In abit gutted because I think they’d love Mid Morning matters and This Time. But im sure they won’t stick with it long enough to enjoy those. Ah well… win some ya lose some

D
Dave Whatt · September 4, 2026

I actually think they’d LOVE mid morning matters and This Time. But yea I don’t particularly enjoy this either

J
Jacob Sharpe · September 3, 2026

I love that you are taking on Alan.. From the comments it gave the impression that you are not enjoying him. But from my viewing.. I feel you are enjoying it and getting a grasp on who he is. I'm looking forward to seeing more reactions to him. But if you decide this show is not for you then.. hey, ho.. I just enjoy watching you, enjoying watching, stuff I enjoy... :) x

Davey J · September 2, 2026

Having thought about it some more, I think Mike and Jess seem to enjoy the shows based on a complex cast of interesting characters such as Only Fools, Peep Show and Gavin & Stacey etc. The problem with this show (and I have seen people mention Miranda too) is that it is just one character that the others seem only to exist for him to interact with. That makes it a bit too one dimensional for me.

J
Joe · August 31, 2026

This show was divisive in the uk when it came out so I can imagine it might not translate to anyone not from the uk. I loved it back in the day but most of my mates couldn’t stand it! I hope Mike and Jess give it a bit more of a chance though as like many other shows (blackadder, only fools etc) it gets better as it continues…

J
JokerDanny · August 31, 2026

A 180 again, Mike you literally said during the first episode "I'm loving this", and now you are saying you're struggling. I don't understand it, how are we supposed to trust that your reactions are genuine when you do a complete 180 like that. I'm not trying to be argumentative but I just don't get it guys, like why upload it if you didn't enjoy it, because seeing you guys look stone-faced for 70% of it just isn't fun. Again not trying to be argumentative, I'm just giving you my genuine feedback because I do like your reactions.

D
Daniel Ratcliffe · August 30, 2026

They should just skip all the shows and Alan Partridge movie. It's by far the most accessible version of Partridge for an international audience.

L
Lucus · August 30, 2026

Honestly, i think the later stuff would connect much better. I think This time with Alan Partridge would be much more palatable and enjoyable for you to watch. I really hope you don't give up with Alan, there's a reason why his character has been going on strong for 30 years. I understand why the 90s stuff might feel a bit dated and hard to follow along with.

J
James Hyde · August 30, 2026

People Just Do Nothing! has to replace Alan Partridge in this slot. 2 episodes in and it’s clear it doesn’t translate well, which is understandable as it’s a really poor choice for international viewers to relate to

P
Paul Archibald · August 29, 2026

What a man. What a legend. I hope you can stick with it. I’m sure you will love it in the end. ❤️

M

I adore Alan Partridge, but this was uncomfortable. I don’t think you should continue. I won’t be watching another reaction to AP, but I still love you both.

E

I would move on from this

k
kev carroll · August 29, 2026

an overwhelming number of their patrons love this show. its only a short series, if it gets dropped for something shit like outnumbered or vicar of dibley whats the point.

D
Drew · August 29, 2026

As much as I love Partridge, this is up there with Fawlty Towers and The Office for me, Mike is clearly struggling. We can't all like the same things. My partner shrieks with laughter at Friday Night Dinner, and I just don't get it.

k
kev carroll · August 29, 2026

friday night dinner is so low brow, its the same jokes every episode, "piss face" "puss face", "lovely bit of squirrel""too hot for a t shirt" urgh, it only went on so long as they got simon bird who was a big draw after inbetweeners

S
Stephen Reid · August 29, 2026

Mike and jess should watch the jimmy saville film were steve coogan acting is brilliant.

A

K
Keith Pratt · August 29, 2026

I'm not.

R
Ramshackle · August 29, 2026

Alan is quite unusual as a comedy sitcom character. He doesn't really have any redeeming qualities but he's not written to be hated either. He's just a bumbling, oafish personality with extremely poor social/self awareness, but views himself as being above his contemporaries when he clearly isn't. He's a pastiche of mediocre daytime TV presenters and talkshow hosts who think very highly of themselves. I hope you guys at least watch the next episode as it's a classic fan favourite. If it's still not clicking with you after that, you're unlikely to ever come around to Partridge, which would be a big shame as the second series is a step up.

J
Joe · August 29, 2026

I dont think you like this show and thats fine, id rather you watch something you do like.

L
Louis Payne · August 29, 2026

Mike's struggling! Stick with it cos it can only get better/worse! Good luck 🤞...

J
Julian · August 29, 2026

Next week’s episode is a good one but the humour is the same. Maybe they should just drop a new show next week without announcing anything. Surprise us.

J
Jeremy O Dwyer · August 29, 2026

I think what's meant to be funny about Alan's references are that most of them are so niche and reference specific often boring things that most people either don't know or wouldn't care about. He's basically a big kid who can't really connect with people because he doesn't really like them who, because he doesn't really get on with people, has amassed a whole encyclopedia worth of obscure and useless knowledge and facts that most people wouldn't spend 5 minutes thinking about. He's basically a socially awkward big kid who thinks he's the smartest person in the room.

S
Simon Cloud · August 29, 2026

This was a painful watch. Personally I love AP but if its not for you then thats fine. I would rather see you enjoying yourselves than forcing through. So many other good sitcoms. Im thinking you would probably like the Vicar of Dibley or if you like Lee Mack then Not Going Out is hilarious.

K
Kim · August 29, 2026

I agree with both of those suggestions, but because they aren't popular on the polls, they will probably miss out on something they would like.

d
deano88 · August 29, 2026

One of my favourite shows. I can see you're struggling with it but please stick with it, it does get better. Lots of classic shows have so called slow starts and abandoning it early would be a shame.

z
zimmy lamb · August 29, 2026

When this series came out it was critically lauded - and Partridge has been lauded ever since. It might not be landing for a few reasons - one it’s very British, two, it’s pastiching a very specific oeuvre of British radio DJs and tv presenters, and three, they haven’t seen Partridge develop as a character. So they are missing the context of who Partridge is as a person, and why he is in this position.

M
Mark Jephson · August 29, 2026

Look keep going..... you will tune in.

S
Stu · August 29, 2026

Green wing is what they need

N
Nik · August 29, 2026

Alan Partridge is the type of character the British are good at - pompous with a complete lack of self awareness (think of Basil Fawlty and David Brent). I think the difference here is that is takes a few episodes to develop the side characters. In the early episodes they are one dimensional for Alan to deliver lines to. The other shows I mentioned develop side characters early on. The side characters, like his PA Lynn and the maintenance man Micheal do develop over time. In fact Michael, in my opinion, steals the show in later episodes

M
Martin Close · August 29, 2026

Drop it you clearly don't like it im English an I don't like it either

A
Adam X. Luke · August 29, 2026

For some perspective- I watched this series after being a big fan of 'knowing me, knowing you' and expecting it to be great, but didnt laugh once during the first episode and was kind of baffled and didnt think it was going to work for me. By the end of the series, and then watching the second series, it is now one of my favourite shows of all time. It's a slow burn because it's so strange and nuanced, but worth sticking with 👍. (and Mike is right, it's better on the rewatch)

I
Ian P · August 29, 2026

I'm starting to wonder if you guys should just avoid the 90s releases completely as most of it is very reference-heavy. Also my American sister-in-law suggested that they don't tend to have comedy characters over there who are just outright mean, without at least a few redeeming qualities that allow you to root for them just a bit, hence why someone like Partridge just isn't gunna land? I could be way off base with both my suggestions here, but interesting theories nonetheless 🤔

J
JD · August 29, 2026

Mental to rec this after Father Ted didn't hit. It's going to be a tedious teeth pull until they give it up. People need to stop saying it takes off or changes, this is the style. This is it. I like it but it ain't for everyone. Would much rather watch them react to to something they can get

C
Chris · August 29, 2026

I agree completely. If they were going to like this show, they'd already like it. People saying this is just a slow or bad episode is ridiculous too. It's one of the funniest. All the stuff with Jill is hilarious. They might have been better off doing season 2 instead since it's probably more accessible and has Sonja in it but who knows. Probably better to just accept the character isn't for them at this point.

C
Captain Cardboard · August 29, 2026

Although episode three will be watched...my prediction is it won't see the light of day. Some of the lines are a bit...problematic.

N
Nexus · August 29, 2026

Mike's face watching this 😂. There's half an hour of your life you're not getting back mate. Partridge is definitely not for everyone, very overatted but I would say series 2 is better but still it's not a truly great British show for me.

E
Emmanuel Martin · August 29, 2026

The difference between Alan an say Basil or Brent is he has no redeeming features. He's a COMPLETE looser and a twat. But thinks he'S better than everyone else. He's ultra pedantic and petty.. I think British audiences can see bits of him in themselves and others around them. Maybe it's all a bit too un-relatable for Americans. But I hope you continue... I didn't really get it when it first came out..but years later It's in my top 5. I have linton travel tavern T shirts...it's all a celebration of the banal, beige, and the pathetic in us all.

W
Will Keating · August 29, 2026

My favourite reactors and my favourite show. Alan's not for everyone, no shame in that but his character can take time to really understand. If you're not enjoying it just watch Blackadder which is right up your alley!

R
Richiep · August 29, 2026

Are you being sarcastic lol, they defo wont like blackadder

J
Jon Read · August 29, 2026

Strange what we like and don't like, as I wouldn't expect them to be Still Game fans but they are, I guess something just grabs someone more than something else. A bit like I love Alan Partridge but am not a Still Game fan, even though both are quite surreal sitcoms.

A
Ash Jeffries · August 29, 2026

If it isn't for you guys then knock it on the head, but I would honestly at least watch the very next episode as it is in my view, the strongest episode from series 1 It may or may not be the one that makes it click. Alan Partridge is the complete antithesis to broad humour. It's very specific, nuanced, eccentric humour that won't appeal to everyone, and that's OK.

T
The Gene Genie · August 29, 2026

Who are these people that voted for Alan Partridge. I think he’s the greatest comedy character ever created but let’s face it, if they didn’t get Father Ted they ain’t going to get Partridge.

J
Julian · August 29, 2026

Those things didn’t overlap. It was on the radar since before Father Ted. They promised to give him a 2nd chance, which is fair enough.

A
Andy Gore · August 29, 2026

I get how Mike feels as when i first watched AP i hated it..( also i get there is alot of UK references and from the 90s) but tried again a few years later and it is one of my all time favourites plus following on with what he created after i really enjoyed also. Imo would stick with it its only 6 eps each season and only 2..You will get to a stage where there is not much recent UK comedy worth watching trust me on that.. so would keep on the AP path for views and members imo.. and even if is not favourite jess laughed enough imo to keep with it and the 2nd season is my favourite also.

B
Bren · August 28, 2026

The next episodes really take off.

C
Chorlton Outlaw · August 28, 2026

Give it up guys - not for you guys, you're more gav and stacey than partridge in your comedy taste, and that's ok

N
Nicola · August 28, 2026

I love this one 😂 I'm 35 and I don't get some of the references as I think you have to be of a certain age to know the things he's referencing so it's not just a cultural difference.. like some others have commented, this is a cult classic and its not everyone's cuppa tea but hopefully after a few more eps it will grow on you 😬🤞 but if not then that's cool, we all like different things 🤷‍♀️

J
Jenny A · August 28, 2026

I love AP, it’s one of the best shows ever written IMO, but it doesn’t mean anyone else has to like it. I doubt anyone here wants to see you hating a show they love or being bored by a show they are also bored by. I only like Peep Show out of the shows you watch now, but it would be daft to get angry about it.

G
Gerard McCartan · August 28, 2026

Too many people cant accept that a reactor isnt feeling a show they love. Peepshow to me is brilliant but too many moments feel too daft, rushed and full of silly situations and the best character 'Johnsion' isnt in enough episodes. OFAH is a favourite I think because it brings comedy, warmth, emotion, heartbreaks, joy, real life pressures and individual characters that feel real, but I get why people dont get that as much as Peepshow because we all love different things. Im going to hang in there with Alan Partridge cos all my family and mates love it.

D
David Watkins · August 28, 2026

Im not surprised it isn't landing with you, AP is a collection of the all the personality traits we British men try and keep hidden! No redeeming features at all. People Just Do Nothing, Detectorists and Spaced would be right up your street

a
almsivi · August 29, 2026

This is a very "eating hotdogs for the shape" take not gonna lie to you there Dave

G
Graeme Campbell · August 28, 2026

I love partridge by Saxondale is my favourite Coogan character

G
Graeme Frew · August 28, 2026

Never liked AP and this just confirms why. Brent was cringe done with subtlety and a degree of likeability. Partridge is just cringe full stop without either.

G
Gerard McCartan · August 28, 2026

The comments of rage at Mike are childish. Its a reaction. He, like myself isnt feeling the show yet. Why would he be pretending to hate it? Weak mentality of people who cant accept that other people have other likes and dislikes. Its like you only want them to love it and if they dont, then they are "stupid, lying, arrogant, childish..."trying to hide their laughs..?. wtf is wrong?? peace and love from ireland

L
Lydia · August 29, 2026

I don’t think it’s that, I think people just don’t want Mike and Jess to feel pressed to watch something they aren’t enjoying 🙂

L
Lee · August 28, 2026

His talkshow is better. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" - you'll find that funnier I think. This series doesn't work for you two.

E
Emma Edwards · August 28, 2026

They already tried KMKY and dropped it in the second episode. It just didn’t land with them at all. There are lots of Alan Partridge fans here though, so they agreed to give him another go with this. It’s not been the best start but we’ll see how they feel after the next episode as it’s a good one. If they end up dropping it then at least they tried.

s
steve milne · August 28, 2026

I thought they enjoyed the first episode. Mike seemed to decide he wasn’t going to enjoy this from the off. Nodding his head throughout. Shame but you can’t force what you like. You can enjoy it without getting all the British references IMO. I know Americans that love AP. It’s my 2nd favourite series of all time. But hey we move on. Don’t think Blackadder will stick either.

R
RegenerationNationTV · August 28, 2026

There are plenty of other Brits in the comments saying they never got it. It's not that I "decided" anything. I'm genuinely trying to get into the show. It's clearly not for me, just like it's not for many others below saying the same thing. I'll give it another episode, but this really has nothing to do with someone just deciding not to like something.

s

I,m not enjoying it and don.t think M & J will either. This and Taskmaster are the only 2 that I.won.t watch until their end. Taskmaster because I ,ve already seen it all and Partridge because I don,t find him at all funny. I enjoy the other 5 days so still well worth the subs.

When he decides he hates something, boy does Mike make sure you know about it! 😂 Every scowl and shake of the head - even at the bits he suppressed his laughter at.

E
Emma Edwards · August 28, 2026

I don’t think that’s true Tom. I know that he / they really want to like it, especially after KMKY didn’t pan out. It’s very popular with the subscribers and there’s a lot of content there if they grow to like him. I know that if it does get dropped, it’s not a decision they’ll make lightly. I love IAP but I certainly don’t want to sit and watch them seeing this through to the end if they’re not enjoying it.

T
Tonia Laws · August 28, 2026

Alan Partridge has no clue how to relate to people or how to treat them. So socially awkward and unpopular, not to mention inherently selfish, but it gets so funny as it goes on. Some of the second series are some of the funniest things I've ever seen. You have to listen to every small throw away comment. Good on you for keeping with it though and I hope you see it out.

E
El, as in The · August 28, 2026

I think it does get funnier. I got into Alan Partridge late, decades after everyone else but I love it now. He is a total dick and awkward, but it's just funny. I don't really know much about Bill Oddy or the Pedestrianisation of Norwich City centre either.. I don't think you need to get them all to understand his nature/quirks. It's not a long series, I'd stick with it, but I obviously don't get a vote haha. I'm indifferent.

I’m a mega Partridge fan but the only one in my friend group, so I completely understand he’s a marmite character. I think you would both like Ghosts UK, funny with a lot of heart. N
Neil M · August 28, 2026

This obviously doesn't hit for them, it's not a fun watch

M
Morr10 · August 28, 2026

I'll give you a bit of background to help you. Alan worked in TV and Radio for a long time. I'm not sure there's much explanation behind him - he just is who he is 😁 He's been in trouble on various programmes he's presented before for being offensive and not attracting enough of an audience. The music Alan plays on his radio station tends to be the distinctly uncool world of 70s and 80s experimental rock and pop. Genesis, Wings (Paul McCartney's uncool post Beatles group), ELO and Chris Rea (middle of the road singer) are some of his favourites. Tragically, he still thinks they're cutting edge! It's a similar story with the celebrities he knows. Mostly has beens, and small time TV personalities and hosts. He's kind of a tragic middle aged guy, who's a bit lonely, obnoxious, arrogant and out of touch. Norwich is the largest city in Norfolk, a large county in the East Anglia region of England. It's a mostly rural county, with lots of very flat landscape and fields. Farming is obviously a big thing there and people tend to be country folks.

J
Julian · August 28, 2026

Shots fired. Genesis, Wings, ELO, Chris Rea is all great music. How dare you. I saw Jeff Lynne in concert and can say it’s one of my favourite concerts ever. Also saw Chris Rea a few times. He was actually a blues musician which people might not know by listening to a few of his hits, but he released dozens of blues albums.

J

c
colin mills · August 28, 2026

I think its good to get a negative reaction sometimes it shows truth, to many reaction channels on you tube are so false . personally I don't find it funny I worked on his film papa alfa and struggled to find it funny hes a nice bloke tho , some shows grow on you i didn't like the first 2 of Derek but started to enjoy it after

S
Si · August 28, 2026

I agree with this. I think it's good to see positive and negative reactions. It's strange because many people expect Mike n Jess and other reactors to like everything they like. But then they say what programmes not to react to cause they're rubbish, although M and J might like them 🤷‍♂️ A reactor who squees at everything can't be 100% genuine. I'm British and can't stand Fawlty Towers, gone right off Father Ted and FND, never seen Gavin and Stacey or 99% of Peep Show etc. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, these reactors are the same...

C

Are the rules of Derek going to apply to I'm Alan Partridge? When a few people said they didn't like Derek there was a pile on and a lot of abuse aimed at them. People were told to shut up or f-off, and if they didn't like Derek then simply don't watch it. But now those people who don't like I'm Alan Partridge are encouraging the creators to move on to another show. Shouldn't they simply not watch it like those who don't like Derek were told to do?

Some people enjoy the shows Friends and Big Bang Theory, some people like I'm Alan Partridge. It's not a huge deal. If I felt obligated to watch an episode of Big Bang Theory and pretend that I find it funny, I would want to scratch my eyes out with a rusty garden fork.

E
Emma Edwards · August 28, 2026

You don’t like Big Bang?! 😳 OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!

P
Peter Fletcher · August 28, 2026

I think I know why they're not connecting with Alan Partridge. With a lot of the scripted shows they watch the characters fit with the comedy, whereas in AP the comedy is very much BASED around the characters and the world they create and I don't think they're used to it. There are outliers (The Office, Gavin & Stacey) but that's what I feel.

L
Lolly · August 28, 2026

Alan is David Brent without any social awareness. It's not filmed as a mocumentary so we don't get insights into the other characters. Where David would try to make himself look better in front of the camera, Alan isn't aware how badly he's coming across because he surrounded by people who are at work and must remain professional. He has no friends for obvious reasons.

Bill Oddie gets a lot of mentions in the show, he was famous in the UK in the 70s and early 80s and a regular on prime time TV as part of a comendy trio called The Goodies. By the time this came out in the 90s he was very much has-been from a bygone era. Bill took it as a compliment to get so many name checks from Alan. He died last month aged 85. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Oddie

Not trying to assume, just perhaps wanna highlight why I feel a little disconnect and maybe you will notice a similarity. If you compare this character to Ricky Gervais, somebody who can really test your support for the character, it may be that Ricky has more noticeable redeeming qualities. Moments of genuineness unfortunately drowned out by the need for validation. He actually wants to make people laugh. He just goes to far. I don't see too many redeeming qualities here, yet very funny at times. I guess it's about the 'comeuppance' or embarrassment and that it becomes worth it by the end. I haven't seen it and heard great things from my best mate. That slight push though has me eager to carry on

L
Lolly · August 28, 2026

Are you aware of Richard Madeley? Richard is a real life Alan, hopelessly out of touch and unaware. He has no filter and will just say whatever comes into his head. https://youtu.be/-MvdtUupSik Alan isn't a bad person, he is just all about himself and he has no concept that people don't like him. He thinks he's clever and hip and being a celebrity means everything to him. He will do whatever it takes to claw his way back. David Brent is Alan with enough awareness to filter what he says, even if he still manages to make an ass out of himself

everyone is talking about not getting British references but shows like family guy are full of US references and people I don’t know but it never hurts the show being watched here

J
John Wood · August 28, 2026

The British watch and see a hell of a lot more US TV and news than vice versa. Plus shows like Family Guy tend to mock internationally famous people rather than people that would only be known in America. Nobody in America is going to have a clue who Bill Oddie is for example.

D
Darren W · August 28, 2026

Some comedy only the British brain will truly understand. I do think that AP falls into this category, maybe as does Blackadder to some extent. I love this series, but you really do need to understand the local / national references to fully absorb it. You gave it a try but not sure its your cup of tea.......

Partridge is sort of a drier Ron Burgundy, a pompous, vain, tactless and deluded minor celebrity left behind by time, yet utterly convinced of his own brilliance and bewildered that no one else seems to see it. There's a bit of him in David Brent and Basil Fawlty too in that they're all awkward oddballs confused and frustrated by normalcy. I think Partridge is one of those things that people either get or they don't, it has a big cult following but he also grates a bit on some people. I hope you continue with it because I'm a big fan, but it took a while for it to click with me too.

You're obviously struggling with this show which is fine, it's a very British comedy with a lot of British references. He's based on a number of cringe mid level British presenters that you guys won't have a clue about. I think the main thing you'll struggle with though is the lack of heart in the show. Unlike someone like David Brent, Alan Partridge has very few redeeming qualities, he's not someone you're going to end up rooting for.

Neil Howard · August 28, 2026

The reason Alan probably resonates with us Brits is that he was typicalof the radio/TV presenters from the 80s. Out of touch, borish and full of his own self importance. We all know someone in our local like that as well, boring the pants off you about something they'd read in Top Gear magazine. He's kind of based on a regional TV presenter who went in to host a popular daytime show called Richard Madeley. Again, he was out of touch with the cultural movements of the time, would latch onto things he thought were trendy and what the yoof were doing. He's also very awkward and unintentionally inappropriate with guests and his co presenter, who was also his wife. 30 years on, he's still doing the same on rare times he's on TV. There's loads of cultural references in there that you're never going to get. He's name dropped Bill Oddie a few times. Oddie was a comedian and the same circles as Monty Python but by the time Partridge keeps name dropping him, he's more known as a conservationist and nature program presenter and fairly irrelevant to the youngsters of the day.

C
Cupid Stunt · August 28, 2026

Apparently Alan was partly based on Russell Harty too, particularly when it came to his awkward chat-show format. The Knowing me Knowing Yule tv episode, with the tacky mock-up festive home set was directly inspired by an old Russell Harty Christmas show.

P
Peter Fletcher · August 28, 2026

When you guys drop it there really is no point in doing anymore Partridge, if you don’t enjoy this you won’t enjoy any other AP shows. Not complaining, just stating a fact.

P
Phil Janes · August 28, 2026

Yep, all Partridge is essentially the same no matter the era, you'll either like it or you won't. Probably best to just move on, nobody would enjoy watching them react to something they're not into for two series

H
Helen Francis · August 28, 2026

Never really 'got' Alan Partridge; just didn't find it funny. Loads of my contemporaries remain completely obsessed with it though.

R
Rucky Steve · August 28, 2026

Alan is a bit like Ali G. When you click with the character it gets so good. Just when you think he's gonna say something embarrassing, he some how manages to trump it with something even worse! A lot of the laughs are also due to the characters around him. In a way it's kinda like Alan is mostly the set up and the characters he's interacting with provide the punch lines. Alan is not a lovable character, in fact he's more of a caricature of everything Steve Cogan hates. Which for me is somewhat ironic, as I can't stand Cogan's politics! Still, his performance is first class.

J
Julian · August 28, 2026

I’ve seen AP described as “a tragedy who doesn’t realise he’s in a comedy”. Very insecure man. Terrified of being a failure. Thinks he’s a legend even though nobody likes him. There are definite similarities with Brent.

Hopefully you can give it a couple more. It definitely is a slow burner initially but gets better and better. First season is 1996 so feels more dated. 2nd season was 2002 and the movie is 2013 so big changes in production and no laughter track as the years go.

Kathy Hills · August 28, 2026

Steve Coogan is an immensely talented actor - see his films - absolutely wonderful. But. I just can't bear Alan Partridge. I gave it a shot this morning but really couldn't stick with it. I think here he is trying to do what Ricky Gervaise does so effortlessly, but it just doesn't hack it for me. And I really think the canned laughter doesn't help. I'll be giving this one a miss I think, but I love most of your other reactions. Well done for sticking with this.

T
Tom Turner · August 28, 2026

I feel like these old British TV shows are always going to go to the top of the polls... I'm 35 and I don't understand the references in this show. Think you should just watch the things you enjoy and don't worry too much about what we're all talking about. If it feels like a chore for you, it feels like a chore for us to watch. Just watch whatever you guys are feeling and we'll be feeling it too

N
Neil's Old Radios · August 28, 2026

So you'd have been 6 when this first aired. When I was 6 the current comedies would have been stuff like Dad's Army and Steptoe and Son. I can still watch those and find them funny, though. But that's possibly because we had to sit and watch as a family: there was no individual viewing device and no "catch-up". As a result the comedies had to be appropriate for family viewing (disguising the stuff only adults would get). I think once the shows could be more targeted at specific age groups, they feel out-of-date much more quickly. I'd never suggest either Dad's Army or Steptoe for this channel as they really are out of date for most people now. I have to admit that I hadn't realised that, for people of your age and below, Alan Partridge now falls into the same category.

P

I personally don't agree with a lot of the comments here - I think it's still early in them adapting to it, Mikes still not feeling well, but he seemed to be vibing more towards the end of the episode. You are not really supposed to like Alan... There is a difference between British/European and American sense of humour. Conan O'brien loves Alan Partridge, and Conan also said he was disliked by America in the Beginning (I know Conan is American, but he goes on about his Irish roots). You are supposed to not really like Alan, and Laugh at his interactions. Most of the people around him are either with him because he gives them money or some service. His references are supposed to go over your heads and are about little known people. Anyway, if you dont like it, you don't like it 👍🙂

I can see Mike is trying to find the hook… My theory, which may be semi-controversial - is since you watched The Office before this it may have diluted it for you… David Brent is a bit of an extension of Alan in character terms, albeit a bit more sophisticated and less train wrecky, so it’s taken the edge off a bit… I have always thought they’re basically the same character, give or take… Just an observation but the thought crossed my mind… Good work for having a crack at it… 👍

It will be disappointing, but I can always watch it on my own for the millionth time. It has to work for Mike and Jess otherwise their reactions will feel awkward and forced and no one wants that. Hoping it clicks for them soon otherwise I fear it might get cancelled. The next episode is probably the decider, as it's a great episode: Watership Alan. 🤞🤞
