π΅οΈ New Feature Preview: Investigation System
One of my goals for Semester 1 (coming in version 0.7.4) is to make it feel like a complete story rather than just a series of events. Instead of simply watching things happen, you'll gradually uncover the truth behind one of the Academy's biggest mysteries.
To support that, I've started implementing a brand-new Investigation System.
As your character discovers evidence throughout the story, you'll collect Evidence Cards that can be placed on a corkboard in your dorm room.
The idea is simple:
π Collect clues during conversations, events, and investigations.
𧩠Drag evidence onto the board.
π Connect related clues together.
π‘ Build a complete theory.
π Uncover the truth and gain the leverage needed to move the story forward.
Rather than the game simply telling you what your character has figured out, you'll actually piece the mystery together yourself.
For Semester 1, this system revolves around Clover, who serves as the semester's first major antagonist.
After what appears to be a perfectly fair Memory Match challenge, the MC begins to suspect something isn't right. With Damian's help, you'll slowly gather clues from rumors, House activities, conversations, and your own observations until you're finally able to understand how and perhaps more importantly, why Clover always seems to win.
And here's my favorite part...
The investigation will have replayability.
While the overall conclusion of the investigation will remain the same, the clues themselves will be randomized every time you start a new game. Some evidence may appear earlier, other clues later, and different pieces of information will need to be connected together.
That means each playthrough asks you to solve the mystery again instead of simply repeating the exact same sequence of clues.
This screenshot is just the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) version, so don't mind the placeholder look of the evidence cards. π The final version will feature much nicer artwork and a cleaner interface.
I'm really excited about this system because it gives the story another layer of gameplay. Instead of just reading through an investigation, you'll actually feel like you're conducting one.
As always, I'd love to hear what you think! π
This feature is coming to 0.7.4.
