Even if we all like to believe that we truly own our own life and decisions - and this is true, at least to an extent - there are many powerful entities out there, shaping and influencing the world and every single one of us. You might not agree with their teachings or actions, but you can't deny their existence and influence. They have been here long before any of us, and they will be here long after all of us are gone. The Greater Deities are an advancement to the normal Deities. Specifically, they are the second stage of evolution to the Great Deities, with Great Deities able to ascend into one after sufficient trials and tribulations.
These Greater Deities represent concepts typically universal across the races such as protection or magic, and their worship is nearly ubiquitous, with an influence extending beyond their strict sphere of influence to include mortals who follow their ideals, regardless of whether or not they actively worship them, contrasting Lesser Deities who only have power over those who worship them.
These Greater Deities make up the Upper Chamber of the Celestial Court, and mainly help in creating the physical aspects for many worlds. They possess phenomenal influence over their aspects, and can grant a small portion of their power to mortal followers, should they prove worthy. To many, the gods seem distant and fickle, but religious orders teach their members prayers and rituals devised to attract a deity’s attention.
Scholars believe that each Greater God was once a simple spirit, given strength by the worship of mortals. During the Time Of Waking Gods, they eventually rose to defend their adopted children from the grand Demonic Invasion, but in repelling the demon hordes, greatly depleted their power. Currently, they are retired to their newly formed Divine Holds, to await the summons of their priests.
