Peep Show - S9E1 'The William Morris Years'

“Who wants a nice cup of the Kenco?” Kenco is a famous coffee brand that sponsored Peep Show when it first aired in 2003. However, they incorrectly referred to it as ‘The Peep Show’ in their advertisements. Mark saying ‘The Kenco’ is a subtle nod and revenge joke many years later.
Hans' song at the start is one of my favourite moments of the whole show, I sing it all the time.
See you at work ✌️😂
Mike, much respect for the Sublime t-shirt dude 🤟
Okay I joined the patreon might someone please tell me where I can pleeease suggest Life's Too Short? We will all expire from the laughing and it's really so smart
We just suggest shows in the comments, usually on the uploads that are related to what we’re recommending. Life’s Too Short has been suggested many times on the Ricky Gervais stuff, so it will be on the radar 👍🏼 They are aware of it but have many shows to get through.
Daves loving that pause button today isn't he 😂
2:58 Jess sounded like Boycie 🤣
Brassic will be a good series to get into next or if you want something more serious I'd recommend Mobland amazing series and new series just came out has tom hardy in it
When you guys start missing them from Peep Show, it could be a good chance for "Mitchell & Webb" or "Back" - like others have mentioned... after the next series you guy's already have lined up. It's been great re-watching this show for the 456th time with you guys lol. ; )
Him and Her after we finish this masterpiece 👀 proper underrated!
You both have that Mitchell and webb look you could check out after this show finishes. :)
Great ep / reactions. 😂 😂😂 ♥♥
Jack Dee's 'Lead Balloon' is really excellent. UK cringe sitcom, embittered & aging stand-up tries to get his flagging career back on track. Very similar to Gervais/Merchant's best works. Only 4 series then it concludes. They're all on YouTube and officially uploaded. It's A+ tier comedy.
I forgot how much better series 9 is compared to 8, big step up in quality before the end
This series was a real return to form after more hit and miss series (5 through 8), so glad they finished on such a high.
'That Mitchell & Webb Look' is a comedy sketch show they do which is really good.
Haven't you heard? It's racist now... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6jdvpr30k8jo
Strange how a spiritual successor is some respects to Peep Show is Succession, one of the best television series of all time. The same biting satire and awkwardness, amazing writing.
I assume you know this, but just to clarify for ppl who dont (and Jess and Mike): Succession was created by Jesse Armstrong the creator / main writer (along with Sam Bain) of Peep Show. Ive watched Succession multiple times (and PS countless times tbh) and have def spotted quite a few references... also, as u say, the tone and witty/fast/crude-yet-clever dialogue is very reminiscent.
I can def understand you guys enjoying S1 a bit less. The actors, writers and director were still finding their feet - it's such an unique setup and way to film. But I love how much you've taken to it and, also, love how u just get it - it's so British! It was a cult comedy when it came out but is now approaching a British institution. Everyone who knows the score will put Peep Show in their top 1/2/3 of fav British comedy TV shows. Also, love the fact that Mike (possibly Jess too?) is rewatching it. It does well on rewatches because the dialogue is so intricate and fast (main writer Jesse Armstrong was the creator and showrunner of Succession - and you can def see the style of quick, witty, insult-heavy-yet-clever dialogue replicated there) . There also so many Britain-focused references that u can take the time and look it up when you're not streaming, if u fancy it obvs. Also, just since there may be a few slots opening up: can I suggest you watch the trailers/adverts for Inside No 9? (Btw I think you checking out a show before u commit is def a good approach. No one wants to watch u not enjoying a show). It would be a bit of contrast to most of your choices so far (slightly darker, twist-heavy anthology - often compared to Black Mirror - but still comedic). I personally think it's the best show to come out of the UK in quite a while. Also, as an anthology, they get different actors every ep - many of whom you'll recognise. Anyway, thanks for the reaction as always. Love u guys!
The Thick of It would be a good one to replace this as one of the main writers of this was also one of the writers of that so it has a lot of the same type of dialogue - lots of funny put downs, descriptions and such.
They would have zero context and understand non of it
Robert Webb and David Mitchell did a series called "Back" that not many people have seen. It's actually very good
love this season, the story and acting from the main 2 guys was at its peak despite the break, probs 2nd best opening ep after season 7 ep 1
Love how Jez was still being a 'life coach' to others while he was sleeping in a crackheads bath 😂 😂
They certainly come home with a wet sail, Series 9 was done very well, Tim Key is great too - if you ever get a chance to listen to his Rafio show, you should take it. It’s top draw…
Love Tim Key! Reading one of his books atm
Female vikings did that sh too.
Black books after peepshow?...
Yeh, I support this. Think they would like it and good to react to.
Wonder if they'll do that Mitchell & Webb look. Guess sketch shows are a bit different but still brilliant
I'm gonna miss your Peep Show reactions so much! For a next show suggestion, I think you guys would really enjoy Ghosts (the original BBC version) 😊😊
The way Mike has come to love this show warms the cockles. Definitely one of those shows where sticking with a slightly iffy first season is worth it.
Series 1 is probably my favourite 😂
I think you guys would love the show Benidorm
Fresh Meat, same creators as Peep Show. Joe Thomas from Inbetweeners. And it actually feels like a natural progression from Inbetweeners.
Huge +1 for Fresh Meat. It really is a spiritual progression from The Inbetweeners, but from Peep Show creators. We were years late to viewing it and binged every series in 6 weeks. You'll laugh your heads off and cry and have toe-curling cringe.
Who else thinks the Mitchell & Webb sketch show would be a perfect follow up to Peep Show?
He's bagged!
Hilarious episode!
Shout out for Super Hans actor Matt King who suffered a stroke recently. Wishing Matt a very speedy recovery.
I knew you'd miss Peep Show when it's over. No better comedy show ever.
One of the best episodes of any sitcom ever. Series nine might be the best. Enjoy!
Monday slot: 'Here we go'
Peep show is a weird one because it genuinely gets better every rewatch. Knowing spoilers etc really doesn’t affect it at all. I’ve rewatched it maybe 50 times lol
Yes, hugely re-watchable. Like Scorsese/De Niro's 'The King of Comedy'.
Sad because they always see Tim Key as a bad guy - you could have had him for 4+ seasons as sidekick Simon in Alan Partridge!!
Jerry isn't the bad guy here to be fair.
Is Tim Key just typecasted into playing jerks in shows? lol
He's a nice guy in Partridge
Really hope they give young offenders a go
I settled on 22 degrees for my house because of Peep Show. It’s difficult without a thermostat, you have to let it drift between 21 and 23. But I’ve got a temperature gauge at my desk to monitor my working temperature. The heating has been off since May though. Currently in the 21’s and playing a game of can I reach the end of September without turning the heating on. Fun times.
Of course you can, just regulate your body heat with clothing. Heating on in September is mad. I never heat my home even in Winter, it's not necessary.
I love this series there’s one part I can’t wait for 👍🏻
is it to do with marks bedroom ? haha
The last season is up there as one of the best.
It’s definitely better than series 8, which is arguably the worst one.
If Jeremy has been living with Super Hans, why is he surprised to see that he’s sobered up on the stag do?
This gets thrown about a lot. It’s perfectly reasonable that Molly insisted that he only could have a stag do without drink/drugs. It doesn’t imply that Hans has sobered up before this point. Also - it’s a comedy and it provides necessary context for the audience.
It's awesome you're rewatching it! While every season is great, the writing and humor were definitely at their best early on—which is easy to forget when watching from start to finish. The last season is pure chaos, so you'll love it! I remember it took a few episodes to get the show initially, so I'm so glad you're completely on board now - it's amazing!
Him and Her next watch suggestion
Brilliant show
Yissss
looking forward to this one!
