DevTalk: Sound Design in Love or Last Beach Stories
Today, we'd like to give you a quick behind-the-scenes look at how sound works in Love and Last Beach Stories. Audio is a big part of how we build atmosphere and emotion and, of course, how we make the beach feel like an actual beach and not a silent JPEG.
We work with three main types of audio: Music, Ambience, and SFX.
Music sets the mood and helps tell the story, whether you're in a dialogue, a sex scene, or trying to "survive" one of our minigames. It’s basically the emotional glue holding everything together.
Ambience makes each environment feel alive. Waves, seagulls, night-time crickets… You name it.
For example, the hammock scene has its own ambience — and yes, it even changes depending on whether it’s day or night because hammocks deserve that kind of respect.
SFX covers all the little interactions: UI clicks, object movements in minigames, door slams, alarms, phone rings — everything that makes the world feel reactive.
We’re also working on emotion sounds (gasps, sighs, reactions). Those are still cooking, but they’re on the way.
Our goal is to make every moment in Love or Last Beach Stories feel lively, charming, and a little chaotic in the best way.
What do you think: are we hitting the mark so far?
With love,
Night Icons Studio Team
