No comic today?
So far, no. I always worry a bit about Jeph when the comic is late or missing, which says a lot about me, and nothing about Jeph.
She's gonna be Director Augustus before the end of this visit
And Dictator Augustus, the week after.
TBH biggest problem with this whole environment is the horrendous lack of *boundaries* - hilarious for a comic, but triggers all my work and childhood traumas.
Or maybe a good security officer would assume there were flaws in their security system and therefore would opperate under their assumption...
This. No such thing as a fool-proof security system, it would actually make sense to prep and do checks incase of failures, versus waiting for them to happen to do them.
I think this AI woman might be as tall as May or Bubbles.
Probably not as tall as Bubbles, she's only about a half-head taller than Marten.
I feel like finding a stranger scoping out your room in an unfamiliar place, operated by an organization that's giving you a lot of red flags (and also putting the potential stress on you of having to move away from friends and family to deep dive into a project you don't know if you're equipped to deal with the scope of) might result in someone being on edge with increasingly limited patience for shenanigans.
I worry Claire is going to blow the interview on the grounds of culture fit. She’s way more uptight than any of the locals.
On the other hand, as Yay said, they desperately need someone like Claire.
From what i hear and read this is the experience of most Germans moving to the US. The rest fit right in.
Wow, she's uh. Not nice.
Poor Evan. If there were a panel 5 she would be resigning in it. She needs to talk to Roko.
Claire is just being mean here. Of course there are critical points of failure in a security system. Give them the benefit of the doubt that they have thoroughly checked Evanescent.
Yeah, she's being a lot of a dick here.
Are those tactical chocolate bars in the vest? Or tactical handheld game consoles?
I have a tactical chocolate bar in my purse. Keeps the me in line.
But Claaaaiiiir! She's ADORABLE
I want Claire to take the job just so we get more of Moray, Ol’ Boaty, and Evan.
Claire, it's still not too late to flee back to the mainland and go home. There are more red flags in Cubetown than there were in the entire USSR!
Claire's going to wind up as the director of Cubetown, isn't she?
... and then go all Bond supervillan, including the white cat on her lap.
It took me *years* to learn to float. Like: at the age of five, I still couldn't.
Claire, not the manager they deserve, but the Manager they NEED
Dang, this place really does need her.
The way I see it, a lot of people in Cubetown seem to do 'work' about the same way as Melon does. Part cosplay. Part performance. Part figuring it out from first principles. Might not exactly be what Claire is looking for in a workplace
Ouch, that was rude. This place is starting to get to Claire
From when I seen everybody’s good at their job the problem is that part of experimentation means failure will occur 99% of the time until you get the desired results. The incompetence of our security guard is obviously the only true failure here.
This is the pivot where Claire passes from intimidated quickly through contemptuous and out the other side into "I've got this! Outta my way you underclocked gaming consoles!"
These guys reeeeeeaaaally need Claire.
Hot Damn! Give me a mystery series starring Claire as the crime solving librarian! I'm already hooked!
OMG we need this!!!
The best part is, Claire hasn't even seen the actual working part of Cubetown yet...
Because I am a bad person and a terrible sailor, I want to name a boat “Ol’ Sinky” now.
Call it the Moskva. Comes to the same thing
And 5 years later Claire is CEO of the whole business.
I'm confused. Why would it take five years? I mean, I saw somebody go from new hire to CEO in five years. At his interview, he told the hiring manager, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" At most jobs, that gets you a, "Sorry, you're overqualified" response, but this company was a start up that was attempting to double its size every year and up to that point, it had always exceeded its annual goals. So "you want to be a manager" was not a threat; they were going to need at least half again as many managers by the next year, so he got the job. Got promoted to management in a year. That place had its problems, but it didn't have anything on Cubetown. I expect, if she wanted to be CEO of it, she could get there in much less than 5 years.
I'd like for Claire to take over as head of the "Do you really need to be working here" department. She looks over and archives the goings on of Cube Town and figures out of somebody is here for a cause that's for a legitimate purpose or somebody that's just there to start shit(not in the name of science).
Yeah this just feels like Claire being critical for the SAKE of being critical, leading to her wanting to leave.
She's had more than a few misgivings about how the place has been run, and it's all piling up especially if the *head of security* is like this.
I love Even's expression in panel 2
I would argue that Moray is excellent at her job, provided her job is being thicc, viscous, and adorable.
And Moray did get Claire and Marten here alive and unharmed. Marty might be a little worse for wear, but being seasick doesn't really count as "harmed".
Me thinks that Claire is leaning towards turning down the job
I think that was always a forgone conclusion.
Claire’s going to end up running this town, just to fix it out of spite.
Claire is being a little harsh here, though not entirely unjustified. There are probably multiple ways someone could gain access to the room.
I've known lots of people that were bad at their jobs but could still float. That's why you tie the cinderblock to their ankles before you toss them overboard.
Amateur. You also wrap the body in chicken wire so bits don't come off but fish and crustaceans can get in
I'm sorry, as someone who has run security before, I'm offended by the suggestion that Evan isn't starting her day off thinking about insider risk.
If she were thinking about incider risk, she'd have been checking their drinks. Also, I want to know what's happening with all the data that the bug sweep is picking up. (Hi, Yonatan! :D )
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Ask Dave Gibbons. And Alan Moore.
Damn, Claire, that's a little mean xD
Claire's just proving how much Cubetown needs her. Uncommon sense.
Claire will be the most successful evil villain on this side of Hanner’s mom.
I have heard of double agents and triple agents…what would be the best term for those who are flipped so many times they have forgotten which side they’re truly on?
Pancakes
Oh she's getting mad
So it’s like every job.
Claire's days of tolerating Cubetown's shenanigans are coming to a middle. Er...hours, not days.
As someone who has been puked on, I can say that dealing with other people's vomit tends to put me in a bad mood.
Marten in particular should have some sympathy with Boaty on that subject.
All of cubetown is high int., low wis. And apparently with an unlimited budget. Eek. The term minimum safe distance may apply.
And if planetary destruction is on the cards, 'minimum safe distance' may be very far indeed!
So, Claire is about to be voted most competent and made the CEO, isn't she?
Bahahahahahaha that’s the opposite of what CEOs are hired for. Good one!
Huh, I was not expecting Claire to say that.
Like ... It seems very out of character
Claire “Miss Marples” Augustus, Esquire
The infrastructure of Cubetown seems to be built atop a pile of red flags.
It very much reminds me of that expedition in Monty Python's Flying Circus. The one to climb both peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. "Well I'm afraid I shan't be coming on your expedition sir, as I've absolutely no confidence in anyone involved in it."
Ooh... Claire is not impressed 😅😅😅
Oh come on be nice Claire they are just doing their job.
I believe Claire would counter that they are not, in fact, doing their jobs.
I adore Claire
Floating dick...
One of my favorite British desserts!
