Jeph always made it clear that she was a seriously repressed individual, and the development of her personality is going to be fascinating.
Jeph, the way this works is simple: You bring in a side character, with or without a name, simply mobile scenery, and then try to move on. Meanwhile there are 117 people trying to ship your sides and everybody is hinting that the side characters need their own arc and a backstory. In short, this wonderful comic has gotten a life of its own.

... there was a short story involving a bartender character ending up mediating a first contact situation where they had ability pills and lacking a narrow "translation" one gave him "speaking in tongues" instead... which turned out to include an entire suite of "miracles". His first test to confirm that the feds had *not* wiped his abilities was "fill a carafe with water, hold hands over it, it is now full of excellent coffee" :-)
She's actually doing it! I don't know what she's taken for English as an (nth) language, but it's certainly paying off.

The new chassis is adorable, the new wardrobe seems acceptable from what we can see here, but I want the glasses back, I want the accent back & for the love of all things good and pure she cannot be called Ashley (no offense intended to any Ashley’s present… she’s just not one).
Also not Ashlee or Ashleigh or even Aisling…
One of my go to names is “Aelle” which in old english, aka Ælle, would have been pronounced as “Ashley.” By the way, if Ukrainian Reddit and “Goldenbride” dot net are correct, the Ukrainian name similar to “Ashley” is “Sasha” and has been used for either as a boy or girl name. (I prefer ælle.)
Being overly pedantic here. Ælle would be pronounced "Allie", not Ashley. The correct spelling of Old English Ashley would be Æsclle or Æsclʒ or Æscleah. The letter Æ is called "ash", but has the sound of our modern A in Ashley. "sc" has the value of "sh". The l (L) was pronounced like L. It hasn't changed. Yogh (the weird 3 symbol, pronounced "yog") is like the gh in sight, but with more of a y sound. Thanks for an excuse to refresh my Eald Englisc.

In my mind, Ashley has a Minnesotan accent which comes surprisingly naturally.
Something tells me her voice is exactly the same, but I'm still only giving Marten 50/50 odds of actually noticing.
