πŸŽ“ [S4S] Age & Gender Flags (PartFlags) -- [5/24-5] ⚑ "Table of Catents" added. -- How it look? 😺

πŸ“– BACK [🌐] to "Outfit Type, etc." β€” FORWARD [🌐] to "Age Appropriate"

⚠️ These posts will be re-dated so that they appear in order in the Collection.

πŸŽ™οΈ Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto, for doing the jobs that nobody wants to!

β€”

This post covers the "PARTFLAGS" found in:

  • STUDIO (tab) Β» CATEGORIES (tab) Β» "Age & Gender Flags"

These PartFlags are important.

There currently isn't a "GENDER FLAGS AND MESHES" section because, uh... GENDER flags aren't used "like that" with meshes. I'll make a section for it if I can concoct something coherent and meaningful to say.

β˜†// - WHEN TO USE THESE PARTFLAGS:

AGE:

  • Always add the appropriate flag to every CAS item.

  • If the item has an age-specific mesh, then the flag should match the mesh.

  • If the item has no mesh, then it might be compatible with all age groups so all flags can be selected, e.g. "Makeup" and "Tattoos" are usually compatible with all age groups.

  • This can be used to restrict items to Teen only, Young Adult only, Adult only, or Elder only, but you shouldn't do this unless... no, there's never a reason to do this. Don't do it. Age group randomization is controlled by the AGE APPROPRIATE tags.

GENDER:

  • You need at least one of these on your CAS item for it to work properly.

  • If the item has a gender-specific mesh, then the flag should match the mesh.

  • If the item has no mesh or a unisex mesh, then you can use either flag or you can use both flags.

β˜†// - HOW THEY RELATE TO RANDOMIZATION:

I do not believe AGE flags are connected to randomization because age group randomization is controlled by the AGE APPROPRIATE tag. I think AGE is just accessibility.

β€”

If ALLOW FOR RANDOM is enabled and at least one of each of the following flags and tags are used together, then randomization will be enabled for all sims who match the profile:

  • Gender (from Age & Gender Flags) - YOU ARE HERE

  • Age Appropriate

  • Fashion Choice

  • Occult

  • Outfit Type

Example, randomization will be enabled for the SWIMWEAR outfit category on all FEMALE sims of TEEN age who use the FEMININE "Clothing Preference" and are HUMAN occult:

  • Age (from Age & Gender Flags) - Adult + Elder + Teen + Young Adult

  • Gender (from Age & Gender Flags) - Female

  • Age Appropriate - Teen

  • Fashion Choice - Feminine

  • Occult - Human

  • Outfit Type - Swimwear

β˜†// - WHAT IT DO:

AGE flags might not be connected to randomization. More testing is required.

AGE flags define which age groups an item is available to in CAS.

  • Adult, Elder, Teen, Young Adult - These ages use the same body mesh.

  • Child

  • Toddler

  • Infant

GENDER flags are connected to randomization.

GENDER flags do not define which "gender" an item is available to in CAS - at least not on their own.

  • Female

  • Male

β˜†// - AGE FLAGS AND MESHES:

If an item has an age-specific mesh, then the AGE flag must match the mesh:

  • "Adult, etc." mesh = "Adult", "Elder", "Teen", "Young Adult" flag

  • "Child" mesh = "Child" flag

  • "Toddler" mesh = "Toddler" flag

  • "Infant" mesh = "Infant" flag

Items that often or always contain age-specific meshes include:

  • Accessories - Bracelets a.k.a Wrist (all sub-categories)

  • Accessories - Earring, Glasses, Necklace

  • Accessories - Piercings; Brow Ring, Lip Ring, Nose Ring

  • Accessories - Rings (all sub-categories)

  • Accessories - Socks (if it contains a mesh - sometimes doesn't)

  • Accessories - Tights (if it contains a mesh - sometimes doesn't)

  • Back Attachment

  • Clothing Body a.k.a. Full Body

  • Clothing Bottom

  • Clothing Top

  • Eye Color (if it contains a mesh - sometimes doesn't)

  • Eyebrows (if it contains a mesh - most times doesn't)

  • Eyelashes

  • Face a.k.a. Teeth

  • Facial Hair (if it contains a mesh - sometimes doesn't)

  • Fingernail

  • Hat

  • Hair

  • Shoes (including bare feet)

  • Toenail (if it contains a mesh - sometimes doesn't)

Items that do not contain a mesh can be flagged for all age groups, including:

  • Accessories - Gloves

  • Accessories - Socks (only if it doesn't contain a mesh)

  • Accessories - Tights (only if it doesn't contain a mesh)

  • Body Hair (all sub-categories)

  • Eye Color (only if it doesn't contain a mesh)

  • Eyebrows (most times doesn't contain a mesh)

  • Facial Hair (only if it doesn't contain a mesh)

  • Makeup - Eye Shadow, Eyeliner, Lipstick, Blush, and Face Paint

  • Skin Detail - Acne, Dimples, Forearm Scar, Forehead, Freckles, Freckles Body, Mole Cheek, Mole Lip, Mouth Crease

  • Skin Detail - Birthmark (all sub-categories)

  • Skin Detail - Body Scar (all sub-categories)

  • Skin Detail - Mole (all sub-categories)

  • Skin Detail - Occult - Birthmark, Brow, Cheek, Eye Lid, Eye Socket, Mouth, Neck Scar

  • Skin Detail - Scar (all sub-categories)

  • Skin Detail - Stretch Marks

  • Skin Overlay

  • Tattoos (all sub-categories)

  • Toenail (only if it doesn't contain a mesh)

β˜†// - MAKEUP, SOCKS, TIGHTS AND MESHES:

Have you ever opened a bunch of EAxis items from one of these categories and noticed that some of them have meshes but others don't? Some of these EAxis items include a tiny triangular mesh that is often located inside the head.

I have not done the required testing to verify but the mesh might exist for some LOD purpose. It's possible that items in these categories that have no mesh will "disappear" when zoomed out very far or maybe items that have just the LOD 0 mesh will "disappear" when zoomed out very far.

Shirley EAxis did this for a reason and they didn't just !@#$ up half of these items by adding or not adding meshes to them, right?

I could be mistaken, but I think creators who doxx their supporters do something similar with a texture of the patron's name hidden somewhere inside the mesh, or something to that effect. They could also just use a custom TAG. I should download something from one of these creators and see what exactly they do.

β˜†// - GENDER FLAGS AND GENDER RESTRICTION:

To restrict an item to one "gender" or the other, the GENDER flag must be paired with a RESTRICT OPPOSITE flag:

  • Restrict Opposite Frame - If you must restrict an item, use this with a GENDER flag, however, there are many item categories that do not require any form of "hard" restriction.

  • Restrict Opposite Gender - There are rare cases when this flag is required, but most of the time, 99.9% of the time, it should not be used.

RESTRICT OPPOSITE flags have their own post. - JUMP [🌐] to "Part Flags"

β˜†// - "HARD" V. "SOFT" RESTRICTION:

Since I mentioned it above, I might as well define it.

"Hard restriction" uses a RESTRICT OPPOSITE flag with a GENDER flag. This will always prevent the other "gender" from seeing or accessing the item. This is only required on some item categories.

"Soft restriction" uses proper GENDER flags and FASHION CHOICE tags to restrict an item to a "Fashion Choice" filter. This allows both "genders" and all "Physical Frame" combinations to see and access the item by simply switching the "Fashion Choice" filter in CAS. There are some item categories that this should not be used with.

This is explained in greater depth in the "Part Flags" post linked above.

β˜†// - DISCLAIMER + PROGRESSION:

I do not work for EAxis and I am not a member of the S4S developer team.

I am not an expert and there are gaps in my knowledge.

But I have devoted a considerable amount of time trying to understand these PartFlags and Tags because I mean to fix the mess EAxis has created in CAS with my "CAS Overrides" project - every Pack, every Kit, every item in the BASE GAME. EAxis CAS is an incompetent mess and fixing the majority of it is as simple as checking or unchecking a box.

Some of this is straightforward.

Some of this you might already know.

Some of this might go against what you believe to be true or correct.

If you think (or know) that something I've said is incorrect, then comment and let me know and we can compare notes. If I am wrong or if we discover something new, then I will update the post accordingly.

I don't bite unless biting is the necessary response.
