I’ve worked in end of life care, and honestly the majority of visitors are lovely and caring, but you do get the odd magpie and you can spot them a mile off
Eyebrow comment made me laugh as I'd just watched the episode of Ted lasso before this were people are calling his eyebrows 😅

Years and years ago I was working an agency shift in a nursing home that had quite well off families. I was sitting having my break when one of the carers came in to let me know that the wee woman who was dying, her daughter sitting with her was attempting to get the wedding and engagement ring off her finger she was trying to pull it off but the wee soul had arthritis so her joints were swollen. I had to go in and basically ask the daughter to stop.
Yeah it's heart breaking when you see family members of someone you see almost everyday, come and act like it's a chore and a bother to be there. An obligation to fill. It's not all like that, just enough to get you down and realise how the value of life seems to diminish for people the older we get, the more we are seen as someone who can't contribute enough. The story you just told is horrible, well done on handling it well.
only fools , I promise gets better and better , hilarious episodes on their way , intertwined with unbelievabley written sad bits that make you cry and laugh at the same time , iam 66 and can’t wait for Sundays to continue this journey again xx love to you both and family xx

To really echo others comments, it’s great to see your reaction and that you just appreciate it for what it is without prior conception gotten from the press and disgruntled media etc.. I needed a laugh tonight, going through tough times in many respects and the frog scene did me no end of good, they turned the machine off after the first one 😂 and then tears not long after.. amazing show and amazing reaction , made my evening ❤️🙏
I love Derek for all kinds of reasons - the compassion shown by the lovely staff, Derek's wonderfully played innocence, et al. I worked for many years in a care home and really like old people and this series resonates with me. But I really dislike the gross character and just can't find his coarse remarks funny. Despite that, I'll continue watching for the other, good bits. Also, the extremely sexy Brett Goldstein as the love interest is enough to keep me watching. He had a major role in Ted Lasso, another series it would be fabulous to see you guys to react to. His eyebrows are GORGEOUS!

Remembering back to all the comments when you watched the pilot, saying that Ricky is just cashing in on vulnerable people by playing this role...... You have to wonder if they've ever actually watched it. This show has so much heart and goodness at its core, so glad you guys can see that xx
I've watched it. He absolutely is cashing in. His character and Kev are completely unnecessary. All the poor old dears are shown as doddery and incapable. It's like he's hammering you over the head with his be nice to old people and the disabled message. This and afterlife had so much potential but it doesn’t live up to it with Rickys lack of subtlety and choice to be vulgar. Derek gets some things right but it could have been so much more with a better writer
The woman who said she just burns stuff played the character Mandy in this country and a character in eastenders she is phenomenal
Only problem is she only does massive tattoos.

The music throughout the show by Ludovico Einaudi is beautiful and haunting. Strongly recommend listening to more of his music, including the amazing Le Onde, Experience and Fuori Dal Mondo, which many may recognise from This Is England.

It finished around 10th out of 35 shows in the recent polling. So maybe sometime?
I always look forward to your reactions but your reaction to Derek has a very special place in my heart. Ricky Gervais has this talent to make one laugh and cry within the space of 5 minutes and it's wonderful to see how others respond.
I'd forgotten how much lazy writing there is in this show.
I like the show, but the horrible daughter was cartoonish in her shittyness. A slightly more subtle approach might have paid dividends.

I think Ricky is largely a character he plays to get to where he is today. He became rich and famous in his 40s, before that he had a reasonably paid stable job. It's difficult to get to that point being the person Ricky portrays himself to be on stage or in interviews. People have come out saying he's a cunt but only people from after he was famous, not a single person from the first 40 years of his life has said the same thing.
He is very emotionally intelligent . I think most of the best comedians are to be honest. I like him anyway
Netflix original series? Wasn’t this a C4 production?
My memory is that from series 2 it became a Channel 4/Netflix co-production so maybe Netflix have retrospectively applied that status when showing series 1 internationally on their platform. (Boring answer, apologies)
The outtakes will kill you. The caravan scene is hilarious.

My ex's sister was just like that. Utter scum, only ever bought brand new things from overpriced brands and always ensured they avoided the sales, looked down on those who didn't. Brand new car every single year. Worse part, they were unemployed, paid entirely through benefits. That's not even the worse part about her. My ex in comparison to her sister was an angel, utterly perfect.
This episode aired the month before Rolf Harris was arrested for the first time.
My mum has worked in hospices for over 40 years, and when I go to see her, she has another story about Vultures like Shelly. They just shove their dying parents in care and completely forget about them, until they get the call that time is nearly up. Then they suddenly become incredibly interested. It's usually either rings or crystal collections. Scum of the earth.
Looking after mum on an elderly street you see that sickening behaviour a lot from reletives not caring about their parents.
We call it Macca's in Australia. Brett Goldstein who plays Tom created and is one of the stars of "Ted Lasso".
