I made the mistake of watching Derek right after Afterlife and i didnt realise how much Ricky depends on truth bombs to captivate his audience. but some of them feel so forced. i think this is highlighted in Derek. so much so that they dont get to me any more and i skip them :')

Talking of the older generations sending love letters, we still have a letter my grandad sent to my gran in 1939. It was a few months before WW2 started. He got drafted and got stationed in Italy. They were arranging a date by letter. My gran was concerned about how many girls my grandad had been with, and he was putting her mind at rest and saying she was the one.

You should watch Him and Her! Joe Wilkinson is a constant character in that one, super funny

For the ladies who don't know; Lots of men in various prison were studied, of those that had been sentence for killing their wives/girlfriends, over 95% had a previous conviction for strangling the woman that they later went on to murder. If a man puts his hands on your neck in anger, you run away as fast and as far as possible.

Ricky has said in interview that you can show a flawed character has heart and hope by introducing an even worse character. In the office he introduced Finchy to make Brent look good. In Derek, it was Kev's brother. In Afterlife it was Brian's wife and gypsy boyfriend. The flawed character always has someone also flawed but nasty so we can see that although Kev/Brent/Brian are flawed, they have heart.
