Please do some reactions to a show called ...."watch out beadles about".........when denzel refers to jeremy beadle......absolutely hilarious british show 👌🤣
When you guys clocked it at the beginning. i was like "niceee"
I feel like Slater is like the grown up version of Randall from Recess :L
Did you know slater was originally set to play Del Boy
Jim is a great actor so joining OFAH writing was a great match
There used to be Friends Reunited, but it closed down quite a few years ago now.
Hey guys you need to watch the series called bottom by rick mayall and ade edminson
'What if it's Slater?' 'What if it's Raquel's husband?' What if you're BOTH right at the same time?
John Sullivan is a genius. He wrote every episode himself only and he dropped little clues that Raquel was married to a policeman, was subtly dropped in the episode "Chance of a Lunchtime'!!! The clues are dotted throughout the entire show of plotlines and everything thats happened is still on the table..... Theres so many little moments and forgotten lines that have still got so much to play for in the episodes ahead. GOAT show
Jim broadbent (slater was first up when they werer casting del boy and he turned it down, and he said even today hes best recognised as slater more then any other role even harry potter . im glad he turned it down love david jason
Must watch if you want a laugh 😅 https://x.com/coachdavidbaird/status/1750261078099906721?s=46&t=qEtGC56SgajcYMp1qpMFcA
Wasn't really a fan of this, I liked so much about this show apart from things like his old enemy being the husband of Raquel. It's too convenient and unbelievable, to the point where you roll your eyes rather than going with it. There is a lot of stuff in shows like where they owe money and suddenly they do a deal and it happens to be the exact amount they need... Fine, but this was just :/ Na too much.
You sound like a father ted or alan partridge fan lol I think OFAH is amazing. The endings of OFAH are impossible to predict, theres twists and turns some end up where they win the day, others when they lose... and the family warmth the comedy and the drama pull together, make this show stand on its on. 64 episodes. They could have chickened out at 14 like other famous ones. Slater is an amazing character.
I’ve been waitingggg for this!!
You two really need to watch Hot Fuzz 😀
I second this very hard, if they haven't already seen it.
Slater knew at the end if Dell took any money it would be impossible to go to the police without also being charged. Dell also knew that if he went for the divorce he'd legally 50% or however much she shares with him without any repercussions.
Alberts beard trim is on point
Beadle's About ('Watch out, Beadle's About') was a prank show, may have been the first since Candid Camera on British TV screens. The host was Jerome Beadle. You should check out some clips on YouTube.
oh no we are close to the end
I cant wait for episodes 7 & 8
And Jim Broadbent won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for ‘Iris’ in 2001
Mike's correct the Slater character is a great foil for Del and the gang, an odious, untrustworthy piece of work who brings serious problems whenever he appears. And then the hilarity osf hin getting his comeuppance as a pay-off. It was good that he was used sparingly, only 3 episodes but he was written to be unforgettable. A great follow-up to 'To Hull And Back' and call-back to the diamiond smuggling..
But Mike and Jess haven't watched all the episodes yet, so they don't know if Slater returns or not.... I guess they do if they read that tho...
Jremy Beadle was apresenter of the Saturday night TV Show 'Beadle's About' where members of the public were set up in what seemed to them real-life awkward/serious situations by actors whilst being filmed from afar . Then at the end Beadle would appear in a disguise before revealing it was a prank/set-up by the person's family/friends. Beadle had a withered hand which was also mentioned by Gareth in the Office 2nd seriesas Brent used to do an impression of him at confrences. The show had an annoying theme tune 'Watch out Beadle's about' which I hope we don't hear again.
I think that Raquel is using her stage name, instead of her real name Rachel, because she maybe thought it would be harder for Slater to find her if he came looking for her.
The one thing that always annoyed me about this episode is, when Raquel sees Slater lying on the sofa, and goes off on Del for letting him in the flat, and breaking his promise to her that he wouldn't let him get near her. Del didn't know that Slater was her husband, or else he never would have let him in the flat in the first place.
Yes! This annoyed me too. I like Raquel and feel she is really good fit for Del and that she is not afraid to challenge him and that they work well together - I am fan of this relationship but at times she can really nag Del when it's not warranted. Purely based on this scene, maybe because of how badly Slater treated her, she just saw red and her emotions just took over, and poor Del just got the brunt of it.
no pun intended boycie
“Who’s Rachel?” It’s just those little things with Uncle Albert where he can literally be MVP of an episode 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“You couldn’t get that van to do 70 miles per hour if you shoved it off a cliff” 😅
I did like that Del never let Raquel know that she was putting him in a difficult situation with her marriage to Slater. It was a nice change from how awful he was to her in Dates.
Albert's auditioning for Duran Duran
My first thought omg crying😹😹
I find when you try to guess what's going to happen it just ruins it
We've been reacting the same way since we started. It's just how we are naturally. All we can do is be our true selves. Sorry it bothers you, but it's not something that is going to change at this point. We could sit and pretend to not know what's coming, but when you are into the shows like we are, and a plot point comes up like this, it's not that far fetched for anyone, not just us, to guess what's coming next
Can’t believe Mike hasn’t ordered an Uncle Albert beard yet (or better still, grown one and dyed it)
Jeremy Beadle was the host of a hidden camera prank show, Beadle's About.
Jess made me laugh at the end. “Cest la vie. Wait, that’s not right”. Del Boy would be proud 😂
Local newspaper adverts were a good way to organise things like reunions and stuff back in the day I even remember it in the late 90s early 2000s when I was younger
My secondary school closed down the year after I did my GCSEs. The lunatics were running the asylum and no teachers wanted to work there, so there was no actual organised "Reunion" as such, plus everyone that liked each other met up at the pub regularly anyway.
I'm not sure reunions organised by the school are even in a thing in this country (UK) are they? All school reunions are just organised by ex-students themselves, aren't they? Schools have enough to do involving current students without having to organise a party for a bunch of hairy adults.
Such a great episode and your reaction to the Slater twist was something I was eagerly anticipating ....and it didn't disappoint! 😃
I see Unruly by David Mitchell on the table. I wouldn't read it just yet, as David Mitchell in a throwaway line mentions an Only Fools spoiler.
They’ve had the book for a long time. Mind you, so have I and I’ve only read 10% of it.
Seen this episode tons of times on different channels and DVD over the years, never seen the bit with the singing.
They spoil more things for themselves than the chat 🤣
Jim Broadbent is one of the greatest English actors of all time, just brilliant.
Very underappreciated he is ♥️
Mike's disdain for del has now reached its magnum opus as he declares he likes slater loool. PS guys did you know that Jim broadbent who played slater was offered the role of del I'm absolutely 100% sure that hasn't been mentioned 476 times before
I thought that too! Has real issues and is very judgey over slightly dodgy but loyal and kind-hearted Del, but loves extremely dodgy, slimy, nasty piece of work bordering on evil Slater! 😅🙈
"Its the detective" Damb, they guessed it "No, it can't be the detective" Oh, we good 😌 "Its the ex husband" FUUUUUUUUU........
Yay Who's Rachel day 😀
everytime you think that’s probably the last classic episode you get another
Jim Broadbent who played Slater was originally cast to play Del Boy
I'd say there are areas of UK where your reputation would be very badly damaged by people knowing about your partner being married to a copper. Where I grew up it was a bit like that. Probably not to the extent where you'd actually be 'finished' (though I can understand the worry) but it would be hard to live down. I can understand why they needed to keep it quiet so badly.
Brilliant. Loved that and just got Oasis tickets. What a start to my Sunday ❤️
Fab episode. Flipping love Trigger’s moments - they’re all gold. And I love your reaction to them.
Guys, Love it. I was cheering and clapping with you. Lovely Jubbly!
Jim Broadbent, who plays Slater, was originally offered the role of Del Boy but he turned it down due to other commitments.
Oh, ive been looking forward to this one 🤣
The class of 62 is definitely one of my favourites. The ending is such a great pay off and leaves you with that feel good ending, just like the poker episode and Chain Gang. Great reaction 👌🏼🫶🏼
I swear to god, waking up to you guys doing OFAH stuff on a Sunday is like the safest, warmest hug. Absolutely love it. And this episode is a belter.
Another classic episode, Jim Broadbent’s such a quality actor
I love how Only Fools has connected with you guys. Love to see your reactions Just wondering though, any plans to watch Rock & Chips, the Only Fools prequel when they were all teenagers? Del is played by James Buckley, the guy who plays Jay in the Inbetweeners
Rock and Chips is great, but it's probably important to mention they should not watch it, or even look into it, until done with Only Fools.
I know what Mike means about liking Slater, everyone loves to hate a good villain. And as for Rodney and Cassandra, for years I watched Only Fools episodes randomly and didn't notice just how painfully dragged out that storyline is until the first time I watched it chronologically
Of course it wasn't originally written to be watched once a week. On original broadcast real world months and even years would pass by between episodes.
Jeremy Bloody Beadle - fantastic
“We had…we had camaraderie.” “Was that the Italian boy?” Another Trigger classic 😅
“Who’s Rachel?” 🤣🤣🤣 For me, Uncle Albert’s funniest one liner during his stint on the show?
“Vot ish your name” running it very close for that title.
Hate this plot twist. Wish they hadn’t gone there.
Yeah doesn't really make sense, or at least feels contrived and forced in as conflict to overcome for an episode – Raquel just happens to be married to Del's arch nemesis. And as Mike said there's no way Slater wouldn't have mentioned Del Boy or any of his old mates to Raquel. I think John Sullivan just never mapped it out as such a long running series, e.g. in some of the first episodes characters are introduced to each other like they're meeting for the first time, then we later found out they all went to school together. It's just one of those things.. beouf a la mode, as the French would say.
The actor is Jim broadbent, a famous English actor, who was actually first choice to play Delboy, but turned the role down!!!
So glad he turned it down! No disrespect but David Jason is perfect.
"It could be the detective or her husband" oh yeah it could
John Sullivan has admitted that he had never intended Slater to be Raquel’s husband, even when she mentioned him being a policeman back in episode 2 of this series. It was only when he was writing this episode did he decide to go with that idea.
To believe that, you'd have to believe that this episode was only planned, written and recorded after episode 2 was broadcast just 3 weeks ago. I don't believe that.
I'm trespassed from my old school and a bunch of the teachers have restraining orders on me, it'd be a pass on a reunion.
You sound like a right cheeky character.
Never really enjoyed this episode for some reason. Not one of my faves
Good to see Slater again, but I’ve always thought it all gets wrapped up a bit too quickly and easily for me.
It was mentioned in a previous episode that Raquel’s ex-husband was a police officer. I think I remember reading that it was intended just as a throwaway joke and it was never John Sullivan’s plan for it to be Slater, but using it as a way to bring Slater back was too good to be true.
She mentioned her husband being a police officer exactly once, earlier in this series, in Chance of a Lunchtime. This episode would have already been planned, written and maybe even recorded when she said that.
It was nice to see the unedited version with them singing "Mighty Quinn"! I haven't seen this version for a long time.
I've seen this episode a hundred times or more since i first watched it as a kid and I don't think i've ever seen that section of the scene. Was a nice little added bonus for me.
Oh my God, I’ve never seen this version with the song playing in the flat.
Why I would never go to a reunion either, every person I meet from school these days looks so old and it's depressing. I remember having a memory of my teenage girlfriend being the love of my life, really beautiful and everything. I saw her the other year and I just thought she looked so old and covered in tats eurgh, it ruined my memory and I wish I didn't see her now lol. Nothing ever good happens going to the past, during lockdowns I decided I was going to see where I grew up and it's a right dump, nothing like my memories. Why I wont ever play WoW Classic, I want to remember it being better than it actually is today.
Maybe they feel the same way about you!
Shout out to the Isle of Wight!
Horrible little island! :P
I've been looking forward to this one for so long!! One of the best reveals in TV IMHO
Best time of the week ❤️
Get up you plonkers. Trotter time
