🎁 [EP08] Mobility Assistance Platform - It helps to have a M.A.P!

UPDATE 10/22/2024 BROKE AUTOMATIC OUTFIT SWITCHING, BREAKING THE FUNCTIONS THAT AUTOMATICALLY REMOVE M.A.P. WHEN BATHING, SLEEPING AND SWIMMING. There's nothing I can do to fix this. Learn more here - https://.../posts/117488610

I've pilfered EP08 Discover University's labs and cobbled together the bits to bring you the Mobility Assistance Platform. I can't give you fully functioning wheelchairs yet, but I can do this! I had a lot of fun building this.

I'll do something for Base Game SOONβ„’.

ARE YOU HAPPY? ARE YOU SATISFIED?

All M.A.P.s require XML Injector for the custom interactions to even appear in-game. XML Injector is required by many, many third-party mods. You should always have it installed and always keep it updated.

This M.A.P. requires EP08 Discover University. If you do not have EP08 installed, this M.A.P. will not work.

HOW LONG CAN YOU STAND THE HEAT?

πŸ”„ Compatibility - βœ”οΈ - Unless EAxis messes up the Mechanical Suit's PartFlags or breaks XML Injector, this should never need compatibility updates.

πŸ”— Requires XML INJECTOR

βš”οΈ Requires The Sims 4: DISCOVER UNIVERSITY

β˜„οΈ Updated - NIL

πŸš€ Initial Release - 11/11/2024

βš™οΈ These are ZIP archives. πŸ—‚οΈ Windows Explorer on Windows and 🎭 Finder on Mac can open/extract these. Place the extracted folder/files into your Mods folder.

HEY, I'M GONNA GET YOU TOO!

M.A.P. uses 1️⃣ the EP08 Mechanical Suit along with 2️⃣ a custom "Default" walk style and 3️⃣ a customized "Hover Mode" walk style to achieve perfection. I also included 4️⃣ a customized and modified version of the "Hover Mode" walk style separately that removes the thruster VFX and can be used with any outfit.

Here's a list of the available interactions and what they do. Most of these are "immediate interactions" meaning the actions they trigger will take effect immediately. In fact, only one interaction isn't an "immediate interaction". A lot of this information is included in the in-game Tooltips.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ CANOPY! CANOPY! CANOPY!

This is a "kill switch". It removes all M.A.P. Buffs immediately.

This shouldn't actually ever be needed. I made it because I ran into an issue before my final M.A.P. reconfiguration - there were instances where the M.A.P. Buffs weren't removed as intended when M.A.P. was auto-removed or when switching locomotion modes, which resulted in rogue M.A.P. Buffs screwing with the sim's walk styles. I've left it in for three reasons - *️⃣ in case I've mucked something up and didn't realize, *️⃣ as a reminder to include a few of these for third-party mods like Basemental in my future Troubleshooting Pie Menu because reasons, *️⃣ and because pop culture references are fun! "Canopy! Canopy! Canopy!" is Rhodey's voice command to disengage his War Machine power suit.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ EQUIP & REMOVE M.A.P. EXOSUIT (BASIC)

First there was one, then there was two, and now there are three.

"Basic" AKA "CONFIGURATION #1" is the only M.A.P. ExoSuit that is not an "immediate interaction". *️⃣ When equipped, you will queue an action, do a little spin, then equip your M.A.P. *️⃣ I like the stop and spin to change outfits thing but it gets excessive and repetitive. When it was just one ExoSuit, it was fine, but ain't nobody got time for all this Superman !@#$. We're in the Sci-Fi age of nanotechnology, baby!

My three ExoSuits share the same "features": *️⃣ M.A.P.s will augment the EFFECTIVENESS of your Fitness Skill and your Handiness Skill by 1, meaning if a task or action or Odd Job requires Fitness or Handiness Skill level 5, and your Skill level is 4, wearing a M.A.P. is supposed to make the game think you're at Skill level 5. I still haven't actually tested this. This should also unlock interactions +1 higher than your actual Skill level. Now that I can do this, I might use it Elsweyr in the future. *️⃣ M.A.P.s are removed automatically when bathing, sleeping or swimming, and must be re-equipped manually. I apologize for the inconvenience but I did this intentionally. It's an ExoSuit with a jumpsuit that I can't remove. No one wants to swim in this thing. *️⃣ M.A.P.s are configured to remove and replace each other, meaning you never need to "Remove" one M.A.P. configuration before "Equipping" another and because "CONFIGURATION #2" and "#3" are "immediate interactions", they will immediately replace "#1" and each other.

The difference between my ExoSuits is the way their walk styles are configured. *️⃣ "Basic" AKA "CONFIGURATION #1" does nothing fancy. It doesn't change your walk style and it does not prevent Mood Buffs or Motives, etc. from affecting you. ⚑ A future update might change the way this works because I might know how to prevent Moods from affecting walk styles without needing a custom walk style.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ EQUIP & REMOVE M.A.P. EXOSUIT (DEFAULT)

See (BASIC) for the list of features!

"Default" AKA "CONFIGURATION #2" is an "immediate interaction". *️⃣ This one uses a custom walk style that replaces your walk style with the "Default" walk style *️⃣ and should prevent Mood Buffs and Motives from affecting you.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ EQUIP & REMOVE M.A.P. EXOSUIT (HOVER MODE)

See (BASIC) for the list of features!

"Hover Mode" AKA "CONFIGURATION #3" is THE WAY to M.A.P. *️⃣ It's an "immediate interaction", however I've noticed if you're switching to or from "Hover Mode" while your sim is walking or running, the custom walk style won't actually take effect until you stop moving. I believe this is an engine limitation. The only way around this is to reconfigure it to not be an "immediate interaction" and we don't want that. *️⃣ This uses the best custom walk style ever. I configured it to use "Hover Mode" for both "walkstyle" and "short_walkstyle" (see πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ HERE for a short explanation of how walk styles work), meaning you will use your thrusters for crossing medium distances and for the little things like taking a plate to the sink or repositioning yourself. It adds to the time required because of the way "Hover Mode" does a little 360Β° spin to reposition or reorient but I like it. Is cute! *️⃣ For long distances I gave you the "Sprint" walk style that I think is only used in very specific circumstances. This might be the "Run" walk style that I think high Skill level Fitness unlocks. I have no idea but it looks cool as !@#$ outrunning everysim! 😹 *️⃣ I gave you "Sprint" because there is no faster "Hover Mode" walk style and while I've figured out how to change the speed of walk styles and can make "Hover Mode" faster, I haven't figured out how to adjust the animation, so it just looks like you increased the Game Time Speed. Think Men in Black and that fancy button in the car. It doesn't look good. *️⃣ As with "Default", "Hover Mode" should also prevent Mood Buffs and Motives from affecting you.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ EQUIP & REMOVE M.A.P. HELMET

The Mechanical Suit Helmet does things, but my Helmet does not. Itsumi just an "immediate interaction" cosmetic accessory for now. As with my ExoSuits, I didn't want to make something infinitely better than the Mechanical Suit and completely negate it, though I can. I can make you an immortal avatar of Death what strikes fear into the hearts of all who gaze upon you... and I will, one day, and even Greg will flee in terror.

I mucked this up slightly - I didn't intend for the M.A.P. Helmet to be removed when switching ExoSuits but it does. ⚑ A future update might change this if it's a simple fix.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ ENGAGE & DISENGAGE M.A.P. HOVER MODE (NO VFX)

When I first created M.A.P. there was one ExoSuit interaction and one Hover Mode interaction that switched the walk style, then I figured out how to modify the actual walkstyle (no space) to remove the VFX and queue two overhauls cause of the headache this caused. 😹

This is a separate "immediate interaction" not connected to any M.A.P. ExoSuit. It's just a walk style and has no featu- well it does have it's own features. *️⃣ It can't be used when any ExoSuits are being worn. This is intentional to avoid the issue that resulted in the creation of Canopy! Canopy! Canopy! *️⃣ The SFX (sound effect) is still present when landing. I don't know how to remove this yet or if it can even be removed. *️⃣ This is meant to be used with other outfits. It looks kinda odd but eh, who cares, go wild!

This doesn't augment any Skills, however, *️⃣ unlike the ExoSuits, this walk style is not automatically removed under any circumstances. It will remain engaged until you disengage it manually. *️⃣ It should also prevent Mood Buffs and Motives from affecting your sim, *️⃣ and yes, I did try swimming in a pool with this enabled, you won't hover over the water, you'll swim as normal then hover when you exit the water.

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!

It just dawned on me that I have an unreleased Bust The Dust mod. 😹 I need to finish it because trying to play this game with BTD enabled is irritating. I cannot stand the air sniffing nonsense! Tecnhically, my BTD mod is complete. Why didn't I release it yet? <shrugs>

My M.A.P. only comes in one color, but the Mechanical Suit has multiple colors. I can make "color overrides" for each of the other colors. I can also do them as interactions. I might do both, who knows!

There are a lot of moving parts in this and a few months ago I didn't know how to do any of it.

AnimXGenWear taught me Animations and Animation State Machines and eventually forced me to research XML Injector and learn Pie Menu Interactions. Fixing EP16's embarrassingly broken Costume Box taught me Appearance Modifier Buffs and Traits and Walkstyles by extension and while I was building the custom Walkstyles Pie Menu (pending release), I came across Discover University's "Hover Mode". I didn't know the Mechanical Suit was a thing but one by one the stars aligned. I shelved almost everything I was doing and for three weeks I built this thing; the Strings, the Loots, the Buffs, the unnecessary Traits I eventually scrapped, the Pie Menu, the Interactions, and the coding required to make Tooltips work on Pie Menus which ain't as straightforward as Interactions, let me tell ya - I reconfigured it, I stripped it bare, I rebuilt it, I reconfigured it again, and finally it's done. Whatever shall I do with myself now? <looks around> Oh yeah, my other projects! 😹

This isn't a wheelchair and it's not a walking stick. I can't make animations yet and I can't do 3D modeling yet. This is what I can do right now with what we have available to us. Imagine what I could do with more. Yes, I do have an ego! I'm a Rocket Scientist, baby!

I am quite proud of this. It might seem simple on the surface but it required me to find and learn and cobble together a lot of different things. I also love doing these "I'm tired of everyone saying !@#$ can't be done!" mods. This is the second one of these, the first was Wearablesβ„’ Hearing Aids.
