Anyone else spot Ron Jeremy as a background extra outside the police station near the beginning?
Pour one out for The Record Theatre https://youtu.be/IhadjRu6cXw?si=44bUGYgvu9jHamK2
In the 80s we used to end movies with president assassination attempts
My dad has that planet of the apes trash can in his home office
Jack Sholder's Alone in the Dark is a great underseen slasher, would be fun for Octooky. Fun Jack Palance casting in that one
Buy or rent this on dvd if you have a chance. The commentary track is a hoot.
Re: Larry Cedar (of Deadwood) A long time ago probably around 2008 I was in a short film that his daughter directed when she was at NYU. He was in it, but on the day I had no idea who he was, he was just Larry and he was playing the director of a scene I was in as a sort of play-within-a-play thing. I did learn that our director on the film was his daughter and that he was an experienced actor, but on that day just being one of the group of actors on the shoot (and also, I could tell, at times proudly watching her work but otherwise just staying out of the way and being great whenever they needed him.) She was very talented as well, I believe she became a production designer, and her short was really visually inventive in ways you didn't appreciate on the day. Anyway long story long, he couldn't have been nicer, on this set surrounded by those of us who were much younger and actually auditioning for things like student films rather than doing someone a favor. But the thing that really stuck with me: During some downtime he struck up a conversation with what people had seen lately they really enjoyed, etc. I remember he had just seen and enjoyed Taken, which is why I think this was 2008, and (accurately) predicted that Neeson was going to kick off a whole genre of action/ revenge movie that are supposed to appeal to the generation that are now parents. Sort of a return of dad movies. When I took a turn to talk about what I had been loving lately, it was that we were watching (on DVD, I guess) Deadwood. Of all things. And I'm sure I blabbed on about it, having no idea. He never even hinted nor made me feel like I had stepped in it. I guess no one else in the conversation knew either (this was pre-iPhone for most, we had not looked him up). I do remember that he found a way of sharing something insightful he had HEARD about Milch's process and why that show was so good, etc. Again, not setting me up to look or feel worse for not knowing I was talking to someone from that show. Just keeping the conversation going. I don't think he turned the conversation towards anything he had been in, didn't drop any names or tell any stories. Just stayed pretend equals to the other actors there that day and passed the time talking about things in common, like what you have been watching and enjoying. I think I was able to look up who he was when I got home that night and realized. But that was the only shooting day. (Which probably saved him from a me trying to bend his ear the next day, if there had been one). Anyway. Long story long, but that always stuck with me, that small kindness on his part. And of course on a Deadwood rewatch years later, it was cool to now know to look for him. PS- And because he plays the Creature on the wing in Twilight Zone The Movie, that means you can get from me to Vic Morrow in two steps. If you count student films, and actors that don't appear in the same parts of an anthology. Which no one does. But I will.
I have yet to watch Deadwood but Larry Cedar from Square One, a kids show from before my time that was rerunned sometimes on PBS.
what do you think is a better scene of someone getting blown back, the lab technician by the alien or marty mcfly by the doc’s speakers?
Anyone else clock that the police car barricade at the beginning of the movie was shot on the same block as They Live? Big white church is unmistakable
Re-do Bloodsport, cowards
Re-do Bloodflart.
I kept thinking of chris Sarandon when seeing the main guy, then Rodgers shouted him out! The boys have been on a hot-streak of great movies, where I'm genuinely glad I watched the movie. Hey speaking of aliens... am I nuts or is Disclosure Day a giant stinky doo-doo pile? What a bad movie. ayayay
All my friends said it sucked but Blank Check liked it so it must be good
I got a tin ET trashcan and matching TV tray for Christmas from some relative I can’t recall.
Wonder if the lime green outlined title card subconsciously inspired David Lynch for the Twin Peaks title card. I bet he watched this to support Kyle
Important note for the action boys: you can buy a 20 dollar digital antenna and then you get all of the broadcast channels ABC NBC CBS etc.. for free over the air
ABZ have not done Summer School yet, but you certainly should.
Shadow Wolves from June 2021
Can I work at the ABZ physical media store?
EAT THE CHEESEBURGER, ASTRO BOY! EAT THE CHEESEBURGER, ASTRO BOY!
Say I'm yo mama.
Gem of a film. Gem of an ep.
Clubber’s roommate Jason is still on the Mount Rushmore of ABZ
“Be respectful fool, Jason works nights”
100% the 'show on Netflix' Ben's aunt or whoever said she saw him and his friends in was the Workaholics podcast right? That's on Netflix now?
Crackedstreams.ms for sports streaming if any of the actionboyz want 1-5 less streaming services
Chris Mulkey also in Twin Peaks.. Hank was a Bookhouse Boy, he was the best of us
Rogers, you should call your aunt. She doing alright?
File this under who gives a shit, but it was too weird for me not to mention… Five minutes before they started talking about trash cans I was on eBay looking for the 3’ New York Yankees metal trashcan I had when I was a kid.
I owned a Florida State metal trash can when I was growing up. Showed the power of FSU at the time because I was in the midwest.
oh I GOTTA see this trash can
Great hearing Stanger shout out Concrete Blonde. Fantastic band!
1000 watt smile from this guy when Gabrus talked about the Clubber Lang apartment bit. To this day the hardest I’ve ever laughed at the show, I had to brace myself against a tree to catch my breath. A true ABZ HOF bit.
The first memory that popped in my head is how Jason works as a valet
Gabrus is turning into Porno Sean from the Guys pod but instead he's collecting vhs tapes
I just did a rewatch of Freaks And Geeks last week, so seeing Bill's mom as an alien-possessed stripper that goes down in a hail of bullets was a helluva time.
Picturing Sam and Neal finding this movie
Holy shit! Haven't thought of this movie in decades. What a great choice. Home run Action Boyz!
Love this movie. Was just a little annoyed that the Boyz seemingly didn’t understand the ending. Or maybe I interpreted that wrong. Gallagher transfers his alien self into Beck. Beck is dead and now Gallagher will pretend to be Beck for the rest of his life. He gets his family back in a way. The daughter is the only one who knows the truth. 🤷♂️
This director also did Wishmaster 2 which reminded me how much I hope ABZ covers Wishmaster someday
The Wishmaster out of makup looks like Sting the wrestler out of makeup. That's all i remember about wishmaster
When I watched the ending I fully assumed that the alien would be puppeting the dead detective's body (tricking the family indefinitely) as a posthumous favor to him.
If this movie were made today it would be a 10 episode Apple+ series starring Mark Ruffalo and Kate Winslet that falls off by the third episode and never recovers
The Alien is better at handling a Ferrari than Charles Leclerc.
So nice to hear about Clubber and Jason again. One of my all time favorite bits!
My 15 year old was kinda in and out throughout the movie, but he popped back in during the later jail scene. After just a second of obscured screen time through prison bars and one brief line, he shouted out, “Danny Trejo!” Gentlemen: The next generation of ABZ is alive and well.
Thank you, I think I’ve been asking for this movie since about year, one or two of the pod on my old membership!!
Love this movie. It basically anticipated Grand Theft Auto rampages by about fifteen years or so. Plus, it has a fist-pumping example of Chekhov's Flamethrower.
I watched this like a year ago cause someone here in the comments suggested it, movie rips shit.
This movie is amazing but my two favorite things are: Ferrari coke holder, and William Boyett’s performance!
lol the cut to the Ferrari dealer and the rich jerk just doing coke in his office was so good.
*loved* michael nouri's naturalism in this. hated the editing. i rarely notice editing, and if i do it is likely a bad sign
A true love letter to awkward pauses, scenes that go on for a couple seconds too long, and bad editing.
Hell yes. One of my all time favorite movies growing up Been waiting years for this.
This movie goes so hard from the start, and it basically just shouts THE ALIEN SLUG HOPS BODIES AND IT LOVES GUNS FAST CARS AND ROCK & ROLL, ARE YOU IN?! at the audience in passing. And sometimes that's all you need. I loved this so much, one of my favorite movies I watched for ABZ in a while.
Finally! Been waiting over a year for this. Thank you
Wandering around Japan 🇯🇵 and thought I saw Ben hanging out with the yakuza bosses… talking in perfect English! Bonsai!!!
Oh man I just got a double VHS of this as a housewarming gift. It was a blast to rewatch. I kept thinking about how it was the perfect movie for you guys.
What's on the other VHS?
How weird would it be if Trump suddenly collapsed during a press conference and a gigantic slug crawled out of his mouth? MAGA folks would still say, “He’s still my president. I’d still vote for him. Let him lead.”
“I want to be President”.
I liked Concrete Blonde. Now I love Concrete Blonde.
Concrete. Blonde. Sleazy.
