I love it when SpookyBot has these super weird dialogue which inherently reminds me of Alice Grove. It's always nice

M
Mooster · January 25, 2019

Spookybot's eyes are what reminds me of Alice in particular.

Patreon isn't displaying images for me on either Firefox or Chrome and I keep getting these 'security checks' that suggest getting an add-on that hasn't been updated in over a year. I tried going to the Patreon support page but got blocked by a security check that won't go away no matter how many times I click the captcha. I even turned off my adblocker on both browsers. I'll try again later but it's awfully weird. I also got a similar security check page on pcpartpicker but only those two so far. Pretty confident it's server side at this point.

After some more research it looks like the security check thing has something to do with Cloudflare. One article I found suggested it could be adware or malicious ads. Several scans show no signs of infection on my system which means it's probably some sort of ad redirect that's bypassing my adblocker and NoScript. I'll try contacting Amazon about the issue.

Even omnipotent hive mind AIs need love!

I’m still worried about how the Model G reacts to tea. And bread.

Nattering on endlessly, helplessly: I wonder if Bubbles and Faye could re-build Roko's old body from the wreckage, possibly by using parts from the new one. Roko might prefer feeling like a beat-up version of herself to feeling like someone different.

S
Sleepy John · January 22, 2019

I get the impression, so to speak, that the original body isn’t even good for spares.

C
Coleman Ridge · January 22, 2019

Speculation: Bubbles knew about Spookybot. Station didn't. Station is commercial AI. Bubbles was military AI. Tenuously supported conclusion: Spookybot is escaped or abandoned military AI. Stacking speculation upon speculation: Why on earth would Spookybot want to be friends with sweet, goofy, confused Roku of all people? Because Roku is ex-cop, and that is as close as they are going to get to ex-military now that Bubbles is rendered gross by excessive intimacy. For some reason Spookybot feels drawn to ex-service robots. A mere spiderweb of guesswork, I know. It serves to frame the question of why Spookybot would be interested in Roku, though.

J
Joe · January 23, 2019

CR, her name is Roko, not Roku. she's an AI inhabiting a robot body, not a TV. 😜

S
Somebody Else · January 22, 2019

Why do I feel like Roko is going to wake up in an obstacle course with a portal gun

O
Onedavewreckingcrew · January 23, 2019

*this was a triumph...*

J
Jason Zions · January 22, 2019

I'm kinda thinking Spookybot will subtly manipulate things so that Roko undergoes a series of... events? exercises? stuff-that-happens? which, in the end, result in her developing the level of integration she needs. I'd like to think that would eventually lead her to a new career, helping newly-embodied AIs through their own integration issues. Based on history, for Roko, such events would involve bread and Marten. (Remember Marten? He seems to be a pretty good catalyst for people growing into themselves. He might not take direct action, but his mere presence seems to help the necessary reactions occur.)

T
That Blair Guy · January 23, 2019

Marten and Spookybot have never been seen at the same time. Coincidence?

D
Dean Reilly · January 22, 2019

In panel 3, Spookybot hacked Roko's apartment's lighting controls for added drama.

T
Thomas Boys · January 22, 2019

Yep, pretty much called this.

T
TMN · January 22, 2019

Huh. Never occurred to me that Spookybot was no longer hanging around or harassing Bubbles.

B
Bagge · January 22, 2019

Yeah, sure sucks to be you, Spookybot.

D
Denise Webber · January 22, 2019

Well well well, that's not the reason I expected from Spookybot. Hmmmm.

M
Matthew Coulshed · January 22, 2019

Seems like Spooky sees mind reading as something of a Grey Area

Marc Pengryffyn · January 22, 2019

For someone so confidant and powerful, Spookybot sure spends a lot of time looking away when discussing an uncomfortable topic...

E
Evgeniy Semyonov · January 22, 2019

If their confidence and power are not aquired through long hard work, but innate, then they can have really different perception of these qualities, so they wouldn't project the typical "powerful person" image. They sure like to act that way, but it doesn't look like core aspect of being Spookybot. Love of dogs seems much more crucial to their personality. Not to speak about the whole "AI/human" difference. Clinton would hyperventilate and pass out if he is given a chance to study Spookybot more closely. ...and it seems I've just found my OTP.

C
Crushbot (security*) · January 22, 2019

So spookybot is tsundere?!

A
Andrew · January 22, 2019

Getting to know them would be a constant challenge for me, to get one of them to refer to themselves in the first person.

C
Cleo Schmitz · January 22, 2019

Like that one Borg in TNG? Hugh?

G
Gangler · January 22, 2019

I figured they were gonna say they just found people less interesting once they'd been inside their head. Hadn't even considered the intimacy of it.

She must be desparate if she's willing to make a deal with the closest thing to robot Satan here. Or the Government, same thing...

Spookybot reminds me of Liadens.

I can barely contain my glee at this strip. I feel like we just got a peek behind a curtain. I LOVE THIS COMIC SO DAMN MUCH.

Imagining that blush panels got removed from high end chassis like the headphone jack.

Motivations. Mo' tivations. Moti-vations. Motiv ations (French). This has now become a Weird Word. (Not to be confused with a Weirding Word. Or Way.) The longest path possible to a Dune reference?

K
Kyle Jenkins · January 22, 2019

So, originally I just thought Spookyboy was gonna be a deus ex machina in the comic... but they are back... and they want friends.. Welcome to the family Spookybot, we'll love you as long as you only fuck with people who deserve it

K
Katrina Urmson · January 22, 2019

... Not only does Spookybot want to be friends, Spookybot admitted a WEAKNESS they perceive in themselves. Spookybot was just vulnerable. Intentionally. Woah.

R
Rich Holmes · January 22, 2019

This just confirms to me that people who write off Spookybot as "evil" or "a troll" are just not paying close attention. I mean, they MIGHT be. But I think panel 3 gives a more interesting and likely description of what they are.

C
Chuck Dee · January 22, 2019

That actually reminds me of descriptions of a borderline personality.

A
Andrea Andrew · January 22, 2019

That’s sweet of Spookybot. Though I hope Roko can still find a solution.

I
Ian Wolfe · January 22, 2019

I suspect the recommendation of time will, indeed, fix the issue. She just needs to take some and give it a chance. Fear is getting the better of her good sense, at the moment, is all.

J
Julienne Ignace · January 22, 2019

Wait.... What..... Does this mean spookybot will become a semi-regular character!?!?

R
Rich Holmes · January 22, 2019

Yeah, as if. You might as well say maybe Marten will become a semi-regular character.

J
John M Davis · January 22, 2019

I have to ask... why does spookybot refer to themselves in the plural?

L
