Live Long And Prosper
woops, fell asleep before i posted this last night!

Sorry Jim, you've been reassembled one too many times!
The Murderbot Diaries are my comfort book series.
Jeph better not kill off Moray. I get depressed just thinking about it.
Taking Moray's concern seriously: Would you be able to tell the difference? If not, then this is legitimately nothing to be concerned about. If you could -- or if you're afraid that you could -- what you're really saying is that you're afraid that the treatment for this could have side effects that stay with you and really affect your life going forward. That's not an unreasonable concern. But right now we don't even know what the treatment and its side effects *are*. So let's find that out -- and I promise we won't actually do anything until you understand the risks and *you* get to be the one to make the decision of what you want. We now return you to your regularly scheduled butts.
Doesn’t like Star Trek? Bites people she doesn’t like? Defaults to gremlin mode? Liz really is the perfect woman.
We need some more Tendis, T’lyns, and Mariners in his comic.
Saying you're a different person when you wake up than you were when you went to sleep has to be one of the most ridiculous philosophical ideas I've ever encountered. If you're talking "consciousness continuity", your "consciousness" undergoes more changes while you're awake than it does when you're asleep.
Live long and perspire.
Actually, this is the fifth Cubetown. The first three blew up and the fourth was stolen. I blame the third one on the Genetic Interferometry lab, myself.
The third one actually blew up, burnt down, and sank into the ocean. But the fifth one stayed up!
Say WHAT, Liz?!? That's it. I'm rage-quittin' this questionablecontent stuff! *flips table
Greg Egan is also a gifted mathematician, and is sometimes viewed as the patron saint of PhD sci-fi nerds. Perfect fit for Liz!
Meaning no disrespect at all to Greg Egan, but predecessors from Dr. Edward Elmer "Doc" Smith to Professor Isaac Asimov might just have been Ph.D. SF nerds first.
I'm guessing she's a Stargate fan, or does 'every planet looks like Vancouver' turn her off?
I'm hoping the purple is nothing bad for Moray, because she's kinda rocking the look.
Liz, no 🤫
It's a fraught topic. Apparently I am an electrochemical fire burning inside of a monkey's head. And my purpose is to care for the monkey. My perception of persistent consciousness is just illusion that is necessary to keep me engaged.
When transporter debate Makes you fear Trekkie hate That's A Moray!
She needs to take in more Rudy Rucker, in my thinking...
oooooh, new uniform style
It *did* kill you and make a new copy, though. That's how they ended up with two Rikkers
or sometime you had to manually kill someone afterwards 🖖 🤡 RIP Tuvix 🪦
Maybe Star Treck is the Dutch version.
"Start Wreck" is the hillbilly space adventure version. "Space, the furthest off holler."
I don't have a link to the original comic where (this) Moray chose not to be re-absorbed, but I got the impression that it was less about the transporter problem and more like "The Great Link" from DS9. I.e. if Moray gets absorbed and all her memories and experiences are merged with the Director, then the next Moray would have new memories.
It might be flashed back to in more places but they talk about it here: https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=4959
Greg Egan mentioned dot gif
There’s a Canadians not liking Nickelback or Celine Dion joke in there somewhere.
Live long and propagate! 🖖
🎵 Concerns are, for this bot Hypothetical, not That's a Moray!
Recommended reading for anyone who likes Star Trek, doesn't like Star Trek, or isn't sure: 'Redshirts' by John Scalzi
And Jonathan Coulton's theme song is a necessary accompaniment. Trust me; sometimes a book needs a theme song.
Liz saying she doesn't like it rather than insulting it or its fans is pretty nice.
I am curious as to whether AI have a greater 'free will' than humans. (Do I mean in the comic? I guess time will tell) But towards the comic, AI minds are made of quantum flibberty-jibbit, so as I understand it, even if you mirrored one atomically you're still not going to capture that essence that makes it an individual, if anything you're just creating a completely separate someone (or no-one, who knows how the ai creche works.) But human minds, as far as we're aware and barring any philosophical thoughts of a soul, (which would in effect be our own quantum whatszit) function organically and within classical mechanics. You should be able to duplicate a human mind. But, so if you can duplicate humans but not AI, then that should mean AI should have a greater free will, as it cannot be replicated. See Liz, this is what happens when I'm not allowed to just reference a Star Trek episode.
When you caution your peer "Don't diss Star Trek 'round here" That's a Moray
There’s a Lower Decks “it’s just cosmetic” joke in here somewhere
Star Trek walked so The Prestige could run? xD
Rascals is my favorite TNG episode ever speaking of transportors.
I was starting to wonder where the comic had gotten to.
It was stuck in the transport buffer.
Finding myself agreeing with Liz, and that's a scary thought
I get it Liz , I don’t like Star Trek either.
If AI minds can't be copied then how do they move to a new body?
The Roko body change explained this, their personality is on a core substrate/processor, and the body and its features are like modules of a computer. Although Moray aso insinuated she might work differently.
The transporter thing was actually addressed in next generation. There's an episode where Barclay is shown to be maintaining continuity of consciousness throughout the process because he discovers a species of alien living in the transporter beams. And I think there's an episode somewhere where it talks about taking you apart and moving all your molecules at light speed to the new location before reassembling you, but that might have been something in misremembering.
That was Mike Teavee.
i used to have a top like that. fun to feel stealth trekkie, though i don't know how stealth it actually was 😅
OK as long as it wasn't a red one!
Greg Egan mentioned! 😮
Oh the irony. Wasn't Star Trek about tolerance, an open mind and such? So while I can't imagine why anybody would NOT like Star Trek, it's none of my business if they don't. Tsk tsk.
now to travel back in time and get a Green Moray seed blob 🔄
That "Treck" in panel 3 could stand to lose a "C", lest you get in trouble here... 🙃
Or, given Liz's views on the series, changing the T to a D.
Spelling mistake in panel 4: Star Treck
Thems wording fights!
Sounds like a setup for a Moriz incident!
That's A Moriz?
And I lost a little respect for Liz (jk)
...and I gained some... (also jk)
I highly approve of sleep winning for once.
Wooo! Comic!
But was it the same Jeph who posted when he woke up?
Jeph of Theseus.
