Moray-789?

J
Joe · January 12, 2023

the exception is Moray-9. when the Director tried to create her, she attempted to crystalize his entire body. close call, that.

H
Hakurei06 · January 11, 2023

“My big sister analogue was traumatized to such an extent that she no longer considers IRL safe and stays with mother all the time.” “Wait your names aren’t ordered?”

K
Kallisti Kilmer · January 11, 2023

420 69? Nice :)

V
Vanillastump . · January 11, 2023

It kept saying "nice" whenever she was called by name. The orca warned her to stop. She didn't. It really was her own fault.

C
Carol Metzger · January 11, 2023

Honestly, there must be hundreds of them, not unlike the Morays themselves.

C
Carol Metzger · January 11, 2023

If you cheerfully chat, then return to the vat, that's a Moray.

C
Carol Metzger · January 11, 2023

If you only exist to assume mortal risk, that's a Moray.

C
Carol Metzger · January 11, 2023

When your form is a blob and you are not a snob, that a Moray.

C
Clark Wells · January 11, 2023

I keep waiting for the 🎵that's a Moray🎶 joke

L
Luke T. Shumaker · January 12, 2023

I think there was one in the bottom-right text?

C
Captain Button · January 11, 2023

Whenever the Director tries to manifest Moray-601, she immediately overloads from the Strain.

C
Chase the Dragon · January 11, 2023

Moray-8675309. Yeah, she is an odd one.

M
Mad Marie · January 11, 2023

I got it, I got it.

R
Randall Norman Pick · January 11, 2023

When your errant thoughts can wander away and get eaten by an orca.

H
Halloween Jack · January 11, 2023

Morays/the Director are/is the Great Link from DS9.

S
Stephen Wells · January 11, 2023

The discussion of how and why Morays choose their numbers has successfully distracted everyone from the question of how and why Morays all choose to look like Neolithic fertility goddesses. Not a complaint, just an observation :)

l
legobil · January 11, 2023

I also wonder how it was Moray-42069’s fault that she got eaten by a orca. Was she deep sea diving and playing with one? Do they keep orcas as domesticated pets?

j
jason shanley · January 11, 2023

Moray-numberwang

M
Miyaa · January 11, 2023

Now I’m wondering what the Canadian version of Numberwang is like.

C
Carl Cravens · January 11, 2023

Moray-90210 Moray-90125 Moray-867-5309

S
Sean Kinlin · January 12, 2023

To your middle one, I can only say Yes.

M
Mad Marie · January 11, 2023

So Moray is basically a Horcrux of The Director.

F
Foal Papers · January 11, 2023

We don’t talk about Moray-666.

M
Mad Marie · January 11, 2023

no, no, no

M
Matt Pedone · January 11, 2023

Moray 2600 was very blocky and nearly caused the complete collapse of Cubetown when they recruited an extraterrestrial.

L
Lord Travis Lance the 3rd Matheson esq · January 11, 2023

Moray 58008, the only "calculated" choice... Ah, calculators. That takes me back.

L
Leak · January 11, 2023

5318008?

e
enchantedsleeper · January 11, 2023

Does "our" Moray retain a connection to the Director and that's why she knows about the fate of all the other Morays, or did she just see/hear about it? How early do we think she was?

L
Lucy Davinhart (Strawbs) · January 11, 2023

I'd assume so, in some capacity. Given our Moray didn't seem to know whether or not the Director splooped out another Moray, it's at the very least not realtime.

C
Chris Crowther · January 11, 2023

I have questions about why the director apparently always makes Moray units with big boobs. They’re not helping the tentacle reputation..

K
Kyle · January 11, 2023

Listen, if you found yourself cursed with embodiment for some indefinite period of time, BUT you could change your shape however you liked because your body was made of goo, wouldn't you indulge in big boobs? Frankly, it's the most relatable thing about her.

M
Moray Macdonald · January 11, 2023

Is the body type of the Morays controlled by the director? Never knew jellyfish liked ladies with curves!

K
Kally · January 11, 2023

If she's made of gooey computer... Bigger boobs means more RAM?

L
Leak · January 11, 2023

Unter Moray-32168 Geht es rund Die ganze Nacht... (Spider Moray Gang - Skandal In Würfelstetten)

l
legobil · January 11, 2023

Did they also find all the pieces of Moray-42069? Did she also get reabsorbed by the director? Have many Morays been in accidents and gone back to the Director? That sounds quite traumatic for the Director.

S
Stephen Wells · January 11, 2023

Orcas are not famous for giving things back, so I think we have to assume no.

Y
Yelling Bird · January 11, 2023

Yeah. Orcas'll do that.

w
wargrunt42 · January 11, 2023

Moray-404 not found

e
enchantedsleeper · January 11, 2023

Ha, there should have been a joke about that xD

T
Todd Ellner · January 11, 2023

Moray-6502 and Moray-8088, well, we don't like to talk about it

R
Rob McBobson · January 11, 2023

I don't get the 6502 thing.

S
Scott Hilton · January 11, 2023

I love everything about this page.

A
AJ Sharma · January 11, 2023

No Moray 24601?

P
Pejo · January 11, 2023

She's in jail

T
Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games · January 11, 2023

They meant to go sequentially at first but they got caught up in the Mersenne Twister

E
Eeyore daClown aka DaGreatJL · January 11, 2023

I hella feel Claire in the last panel

T
Todd Ellner · January 11, 2023

So they are ℵ₀y

A
Andrew · January 11, 2023

Moray-3.14 is an approximate piece of pi

S
Stephen Wells · January 11, 2023

Every Moray is a whole snack, though.

B
Bagge · January 11, 2023

Her information and experiences are part of the orca now

e
enchantedsleeper · January 11, 2023

There's probably a project in Cubetown to study the orca.

A
Andrew · January 11, 2023

Obligatory Moray-80085

R
Richard · January 11, 2023

Moray-NaN

E
Emma Humphries · January 11, 2023

Moray-42069 was also known as Leroy Jenkins.

T
Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games · January 11, 2023

At least she has cetacean

T
TV4Fun · January 11, 2023

When you drop the hazmat and a robot goes splat, that's a Moray.

I
Izzy Omega · January 11, 2023

While I understand the need for order, I think Claire would understand wanting to go by a chosen name/number.

M
MikeT · January 11, 2023

inb4 LifeofSharks chimes in on how Orcas are assholes

B
Bartley J Drood · January 11, 2023

[channels inner Looney Tunes] Is there a Moray-Q38 Explosive Space Modulator

D
Darthopper · January 11, 2023

Moray, I've got your number...86753091

L
Livy N · January 11, 2023

Has there been a "that's a Moray" joke yet?

T
Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games · January 11, 2023

It’s a joke that we crack Hey let’s all take a whack

T
Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games · January 11, 2023

*cringing, pulling back reflexively* nice

D
Dean Reilly · January 11, 2023

Moray-5318008

M
Mad Marie · January 11, 2023

“Moray 4-2-1: why aren’t you at your post? Moray 4-2-1 do you copy?”

A
Andrea Andrew · January 11, 2023

Now we know which Moray to get invested in as a character.

S
SpookyPenguin · January 11, 2023

Just call them all mate, mate. Which one of the Morays are you mate.

S
Steven Hoffmann · January 11, 2023

Ok, I’ll ask: I don’t get the 42069 joke. What’s the reference?

M
MercuryBuddha · January 11, 2023

A number joke in two parts - 4.20 pm (weed oclock), and 69 the sex position.

T
Thisguy · January 11, 2023

I’m with Claire, that’s going to bug me forever.

S
Sn4ptr4n · January 11, 2023

Moray-2501 reintegrated and gave everyone a headache.

L
Leak · January 11, 2023

...and, for a while, an obsession with Muppet Pasta.

B
Ben Shields · January 11, 2023

It's interesting to me that the Moray units all seem to identify as female. It makes me wonder if the Director would use feminine plural pronouns in those existed in English

D
Derek Leader · January 11, 2023

That can't have been good for the Orca.

D
Dorian · January 11, 2023

I wonder if they would survive the process through the orca and out the other side. If so, great data collection!

S
Spoogle McGee · January 11, 2023

Ooh, so many questions. Are the Morays limited or infinite? Are they actual parts of the Director, or a substance that it creates, and in either case is it finite or replenishable? Even if they are limitless, is there a delay in how quickly they can be created or absorbed, like if you baked three cakes over three days but tried to eat them all on the fourth! Do you think they smell like bubblegum?

M
Mad Marie · January 11, 2023

^as per the latter question, headcanon now says yes.

F
Fred Brown · January 11, 2023

Moray-✓-1 ???

L
LH · January 11, 2023

i don't think that's a real Moray

Y
Yonatan Zunger · January 11, 2023

Also apparently Morays "sploop" rather than forking, this verb is important to know.

T
Todd Ellner · January 11, 2023

They don't fork? There are going to be lots of unhappy fans

J
Jennifer Doyle · January 11, 2023

Can Morays integrate with each other, and share info that way? If they can, can they also separate again? Do they have to upload to the director and then disappear forever, or when a 'new' one with the same number is glooped out does that mean the consciousness is back? If something understands numbers enough to pick a favorite, why would it not also understand naming conventions (like sequentialism and uniqueness?) I am MADE of questions!

Z
Zak Reichle · January 11, 2023

I'm 100% for a Voltron Moray

Y
Yonatan Zunger · January 11, 2023

Don't worry, Claire. Moray-[unpredictably assigned unique ID] is a well-known classification method and is actually preferred over sequential in many instances for security reasons. (It doesn't leak Moray count information)

D
Drazi · January 11, 2023

You aren't wrong

Z
Zak Reichle · January 11, 2023

Sploop here she is!

P
Photon · January 11, 2023

Gotta wonder what she was up to with that orca... and why she sassed him...

M
Marin Page · January 11, 2023

When a.... Pseudopod sploots out some humanoid goop That's a Moray...

A
Abhayakara · January 11, 2023

Someone had to say it…. :)

T
Todd Ellner · January 11, 2023

Moray-8675309 is my favorite

T
Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games · January 11, 2023

For a good time For a good time poolg

J
James H. Hobbs · January 11, 2023

Wait until she tells her that numerous have picked the same number.

T
The Agarics Formerly Known As Plants · January 11, 2023

I appreciate you taking the time to answer the questions about Moray numbering.

V
ValdVin · January 11, 2023

Random thought: Moray-## emerges and picks a favourite number. Does that suggest Morays already have a conscious sentience before emergence?

C
Czarzhan · January 11, 2023

Not necessarily, but it does suggest each consciousness is different once shlooped out.

Z
Zak Reichle · January 11, 2023

I wonder if all the Morays have used she/her.

S
Shawn K. Younkin · January 11, 2023

42069? Sigh....

A
Adam · January 11, 2023

The situation with the Morays reminds me slightly of the Interpreters from Look to Windward.

P
Peter McDevitt · January 11, 2023

Well that's not very nice.

A
Absentia · January 11, 2023

Moray-8675309

B

S
Sean Kinlin · January 11, 2023

Moray-42069 died, somewhat appropriately, by oral ingestion.

B
Blake Manor · January 11, 2023

who says she's dead?

F
Fart Captor · January 11, 2023

RIP Moray-42069 🫡

J
Jim Castriff · January 11, 2023

Oh! We're actually discussing this? It wasn't just a gag? Fascinating!

C
Captain Button · January 11, 2023

The Orca gagged on her.

C
Chauncey · January 11, 2023

I admire Claire’s patience. I’d be sooo done with this place and on the next flight home by now

M
Michael Boettger · January 11, 2023

Claire will likely ask for a number of Morays to be put at her disposal. Not only as liaisons to the director, but as eyes and ears, such as they are, for Claire.

F
Fart Captor · January 11, 2023

I LOVE MORAY SO MUCH LMAO
