There's a '1 o'clock gun' (a cannon) fired in Edinburgh every day... helps you tell the difference between tourists ("WTH WAS THAT") and locals (*checks watch*)
I merely lifted an eyebrow when it happened during my visit, does that mean I fit in?
I lived in Halifax for 3 years and was still startled every time they set that cannon off.
One key missing detail is all the bugs and dust that would be sticking to/in Moray as she travels at high speeds in open air!
She absorbs and digests bugs as a source of supplementary nitrogen compounds. People touching her is completely almost safe, though :)

I'm choosing to believe that the blurring effect is actually due to the shockwave from the explosion. But Cubetown is definitely vibrating from the other thing you mentioned and thoroughly enjoying it.

Growing up on military bases, we always had a cannon (prob a howitzer) go off at 9a and 5p every weekday.

I used to live in a town that “tested” its air raid siren daily. Ending that process involved a really weird old guard/new transplant tension, as though not wanting a daily siren going off (tradition!) was a sure sign of moral degeneracy. And it went off at a weird time, like 1:50pm, so it wasn’t even a particularly useful timekeeper.
The first day it doesn't go off, someone who hasn't heard the news: "The siren didn't go off! They must have bombed the siren!! TAKE COVER!!!"

It seems like unexplained explosions off the coast of Halifax would be super duper unpopular. They haven't historically had a great experience with those.
