🦄 Tumblr is probably the worst for modding, from my limited experience. -- ⚡ California love! Wee-u-wee-u-wee-u! I expanded my "NexusMods" section just a smidge. You gon' love it.
I've seen a lot of creator accounts on Tumblr thanks to the work I'm doing on my Custom Filters mod. I just came across a "goodbye" post from a beloved creator.
Here's a snippet from it:
#2 - TS4 is Super Broken:
It becomes really frustrating when every new patch EA comes out with means that people have to come to your inbox to let you know that your stuff is broken. I don’t make mods, so I always foolishly assumed my stuff wouldn’t break. But then it did. And again. And again. And AGAIN. I can’t be active enough to stay on top of it anymore. And a lot of the time I straight up don’t know WHY my stuff doesn’t work, so I don’t know how to even approach fixing it.
Then there’s the issue of having to post the update, hope people see it, and try to find a way to lead people who stumble across my blog from a youtube video or blog post that’s several years old to the most up-to-date version. Its too confusing for them and for me and I kind of hate having more than one post for the same item.
Might I suggest, if you're a Tumblr creator and you're feeling that second paragraph, and you don't want to sell your soul to ModCo, sacrifice your integrity to CurseForge, join the queue for Mod The Sims, or - I dunno what to quip about - The Sims Resource, just join Patreon.
It's not perfect here, but you can forward date your posts and ping your "followers". Accounts are free and you can configure your posts so that no one even needs an account to download your mods or read your posts, like I do.
Alternatively, join NexusMods.
⋆⋅ THE PROBLEM WITH TUMBLR:
Is the re-blog system.
It does not update re-blogged posts when those posts are edited.
It's a recipe for dead links and outdated information.
It forced me to stop sharing direct download links in my Tumblr posts, and instead link to my Patreon posts. It also forced me to add a note at the top of my posts just to cover my arse:
☠️ REMINDER: Double-check the OP for updates!
And even with that at the top of every post, Tumblr denizens still re-blog the "old" posts that were re-blogged by other Tumblr denizens instead of double-checking and re-blogging the changed OP.
It's quite frustrating, but c'est la vie.
Its too confusing for them and for me and I kind of hate having more than one post for the same item.
It's the reason I will never again do multiple posts for updates to the same mod, and it's the reason TMEX's Patreon is so frustrating to navigate (prior to them finally adding a note with links to their website to their posts - you're welcome for that).
Simply put, multiple posts for updates is messy and confusing as !@#$.
⋆⋅ ANIMOSITY TOWARDS PATREON CREATORS:
I don't fully understand the animosity our community has towards creators on Patreon. It even goes so deep that some creators appear to be afraid to create a Patreon account.
Did Patreon do something that I don't know about?
They've done a lot, Shirley, but nothing that should result in animosity towards the creators on the platform.
If the issue is the Early Access abuse, look no further than TSR and ModCo. If the issue is perma-paywalls, well, that one is a creator thing. If the issue is the doxxing, then be real, because doxxing can happen anywhere.
⋆⋅ WHAT'S WRONG WITH NEXUSMODS:
I was made aware that some folks have an issue with NexusMods because "He Who Shall Not Be Named" was/is still allowed to share their mods there?
I haven't even verified that they're still on NexusMods, but you should know that if that's the issue, the other mods out there that enable "that !@#$" are made for WW.
Are you going to stop using WW now that you know "those mods" are made for WW?
Furthermore, if "He Who Shall Not Be Named" shared an offensive mod on NexusMods and users reported it, I assume the staff would remove it and ban "Him", because they have taken action against other mods of similar nature in other cases, when they're made aware of it.
⚡ Ask yourself this question, if TURBOTASTIC could modify WW in such a way to... what was it, detect if that other mod was installed and crash the game(?), why did they never do it for the other mods that are "patching" WW to enable those interactions right now? Is it because doing so would cause a bigger concern about privacy? Have we entered uncomfortable discussion territory? Yeah, maybe, but if we had these uncomfortable discussions at the time when all of this transpired, maybe somewhere along the way we might have acknowledged the potential danger with PYTHON, and maybe we would have been better prepared for our first TS4SCRIPT malware incident.
⚡ F.Y.I. This is not in defense of "He Who Shall Not Be Named". This is in defense of NexusMods as a valid alternative to Patreon. We could totally get into why CurseForge is worse from an ethical position.
⋆⋅ MAYBE I'M JUST WEIRD:
I know I am. Is fine. I'm me. 👽
Anyway, I'm hungry. Noms, then back to work!

Damn I wish I could find who this person was because I was one of those people who used those mods that everyone likes to talk shit about but these ppl fail to actually understand how that mod works in concept. I didn't use the other stuff that was highly offensive or wrong but I did use it for other gameplay. Not everything is offensive when it's your kink and a legal one as well. This topic could go further but as a female I loved using this for my more dominant men and I'll leave it at that. Also people forget Turbo was part of it at one point so um yeah they are absolutely right about if they felt that strongly they wouldn't use WW. Anyways I wish I knew who this was because they are right that fkn Tumblr sucks even for accessibility, curseforge was promoting war or supporting the wrong side of it, Sims Resource another joke, mod co lmao fuck them too, honestly they all have some subscription bullshit. Technically I can dislike the creators who use it and the sites who also promote it so that part eh kind agree kind of disagree. Anyways sucks they left. Idk I hate patreon they suck at finding certain posts or posts that were in fact published in that month but for some reason you select the filter for that month and it doesn't show then if you fkn type the one word oh look there it is. It's fucking stupid so I think all the sites suck lol. People forget that other games don't permit this early access bullshit to mods and many will be heavily targeted for it by fans if they did. It's weird Sims is excluded from that opinion not to mention they use a lot of EA's stuff. Now I'm not saying we can't donate to ppl but locking and asking for a 10 dollar min subscription to get access to an early access mod is fkn wild to me. No one asked them to make them this their job. Like I said all for donations but for early access nah I'm not and because of that I am a rebel and more 💯😜❤️ You however even if we disagree on something you're one of the few I genuinely respect as a person. I'm glad we can have discussion even after disagreeing and still respect you. You're so fkn legit I went to subscribe to donate for a month and realized you didn't have one and I was like holy shit this girl is legit like you really don't care about money. Anyways I might have to make a new patreon because one creator fkn blocked me and another is deliberately ignoring my comments after the pos deleted my other comment intentionally because idk maybe I called him out on something that his lovely fans are also kissing his ass. I'm sorry but I really can't stand all this ass kissing people do for their creators. So might have to use my other account because I don't want to be targeted it here and it's just wild to me.
I'm responding to things a bit out of order because I just woke up. Sorry. 😹 ─ "I went to subscribe to donate for a month and realized you didn't have one and I was like holy shit this girl is legit like you really don't care about money." What?! Wait! GIF ME DA MONEYS! 😹 I don't not care about money. I don't have subscription tiers because only (2) banks in my country support any type of service like Patreon and I have to jump through a bunch of hoops, not just with the bank. Right now I am not employed, so if I had regular Patrons I could at least sort out the internet woes and eliminate some other "SKULLS" (💀). The SKULL (💀) on my "Announcements" post is a status indicator. It means I can go M.I.A. at any time due to "technical difficulties". Before those "technical difficulties" manifested, there was a kitty face emoji there to signify that all was good. It ain't been a kitty face emoji for a while. The thing is though, for me to paywall something, it would have to be something I think is really groundbreaking, but something that's I also don't consider "critical", e.g. I consider my SGFX Overrides and Patches that remove UI effects "critical" because it's a health and well-being thing for some folks, so I'd never put them behind any kind of paywall even if I had subscriptions. ─ "Anyways I might have to make a new patreon because [...]" Just know that if you delete your old Patreon account, all of your old comments are automatically deleted. I will backup your Community comments because even though I haven't gotten around to addressing all of your questions, they're really good questions and I want to address them. If you intend to make a new Patreon to use Elsweyr and keep using this one here then that's fine. We won't have to worry about comments disappearing. ─ "So might have to use my other account because I don't want to be targeted it here and it's just wild to me." Yeah... That's unfortunately how a fair number of people in the community behaves. Everyone got all upset about those creators who were doxxing their Patrons and passing around names, but a fair number of people in the community appear to be one step away from doing the same kinda thing. It's the reason why when I posted that long, scathing rant directed at the modding community and members of [X], that I prefaced it by telling folks not to comment on the post even in agreement. I'm already me. I know the consequences of the things I "say" and do. You're welcomed to live vicariously through me when I go on a rant without publicly agreeing with anything I say. There's also never a need to defend me or my actions to anyone. If I can't rationally defend my own actions, then I've really !@#$ed up. I put a lot of thought into my rants. I don't do them on a whim, and I try to never be irrational. Which is why I never delete any of them. That doesn't mean that I'm above being corrected or put in my place if I completely lost the plot. This is also part of the reason why I'm so transparent with everything I do, like with "My Beautiful Squishy". I never want to be in a position where I feel like I'm misleading anyone or where someone else has to reveal to any of you that "Sejian didn't even ask permission to rebuild that mod!" or "Sejian was asked not to do that and they didn't listen!" like with my SGFX Patch for More Traits in CAS. Whether or not my justifications for why I cross some lines are valid, you don't have to wait to hear it through the grapevine, because I'll tell you myself that I did something that I maybe shouldn't have done, or that I was expressly asked not to do. That doesn't make my actions right or defensible, it just means it won't be a surprise to you when someone else tells you about it. ─ "I hate patreon they suck at finding certain posts or posts that were in fact published in that month but for some reason you select the filter for that month and it doesn't show then if you fkn type the one word oh look there it is." Patreon's tags/filters are kinda hopeless. Patreon is not really made for this kinda thing. Collections are the most useful thing Patreon has done and then they went and complicated it with pointless new features. I assume those new features benefit mobile users since Patreon's changes usually seem to be directed at mobile users. ─ "I loved using this for my more dominant men and I'll leave it at that." Mhm, "more dominant men". *hint* *hint* *wink* *wink* 😹 ─ "People forget that other games don't permit this early access bullshit to mods and many will be heavily targeted for it by fans if they did. It's weird Sims is excluded from that opinion not to mention they use a lot of EA's stuff." The only thing I'd argue is that folks sometimes stick to their corner of the watering hole and don't venture out, so they may not know about "the great beyond". I understand it, but also, it can be disastrous. If I remember correctly, about (6) months before we were targeted with malware, the Minecraft community on CurseForge was hit was a massive malware attack that infected numerous people. But instead of it being a cautionary tale, some folks saw it as "Well that's Minecraft! Our mods are different! We have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to worry about!". Nothing at all! No siree! Now every few months someone is trying to infect all of us with darkweb malware. 😹😿😾👹 ─ "I'm glad we can have discussion even after disagreeing" We've had disagreements?! 😹 I only feel like I've ever had disagreements with one individual and that was the individual who came from [X] to tell me about what I was told that I could and couldn't do, and the only reason I banned them was because they attacked the other person who joined the discussion and replied to them calmly (unless I missed an obvious insult or attack). Had they been able to "shift gears" and respond to that person calmly while continuing to have heated disagreements with me, we'd probably still be at it. If the other person had entered the discussion with "an attitude" and directed it at the person I was disagreeing with, I myself would have told them to back off. I'm not going to encourage or foster that mentality where just because you like what I'm doing, we all gang up on anyone who criticizes me... unless it's like a super duper irrational criticism like something about 🐌 or 🐸, or 🍍 on 🍕, I dunno! 😹 Everything else has just been discussions to me. I wonder if anyone else feels like I've had disagreements with them? 🙀 Unless you mean about you deleting questions because you think you're bothering me. If so then yes, we have all the disagreements and all the 🥩 and all the 🦴!!!!!!11111 😹 ─ Did you perhaps get into a heated discussion with someone over me or one of my mods? 🐱
It's so sad whenever I see one of those goodbye posts too. 😭 Especially when they speak truths like that, both about the game and the community. I've been wondering lately if TS4 modding is at a crossroads of sorts because of the combination of constant game-breaking bugs, EA's perceived ambivalence to said bugs at times, EA's money-hungry-focused content releases/events, all the malware scares, the ever "creative" paywalling of content, disappearing creators (no judgement, it's rough out there), the cancellation(??) of TS5, and maybe even just the sheer amount of mods and CC that are available at this point. Probably missing many more potential reasons. I wish the game was less frustrating to play. I don't think I've actually truly played for longer than maybe an hour over the last 2 years (since I picked it back up after an even longer break). I've just been playing "mod the sims" (heh) for that whole time, spending probably too much time rotating out tons of different mods trying to find The Perfect Combination that I feel comfortable with. Does that "perfection" exist? Probably not, but don't tell my burnt out brain that, lmao. I used to play the game with just MCCC I think, HAHA, those were the days. Now my brain just wants to shuffle files around now and hope for the best it seems. 😂🫠
I know the feeling. Even before I really started modding, I couldn't play more than a couple hours max before the frustration piled on and I scraped all my "progress" and restarted my save. After I started modding it became -ENCOUNTERS GLITCH- "!@#$ this !@#$" -EXIT WITHOUT SAVING- "I can fix it." -RESUME SAVE AND ENCOUNTER ANOTHER GLITCH OR ANNOYANCE- "!@#$ this !@#$" -EXIT WITHOUT SAVING- "I can fix it!" and the cycle repeats. Fast-forward to today and the only significant amount of time I've played since February 2024 has been on the last day of each Live Event in order to complete it, then it's back to "!@#$ DIS !@#$, I WILL TEAR APART THIS WRETCHED GAME TIL I FIX EVERY STUPID AND/OR BROKEN THING!" It wasn't like this with Sims 2. I use to build and decorate and play pre-made households. The Greenman family was my favorite. As you can imagine, I was extremely disappointed when I found out PlantSims are temporary states in Sims 4. I know there are mods for this, but one of these fine days I will poke around and maybe do my own. As for the oversaturation of both mods and bugs? I agree. As for the malware? We continue to half-arse the response to every malware incident. I don't think we even know what exactly happened this time - if SFS was compromised or something else - not that we ever found out what happened with MTS the last time. Not to mention that everyone can do banners for all types of !@#$ except to notify folks about !@#$ that can ruin their lives. It shows where everyone's priorities are. Credit where it's due, at least the latest malware incident has been re-blogged all over Tumblr. INB4 I get invited to join ModCo and I go FullExclusive for all the business partners who totes exist and are all real people!!!11 😹
Oh my gods! I borrow the term "He Who Shall Not Be Named" it's wonderful 🤣❤️ And as for the rest of the post I can't relate (I don't like tumblr so I don't use it), I completely agree with this last paragraph. People are completely unaware of the dangers that lurk on the internet, where (please don't eat me) no matter how horrible a Sims mod is, it's still just a Sims mod.
