๐Ÿฆ„ Thanks to "Guided Access", I now have a functioning "monitor" that isn't driving me crazy!

So... one of my "hurdles" is that I don't have a monitor for my computer and I'm forced to use a 12.9 inch iPad as a monitor with Steam Link. #ThankGaben for Steam and Steam Link.

โ€”

2023 I endured a home invasion. Some of my electronics were stolen, all the money I was saving was stolen, and my 2018 iPad Pro that I bought to use for work was damaged somehow, but I didn't realize it at the time.

2024 I had to move back in with my toxic narcissist parent and their... actions... led to my cat accidentally toppling over my 32 inch monitor and !@#$ing it up beyond repair.

Since then I've been Steam Linked, but whatever damage my iPad sustained in the home invasion resulted in the touch sensor constantly spazzing out.

Some time ago I turned on the accessibility setting that adds a touch delay and the touch sensor is reacting to anywhere between (6) to (20+) touch points on the screen at any given time.

It's bad enough that I'm short-sighted and need to wear glasses but can't for long periods with a screen this small, but piling on the constant spazzing out... <SIGHS> It has been unbearable having to deal with this and the internet issue and my toxic narcissist parent for the past year.

This isn't the first time I've thought that there must be a way to disable touch on an iPad, but this is the first time I searched the correct terms.

"Guided Access"! Catdamn!

One less frustration! Holy !@#$!

The spazzy screen is legitimately more frustrating than the internet issue because I can still do stuff when the internet is down...

As I type these words, it is registering that my screen isn't spazzing out and opening the Steam Link menu, or the touch keyboard, or locking the screen, or minimizing Steam Link and opening (10) different !@#$ing apps! HOLY !@#$!

THANK YOU APPLE! I STILL HATE YOU AS A COMPANY AND YOUR CEO IS A PIECE OF !@#$, BUT "GUIDED ACCESS" IS THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD! ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜ธ

The 12.9 inch screen is still an issue but y'all don't know how much that spazzy nonsense has interfered with me getting anything done and discouraged me from doing anything due to the sheer frustration it causes.

I'm taking a break.

The internet was dead for a few hours but I need a minute to digest this newfound serenity.

โ˜†// - HOW TO USE GUIDED ACCESS:

Here are the instructions from Apple - https://support.apple.com/en-us/111795

One thing though, in the "Options" menu, you want to "uncheck" the "Touch" option. If you don't, you'll end up with a gray overlay on your "Guided Access" area.

I don't quite understand the "Touch" option because touch seems to be disabled whether it's "checked" or "unchecked". Who knows!

Cheers!
