๐Ÿฆ„ I had a weird interaction on Reddit.

Fair warning, I get kinda real in my reply to this individual. I also blast them in a more polite-than-usual way because I'm a moderator on this subreddit and I have some decorum. Dragging a $38.22 BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY for their anti-consumerism and incompetence is one thing, but I don't go around insulting people... on Reddit. ๐Ÿ˜น

This is a cautionary tale. Don't be this person. Ever.

There was a screenshot here but I removed it. It was unnecessary.

So, I responded to a simmer who was able to resolve their issue by switching their game to DX9 by following a comment I made.

In case you weren't aware, Update 9/18/2024 switched us from DirectX 9 to DirectX 11.1 and gave us a DX9 toggle in the Graphics settings. DX11 was previously only enabled by adding a Launch Command your game's Properties in EA App, but now it's the default setting and it's causing some problems for some simmers.

3 days later a random individual responds to my reply.

The identity of the individual is censored because I'm not the kind of person who does that to people unless I'm using those screenshots as proof in a report. The comments, including my responses have been LOCKED and REMOVED, so you cannot find them.

Now, I'm thinking I've never had to explain what DirectX is so let me ask The Duck. Microsoft's explanation is overly techy, so I take an explanation from Elsweyr:

And their response to this simple reply is this:

Yes, I upvoted them, because I generally upvote everyone I respond to in the Troubleshooting Thread, but I wonder, in hindsight, if they thought some other random other person was reading this and upvoted them because they agreed with that bullshit opening attack.

First, they're not asking Mac people, they're responding directly to a support volunteer's nested comment, so obviously that volunteer - me - is going to respond to them if they can answer the question. Furthermore, the question was "What is DX?", not whether or not it affects Mac. That's additional information I offered because they're a Mac simmer.

Second, why are they telling me about their hard year while insulting me? I'm a sympathetic person, but I have my limits.

Third, it's a Troubleshooting Thread, why didn't they state their issue like a regular person? Yelling "the rewards crap is breaking my game" isn't actually telling me shit. The rewards crap is breaking many people's games.

I'm all about solidarity with folks being frustrated at the state of the game, and I know it can be overwhelming at times and make folks irritable - besides the entertainment factor, folks use games as a way to bond with their kids, or to escape their real life frustrations, etc. I get it, I do.

I try to be soft in my response even though I'm reading this thinking "What the !@#$ crawled up your !@#?".

My response is awfully generous and calm but this is where the "fair warning" comes in because I hate it when people cite their "real life problems" in bad faith like this person did:

Their response to this is... a common trend I've seen on the internet with toxic people, and it's something I experience first-hand with my abusive toxic narcissist mother whenever I put her on the spot for her bullshit behavior:

Unfortunately this is the end of it. Their response took 10 hours to come, and by that time I was sleeping or my net was acting up, so I wasn't present to take action.

In the meantime they got into it with another moderator who was trying to help them in another thread, insulting them the same way, talking about their "life problems" as though that's a free pass to treat people like shit, and complaining that they - the other moderator - and me were failing to "understand their style".

A third moderator stepped in and took action.

I hadn't reported the extent of their behavior nor had I made any of the other moderators aware of this person, but in hindsight I should have so that no one else would have had to listen to this person's bullshit in good faith. That one is on me. I wanted to deal with this clown myself and didn't expect they'd go harassing other people.

Don't expect more of these "Storytime" posts. This is most likely a one-off type thing.

I hope you had fun reading it. I had fun typing it. Also, I wanted to preserve it for perpetuity.
