Lacrima: Durandal
Classification: Holy
Magic Type: Universal
<Description>
Durandal is a high-ranking Lacrima (Magic Armament), and the famed legendary sword of Roland, a paladin of Charlemagne.
Having been infused with the essence of numerous Saints, including the tooth of Saint Peter, the blood of Basil of Caesarea, the hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of Mary, Mother of Jesus, the sword is classified as one of the Holy Swords, giving it the ability to purify darkness and project holy light. Amongst the Holy Swords, Durandal is most renowned for its unparalleled physical toughness and sharpness.
As with most other Lacrima, Durandal has multiple forms that are normally sealed away, only being unlocked if the wielder fulfills the necessary conditions. Some have theorised that at its full potential, it is one of the strongest Lacrimas.
Originally, Durandal was a singular Lacrima. However, as of recently, it has begun mass-production for military use.
<Basic Form (Levels 1-4)>
Durandal: The initial form of Durandal. The sword is able to project Light and Holy Magic, and is also extremely durable.
Evolution I (Sunshine): An upper-level ability of Durandal, granted to those who can appreciate its true nature as a sword blessed by the Sun. The wielders can now use the Sunshine ability, growing exponentially stronger in the morning in all aspects (physical, spiritual and magical), before reaching their full might at high noon.
Evolution II (Divine Sun): An evolution to Sunshine, filling the power with even more Divinity. Aside from being further empowered from morning to noon, the wielder can now project more focused or wide-scale magic attacks than before.
Evolution III (Fierce Slicer): The true might of the original Durandal. Condensing the solar energy within the very micron of the blade's edge, the sword emanates an aura that allows it to slice through anything, even through space and dimensions.
<Specialisation Forms (Levels 5-12)>
Magic Path – Dragon Slayer Magic: An awakened Magic within Durandal. Grants the wielder the ability to use Dragon Slayer Magic.
Evolution I (Magic Path – Forbidden Magic): The second awakened Magic within Durandal. Grants the wielder the ability to use Forbidden Magic.
Evolution II (Magic Path – Prime Magic): The fully awakened Magic within Durandal. Grants the wielder the ability to use nearly all Magic forms, essentially granting them Prime Magic.
Evolution III (Magic Path – Light Mastery): An evolution to Durandal's original Magic. Allows the wielder to use the highest forms of Light Magic.
Weapon Form Shift – Magic Bow: A specialisation to Durandal. Evolving to transcend the shell of a sword, Durandal can now take the form of a bow that fires solar projectiles.
Evolution I (Weapon Form Shift – Staff of Freeze): A second Weapon Form Shift to Durandal. Further evolving beyond its initial power of sunlight and flames, Durandal can now take the form of a staff that specialises in freezing magic.
Evolution II (Weapon Form Shift – UESC Marathon): A third Weapon Form Shift to Durandal. Evolving beyond regular land combat, Durandal takes off to space, now taking the form of a colony ship, armed with particle beams, missiles and lasers.
Evolution III (Weapon Form Shift – Requiem Strategic Cannon): The final Weapon Form Shift to Durandal. Maximising its effectiveness in space, Durandal takes the form of a massive lunar laser cannon, able to wipe out entire colonies and space armadas in one shot.
<Awakened Forms (Levels 13-20)>
God Eater – Aquarius: A released special function of Durandal. This released function allows Durandal to absorb the power of various Ocean-themed Gods and Demons. Naturally, this subsequent assimilation will also grant the wielder the ability to manipulate ocean bodies. For beginners, the wielder first fuses Durandal with the Constellation Spirit Aquarius.
Evolution I (God Eater – Neptune): The second assimilated entity. The wielder absorbs Neptune, the Olympian God of the Oceans, the will of the ninth planet of the Solar System, and the Guardian God of Cyberspace.
Evolution II (God Eater – Leviathan): The third assimilated entity. The wielder absorbs Leviathan, the Prince of Envy, the Primordial Beast of Darkness, and personification of the Narrative Stack.
Evolution III (God Eater – Abyss): The fourth assimilated entity. The wielder absorbs Abyss, the personification of the dark void, prison of the Gods, and the pit of torment of all philosophers.
Weapon Eater – Ichaival and Gungnir: A released special function of Durandal. This released function allows Durandal to synchronise and fuse with other Mythical Weapons, amplifying both of their power beyond what they can output individually. For beginners, the wielder first learns to fuse Durandal with Ichaival and Gungnir, the bow and spear of Odin. Bestows Durandal with Ichaival's power of endless firearm generation, and Gungnir's control over reality and magic.
Evolution I (Weapon Eater – Ame-no-Habakiri): The second (technically third) fused weapon, one of the swords of Susano'o. Bestows Durandal with Ame-no-Habakiri's power of endless blade generation and electrokinesis.
Evolution II (Weapon Eater – Excalibur): The third (technically fourth) fused weapon, the famed sword of King Arthur (or more precisely the magic currently projecting it). Bestows Durandal with Excalibur's vast magic abilities.
Evolution III (Weapon Eater – Incursio): The fourth (technically fifth) fused "weapon", the armour holding the spirit of the Tyrant Dragon. Bestows Durandal with Incursio's ability to continually adapt and bolster its power.
