Smarter Reactions to Drug and Alcohol Use
Sims now take more of the situation into account before reacting to someone else’s substance use. A spouse, for example, may be fine with their partner having a drink at a restaurant or at an appropriate time of day, even if they would object in a different setting.

The Sim doing the judging matters, too. If they’re currently under the influence of a substance themselves, they won’t turn around and react to another Sim for using one. This should make reactions feel less automatic and more consistent with what’s actually happening in your household.

Social Interactions (Drug Talk)
Click on another Sim and open the new Drug Talk pie menu. From there, choose the conversation you want them to have. The options available depend on who the Sims are and what they’ve experienced, so you won’t see every interaction with every Sim.

There are ten new conversations to try:

What Do You Know About Cannabis? lets a teen find out what another teen knows about it. Ask Friend About Cannabis and Ask Friend About Psychedelics are for hearing about a friend’s experience. A Sim who has already tried the drug won’t react as though the whole idea is new to them.

Discuss Drugs gives Sims a chance to talk about their experiences and perspectives. For less casual conversations, they can Share a Cautionary Tale, Urge Caution with Alcohol, or Warn About Mixing Drugs.

Families can Set Rules About Smoking at Home, while Sims dealing with addiction can Confide About Cravings or be asked how their recovery is going.

The conversation may go well, fall flat, or leave one or both Sims with something to think about. Watch their reactions and check their buffs afterward to see what each Sim took away from it. Those buffs won’t decide what your Sim does next, that part of the story is yours to play.

New Smoking Reactions
Have a Sim smoke a cigarette or cannabis indoors, and other Sims nearby may notice the lingering smell. Smoke can even be detected through walls, so stepping into another room doesn’t necessarily keep it a secret.

If a parent notices tobacco smoke on a teen, they may get the chance to ask “Have You Been Smoking?” Cannabis can lead to a more immediate reaction if the teen is caught while still showing signs of having smoked. What happens afterward depends on the situation, but a teen who gets caught may be lectured and sent to their room to sulk.

The smell doesn’t disappear the moment the smoking stops. It fades with time, or you can light incense or a scented candle to clear it sooner.

To make sure this mod works you need to download the updated Basemental Drugs venue list provided in this post. I recommend installing this venue list in a separate folder directly in your Mods folder called: Basemental Venue List. I also recommend updating it whenever there is a new mod version out as I constantly add in new custom venue compatibility from other mod authors.

Choose one of these 2 installation methods. Not both.

Basemental Drugs Installer (WINDOWS ONLY)

  • Delete all the old Basemental Drugs files from your Mods folder.*

  • Download this Basemental Drugs.exe file.

  • Run the Basemental Drugs.exe file.

  • Choose which Optional Packages you want included.

  • Delete your localthumbcache.package

* If you installed from the installer previously, you can delete the old files by launching the file called unins000.exe in your Basemental Drugs folder.

Basemental Drugs Zip (WINDOWS OR MAC)

  • Delete all the old Basemental Drugs files from your Mods folder.

  • Download the Basemental Drugs zip file.

  • Unzip the Basemental Drugs zip file.

  • Place the files in a folder titled Basemental Drugs in your Mods folder.

  • Delete the Basemental Drugs zip file.

  • Delete your localthumbcache.package
