Kevin, no...
Is she the mom to the liquid metal guy from the Terminator movies?

In a fight between Station and Cubetown, who would win? ;)
I think Station, they have gravity on their side.
All I can say is: Poor Claire. Going by the expressions on her face, especially in the last panel, she is about 60 seconds or 2 more comic strips from a complete nervous breakdown.
There's a reason for that "Don't sit here" sign.
Huh, most gelatinous cubes digest things when you put it inside them.
If the sleeve of his coat starts to melt away in a bit, I would like to remind everyone the only other thing she's confirmed to have touched was... Basically all the clothes Claire was wearing. Didn't get a chance to touch Marten. ...I mean, if her skin's auto-cleaning function eats clothes on contact, that would explain the nudity...
This makes me think that Moray is running off hardware that's centrally located within Cubetown. I also believe that she is multiply embodied, simply casting into however many...let's call them sleeves like altered carbon.... Sleeves as the situation requires.
"...is multiply embodied...." Now you've got me wondering about Yaay's background.
Boundaries: Moray is vaguely aware of the concept in an abstract way.
I have a suspicion that to Moray, boundaries are the surfaces between where something is and it is not, and not much else.
sings “…warm…touching warm…reachin’ out…touching you, touching me…”
🎶 Sweet, Moray-bot.... (dum, dum, dum) Gloop times never seemed so good..... 🎵
This has awakened something in this child.
Oh no it has already awaken. This is fate doubling down on a pair of Kings versus Kevin.
("And I function as a safety device in case of a crash!") -"I'm an EMT. Can you tell me what happened?" -"The last thing I recall was a warm, comforting 'Gloop'. A bit gooey but I'm not hurt anywhere."
Is Moray any more erratic than Pint Size? No, not really. She just has a lot more authority and less grindhouse. Let's not judge the entirety of Cubetown on Moray's personality (which I absolutely adore). She just told us that she's an experimental AI. She's bound to be a bit buggy.
I think you mean quirky. But that's OK, everybody is. Some are just more than others.
I have to be honest, I'm getting increasingly confused by the Cubetown subplot and how long it's gone on for. This place seems like a total disaster to work and it's hard to imagine Claire enjoying working somewhere with this level of chaos and disorganization. I can imagine that she learns something on her visit that makes the job appealing, but I'm hoping we get there soonish, because so far it just seems like it would be a nightmare to work there. Moray seems really nice, but like you'd want her to be your friend, not your boss
And also, you'd want her to be your friend, like, twice a month tops. With a good long recovery period in between episodes of friending.
I’m missing a sound effect from the boys hand. Like, a “gloop” or “glope” or “glove”
Schloop!
How is Moray producing sound to speak with? I need to know more about their artificial biology.
Her whole body can be a speaker! However, she's learned to make sure that the sound emanates from her head so as not to freak people out (any more than she has to).
I want to see Kevin (10?) meet Sam and Emmett (13 or 14?) so they can be a bad or at least problematic influence on him. And the shock when Sam realizes that in Kevin's eyes she's almost indistinguishable from an adult.
And in mom's eyes, Sam is indistinguishable from Kevin.
"He put his hand IN MY MOUTH to see if it would disappear!" Griffin (Invisible Man), Hotel Transylvania
I love that movie way more than a 61 year old person should...
The Customs/Border Agent’s face!!
She is, ~intrigued~
Function as a floatation device? Edit: After ready some of the other comments.. the name is Moray, not Fi-Fi.
May would sense (well, maybe proclaim) the erotic possibilities here
I love how the commentary for this comic in general rotates between: “aww”, puns, horny, and deep, intelligent introspection of society and the individuals featured with a smattering of personal anecdotes. I come for the comic, stay for the community.
This. The comment section is what keeps me backing Jeph on here.
social moray
Moray does children's parties
Moray also does grown-up parties.
Melon would want to climb completely inside. Melon on the inside, Moray on the outside.
Moray would enjoy that
Put her and Melon in a room together. That could create some fun conversations/situations.
Gawds help us.
I dunno about my hand but there is something else I want to try to put through her...my foot. Did you think I was going to say something else? Something I wouldn't rush on my first date with her? Well go sit in the corner.
I dunno, putting your foot through someone seems even MORE inappropriate for a first date.
The ease that kid has in sticking his hand through Moray makes me doubt her effectiveness as a safety device in a crash. Either that or her goo is wickedly non-Newtonian.
Delightfully non-Newtonian?
Terminator 7.5 looking good technology wise
A real hit at those special parties
Jeph likes slime girls, confirmed
No goo residue being left everywhere, no "oh did I mention the nanites in my skin eat clothes," no "watch this if I drink water I swell up in places..." He's not THAT into them. :P
I'm honestly surprised that humans aren't wigging the f*ck out more at the rapid pace of AI body development. It's a better world there, or there have already been some messiness and we don't see that, or maybe it's a little wild-wild west, like crypto is/was? Or it could just be THIS TOWN (ugh)? :)
The fact that no one at all has commented on a mostly humanform AI walking around stark naked remains one of those wtf moments of this arc to me. Heck outside of the kid being all "woah" no one's even really commented on her being a slimegirl - some are eyebrow raising but mostly at things like her leaping up and down like mad and the like. So either everyone's SUPER polite or we missed some worldbuilding where nudist AIs aren't uncommon enough to even be illegal anymore, or slime chassis are just a thing now and everyone knew about them already, or everyone's like "pppfh, it's Cubetown, what are you gonna do?"
May would ABSOLUTELY love this feature
ANYWHERE CAN BE A HOLE YOU <i>ARE</i> THE HOLE
Someone saw Abyss and said, "You could make a robot out of this!“
Kevin is getting in Moray's head.
BLORP
I think this answers the people who were asking about Moray's opacity.
If this is fine and she hasn't sprung a leak, then she must have been super worked up when she was excited from the prospect of Claire joining a lil' while back
Okay, now I'm wondering if she's the same material all the way through, or if her skin is a flexible covering and her interior is a much more liquid affair.
From her introduction, I would guess her skin is some sort of clear dermal layer (which given how it is covering Kevin’s hand on the other side, means it must have pretty high tensile strength), with the goo encased therein.
This answers so many questions that I didn’t want to ask.
that's a brutal formative moment if it becomes his first fetish; so little porn in that category...
It would be challenging, but per rule 34 there has to be some.
I feel like putting Russell, Joel, and Yelling Bird together in a room with Morey would be... Interesting.
Kevin is going to date an experimental viscous robot when he’s 17. I’m sure of it now.
By then, maybe viscous robots will no longer be experimental.
Jeph, you are making me very confused and rather nervous on the topic of surface tension vis-a-vis Moray.
now comes the rebound of a pornographic GIF I saw once that's been living rent-free in my head that includes a gel lady
I don't know if i really gel with this new information.
… I’m going to need some Jell-O shots after this pun.
Ok, that answers ANOTHER question I had...
This post is so, so close to the original Yelling Bird gimmick you did 😂
Does she go "SCHLORP" when you pull out?
Of COURSE. It’s a feature. Her nanogoo is finely tuned to produce that specific sound, much like Ferrari engines are tuned to a specific pitch and timbre.
Well that's an... interesting interaction.
Fart Captor ended up being right! Moray is Padded for everyone's safety
This better not awaken anything in me.
Too late for Kevin
Melon/ Moray. All good.
Secretly, they're actually the same person. They met Yay and decided to experiment and then Cubetown happened. At least that's my latest headcanon. ;) Edit: This is, incidentally, how Claire got the job. She figured out that Cubetown really needed the help of someone with some organizational skills, so thought about who in her extended social circles was most known for having organizational skills. The reference to some other 'director' is just to try to keep the lid on her real identity. She doesn't want Yay to get upset that she's stealing their shtick.
I take it this is the first time she’s been out in a while.
I think so too.
Probably don’t confuse her for jello shots, though…
… or any slime from a 1990’s - 2000’s Nickelodeon live action or game show.
A big hit.
But it kind of annoys me that the mother here runs up and starts to apologize to MARTIN, rather than to Moray. I have a wheelchair bound friend who is intelligent, active, funny, aware, and sweet, but whenever we go anywhere I get people talking to me about them and NOT to my friend. Which is a mistake, because my friend swears like James Fell. Or worse.
