Horse Racing

Pack Requirement
First things first... this part of the mod requires the Horse Ranch expansion pack to work. Horse racing takes place at the Equestrian Center in the Old Appaloosa neighborhood in Chestnut Ridge, which comes with that expansion.

How to Bet on Horses
Travel to the Equestrian Center, click on it, and select “Bet on Horses”, assuming the Center is open. It’s open between 7 AM and 7 PM.

Once it’s open and you’re ready to place a bet, your Sim will walk over to the Center, and you can choose how much money to bet.

You’ll then get a list of horses ranked from top tier to bottom tier. From there, you pick which horse you want to bet on.

Your Sim will stay inside the Equestrian Center during the race and come back out once it’s over.

Race Results
After the race, you’ll get a notification showing the top 3 horses and whether your Sim won or not.

If you bet on a lower-ranked horse and it places in the top 3, your Sim will earn more money compared to betting on a top-ranked horse that wins.

Insider Tips
There are a couple of NPCs around the neighborhood you can pay for insider tips on which horse is more likely to win.

I’m not going to say exactly who they are, that’s something you can discover yourself. What I can say is that one of them is significantly more accurate than the others, but also much more expensive.

The cheaper ones can still give good tips, they’re just wrong a tad bit more often.

Online Poker

Pack Requirement
There is no pack requirement for Online Poker. I wanted to include this so players without the Horse Ranch expansion still get a good amount of gameplay out of this version of Basemental Gambling.

Play Online Poker
Click on any computer, go to “Online Poker”, and select “Play Online Poker”.

The outcome of the game depends entirely on your Sim’s Online Poker skill level. The higher the skill, the better the chances of winning.

Online Poker Skill
You build your Online Poker skill by playing poker and using related interactions.

Here’s what you unlock at each level:

  • Level 1 – You just started playing Online Poker

  • Level 2 – Discuss poker strategies with other Sims

  • Level 3 – Browse poker forums online

  • Level 4 – Increased winning chances

  • Level 5 – Enter low stakes tournaments

  • Level 6 – Research advanced poker strategies online

  • Level 7 – Watch poker live streams online

  • Level 8 – Even higher winning chances

  • Level 9 – Enter high stakes tournaments

  • Level 10 – Unlock a trait with interactions like “Brag about poker skills”

Pretty self explanatory across the board.

Luck and Addiction

Both of these features tie into the Luck system from the Enchanted by Nature expansion and my gambling addiction system.

That means your Sim can develop a gambling addiction if they overdo it.

For luck, horse racing uses it to influence whether you win or lose. Online Poker is primarily skill-based, but luck still plays a role in how much you win when you do come out on top.

Hope you enjoy this new addition to the mod, and happy Simming!

Venue List

To make sure this mod works you need to download the updated Basemental Universal Venue list provided in this post. I recommend installing this venue list in a separate folder directly in your Mods folder called: Basemental Venue List. I also recommend updating it whenever there is a new mod version out as I constantly add in new custom venue compatibility from other mod authors.
