was that a fart at 52:42 LOL
yep agreed and you never sit that close too some ones wife I know they are just acting tho
I remember being on what was called the pirates outing of Richards shipbuilders Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, an annual event, we got on the coach early in the morning, remember getting a landlady to open a pub at 10.30am, we have a guys who played guitar and another on an accordion, singing songs while drinking, day out in town and puds on the way home with singing in the bars, I remember hearing people calling friends telling them to get down the pub to be part of great atmosphere, happy days. And Margate has great memories for me as a child from my dads home movies, all silent https://youtu.be/04uSjw2rq0c?is=WPCKlqDhnBNpQvoj
I'm just waiting for, ok only fools and horses is the greatest show I've ever watched!!
This for me was the start of the new era of OFAH, there is a lot to come but this for me is where we said goodbye to the old grandad generation. I couldnt believe this aired the year I was born!
Does anyone know why Mike and Jess don't react to films? Considering their love for English culture, you'd think Guy Ritchie's three movies—Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and The Gentlemen—would be an epic viewing experience for them. Surely, that's worth a monkey? 🐵
They’ve mainly been watching comedy shows and they’ve watched a couple of films related to the shows (Inbetweeners movies, Borat for the Sacha Baron Cohen stuff they’ve watched, and David Brent Life on the Road which was obviously linked to The Office. They have very busy lives and it’s difficult for them to find the time to sit through a movie, although they haven’t ruled them out. I think they’re planning to watch the cornetto trilogy at some point in the future but I’m not sure about non comedy movies.
Is it wrong that I joined Patreon to catch Jess's reaction to Raquel's return? Meanwhile, I see my boy Big Mike is at it again, peeling onions 🧅.
At the end of the scene where Del and Raquel were talking at the bar, the band were playing ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me’ – from a very romantic moment in a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie (‘Shall We Dance’). https://genius.com/Fred-astaire-and-ginger-rogers-they-cant-take-that-away-from-me-lyrics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3uSRyMloFQ
Drizzle Guts, I know it is 2 parts, but on the dvd it's all in one, and it says the movie, ur rite to 2nd part is much better
After season 7, u will love ' Miami Twice' it's classed as a movie, can't wait to see ur reaction to that
just an FYI! the radio player Del trying to sell at the start one of them ended up in the coach, being on brand of it being 'dodgy' it causes an electrical fault & catches fire! thus leading the coach to blowing up! I can't believe looking back the '67' on the BnB was just way ahead of it's time haha!
Del Boy is so misunderstood imo. His character has matured and we see all the underhand stuff he did previously was all from the heart. Even when misguided and doing wrong it was always for a greater good. I think the intention was to grow Rodney mentally and provide a strength of character people could rely on and feel safe around him whilst he assumed the role of leader. Deep down its an act though. Hes actually quite vulnerable. I feel Del is that old romantic that believes in chivalry. It was so sad to see him alone when Rodney got married. It was as though he lost purpose. Like he was no longer needed and left you feeling what's gonna happen to him now. Great reaction. I love the chemistry between you both. You make a great couple and have a soft playful way about your nature.
I do love the jolly boys outing but my all time favourite comes much later and is called Miami twice😋😋😋
Not sure if anyone has mentioned but the little boy who was laughing at Albert when he crashed the boat is the late Patrick Murray's (who played Mickey Pearce) real life son!
The cast's families went with hem to Margate. The little boy playing with the boats with Uncle Albert is Micky Pierce's son in real life
The Kylie album in the episode is her debut album from 1987. If Dell still had a few of these they would be worth a few quid, It includes her iconic debut single 'I Should Be So Lucky'. Some other classic tracks in the last 39 years include 'Better The Devil You Know', 'Shocked', 'Confide In Me', 'Did It Again', 'Spinning Around', 'Om a Night Like This' ,'Kids' (Duet with Robbie Williams), 'Can't Get You Out Of Your Head', 'Slow' and '100 Degrees' (with sister Dannii Minogue' and her 2025 Christmas no,1 'XMAS', to na,e just a few...
Kylie will celebrate 40 years in the music industry next year. She is the only artist to have a no.1 album in the UK for 5 condrcutive decades (80s-20s).
Interesting note if not mentioned already. the actor who played The Great Ramondo was one of the main writers for Mr Bean.
Regarding kylie minogue im pretty sure shes the only artist to have a number one album across 5 different decades (80's, 90's, 00's, 10's 20's)
Jess's reaction to the sudden return of Raquel was so worth the wait 😊
Mike suggesting that the door number 67 is maybe a reference of it being the seventh episode of series six was an interesting spot that I never noticed before. Is he maybe the first to spot a very well hidden easter egg, or is it just a coincidence?
Definitely just coincidence
Apologies if this has already been mentioned but the actress that plays Cassandra's mum is Benedict Cumberbatch's mum
I'm from Margate and still live there. Unfortunately the amusement park and the town is not what it used to be. The UK coastal resort towns aren't the thriving attractions they were in the 20th century.
My sister and her husband recently went to Margate as part of a Jolly Boys Outing Tour afew months ago lol We live in Ireland but I got her into the show, so much shes obsessed now too lol. As you say, its sad that so many coastal resort towns are slowly dying.
I’ve been counting down the days to you two finally watching my favourite OFAH episode. Couldn’t wait to see your reaction to Raquel returning. Loved as well your reaction to when Albert says ‘Someone chucked a suitcase through a window!’ The next episode is Rodney Come Home before series 7. Some people who have reacted to OFAH have unintentionally reacted to series 7 before Rodney Come Home. Imagine telling all the actors in 1989 that the OFAH legacy would live on, and nearly 40 years later people all over the world on YouTube and Patreon would be reacting to it. Sending love from England my American cousins 🏴🇺🇸
Great Episode. One of the best. Love that Kylie album by the way - 6 singles from a debut album!
Only Fools at this point was massive, I’ve always thought the run from Dates — Series 6 — Jolly Boys was as near to sitcom perfection as you can get. Don’t get me wrong, there are still some bangers to come as well!
29:00 "the other bar" - it was common in British pubs to have a Lounge Bar and a Public Bar. Lower standards of behaviour (more rowdiness, swearing, etc.) would be expected in the Public whereas the Lounge would be a quieter atmosphere. This distinction is rare nowadays.
the show just gets better after this even tho its close to the end
Rodney is a thug who should be locked up with del
Bit harsh! lol
need to watch this again i had a really bad hangover yesterday morning , cheers dave and jess , and all the lads remember jess lol
Other bar means the other literal bar you get served at in the pub, it’s not uncommon for even fairly small pubs to have two bars / different sections. The bar area may be in the middle of all of them though
This is by far my favourite episode apart from the obvious one that I wont talk about so not to spoil it.
I love your suit !!
Morning Mike and Jess Morning all I sneakily watched what I thought was the next episode last night . I've seen them all countless times before . I realised there was an episode missing . The next episode as far as I know is " Rodney Come Home " listed as series 7 episode 0 on idmb . Please don't make the mistake I did lol . Keep up the amazing work ❤️
The real friends are the dolphins we lost along the way.
Pause at 23:52 if you want to see Ugandan Morris, Sunglasses Ron, Paddy the Greek and Monkey Harris.
As long as there isn't any questions about Moors or Moops, Seinfeld style
Chas and Dave, who sing the end credits song, were originally meant to sing Hooky Street the main theme but were on tour at the time. They sing a lot of other cockney songs.
I have the same feeling about Kylie Minogue
What are the chances, this is my favourite episode and you dropped this episode on my birthday, of all days. Absolute great end to the day 🫶🏻 anticipated you guys seeing Raquel the whole episode. The episodes only get better from here. In love with the reactions, all the best guys 💙
Mike & Jess, I loved your reaction to seeing Raquel, as I remember the episode where Raquel leaves & Jess was quite sad that she had gone. I knew what would happen going forward & I’m sure like everyone else was waiting for this episode, not only for all the shenanigans & funny scenes but also that moment when Del & Raquel finally met up again.
Jess's face when she realized it was Raquel was exactly why we were hyping this up for so long. You kept mentioning that you were so sad del was alone. Tears 😊
Great episode! Bonnet de douche!
Love it! I’ve been waiting so long for you to see this episode! It’s my favourite episode, but mainly, because I couldn’t wait to see how happy Jess would be when she saw Raquel! I’ve been rewatching that scene over and over just for Jess’s reaction!
Rachel (Tessa Peake-Jones) trying not to laugh when Del says oh you mean you’re a bit.. at 1:27:29 is brilliant, and to show what great actress she is, goes straight back to her lines, pure magic
Always wondered why Marlene says about Rodney "He managed to keep that job!?", have I missed something where his career was under threat?
She expected Rodney to mess up and lose the job long before then.
Oh my gosh! I went on that Mary Rose ride at Margate when I was a kid in the 90s, dunno if it was called the same but oh my I recognise it golly brought back a blast from the past!
I know you guys don't do music reactions anymore but I genuinely saw you both head bopping to this fantastic song during this reaction https://youtu.be/kGrnEc_3mYo?is=l_2BJQVtAO4QHl-x maybe you guys could give it a listen and let's us know what you think 🙂
Next week is another special Rodney Come Home and there is a scene in it which I know Jess is going to pause it as she will laugh sooo much 🤣🤣
One of the best reactions
Why? I didn't say anything that spoils anything calm down
Born in margate, spent many a summer days in dreamland/ bembon brothers. My sister was there when it was filmed.probably bullshitting 🤣.
The music is by the cockney legends chas and dave
Mike looks really smart in a suit lol, he should wear that on a date night with jess 👍😊 this is my fav episode, and raquel is back!
Its been a long time coming back when we were watching go west season 1 episode 1. Were finally in the goldy locks zone
Some more trivia: The young boy who laughs at Uncle Albert on the boating lake in Margate is actually the real-life son of Patrick Murray, who played Mickey Pearce. The drummer performing inside the Mardi Gras nightclub scene is Alf Bigden. He also played the drums for the iconic opening and closing themes of Only Fools and Horses.
My favourite episode. All the characters and all the different places they visit. Only gripe with the episode is that they didn’t invite little Lennox Gilby 😂 aka the shadow. But being a bank holiday, he was probably working in the supermarket….
Everyone, including the studio audience, always misses the quadrophonic speaker joke at the start. If there's only two speakers it's not quadrophonic, quadraphonic sound requires four speakers. It's all in the name. Also, fun piece of trivia: Jake Wood - Rodney's trainee - was very nearly Super Hans in Peep Show. Anyway, love this one. The montage/Midnight Cowboy homage with Nilsson is gorgeously melancholy.
In the shot of Rodney, Denzil and Mickey on the spinning ride at the fair you can more or less lip-read what Denzil is screaming 🤣
My heart is full
“It was so cold the flame on my lighter froze “ Absolute class line that. Feel like u guys missed it 😂😂
1:20:45 Don't know if you got the reference about it being so cold that Del and Rodney had just met a brass monkey crying it's eyes out. There's an expression that says 'it's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.'
'It's taters outside' = cold Taters in the mould, which is the way potatoes are grown with soil earthed up around them in a mould or ridge. I only learned this recently and I'm a potato farmer! 🥔 🥔 🥔
I have watched this episode sooo many times and this is the first time I've realised that the coach driver sating he was overcome by fumes could have been from the radio malfunctioning. I always thought he was just pissed 😀
You need to check out 'Rabbit' by Chas'n'Dave, I'm sure it will resonate with Mike
I really enjoyed rewatching that with you guys - wonderful reactions! Still plenty more joy to look forward to!
Definitely my favourite OFAH episode great storyline
Amazing show! Amazing episode. So many wee twists and turns and surprises and when you see Raquel, what a scene!
Mike's got his Zoot suit on
To knock someone up has an alternative meaning in the UK. Back before people had reliable alarm clocks, you could employ someone to wake you by tapping on your window at a scheduled time. They were called knocker uppers. So to knock someone up is to wake someone up, not get them pregnant
victorian times I think wasnt it? I like watching stuff about victorian times
Watching you guys react to that was pure magic! I've seen this so many times but watching it with you makes it seem brand new I'm sure it's been said before but you two make my week ❤️
Mike, that's a fly blue suit. Great effort. You should wear it for every show , LOL.
Mike and Jess, yes Kylie Minogue had her 1st hit over here in the UK 'I Should Be So Lucky' in early 1988 which hit no. 1. It was on the back of her being known for her role in the Aussie soap 'Neighbours' which was massively popular from the mid 80's on. Rodney mentioned he was watching it in the earlier ep. when Del was in the Doctor's surgery and didn't want to give Del a lift to the hospital 'I don't care if Neighbours has just started!'
To expand on this and put into context the enormous popularity/cultural significance of Neighbours, the year before this episode of OFAH aired about twenty million people watched the episode in which her character got married.
THE ENDING SONGWell I've been working hard to reach me target To earn a few bob for a day trip down to Margate I'm gonna blow the lot tomorrow on all me family We catch the coach at eight so don't be late, we're off to see the sea Hurry up will ya Grandad, come on were going Down to Margate Don't forget your buckets and spades and cossies and all Down to Margate We'll have a pill of jellied eels at the cockle stall Down to Margate We'll go on the pier and we'll have a beer aside of the sea Down to Margate You can keep the Costa Brava, I'm telling ya mate I'd rather have a day down Margate with all me family Along the promenade we spend some money Then we find a spot on the beach that's simply sunny The kids will all enjoy themself digging up the sand Collecting stones and winkle shells to take back home to nan Behave yourself grandad, or you won't be going Down to Margate Don't forget your buckets and spades and cossies and all Down to Margate We'll have a pill of jellied eels at the cockle stall Down to Margate We'll go on the pier and we'll have a beer aside of the sea Down to Margate You can keep the Costa Brava, I'm telling ya mate I'd rather have a day down Margate with all me family You can keep the Costa Brava and all that palava Going no farther, me I'd rather have a day down Margate with all me family.
The end theme was performed by a little known British pop group called Iron Maiden. They also played the theme tune to another British comedy, Last of the Summer Wine.
🎣
This time next year ul have a million subscribers. Great reaction
I was surprised to realise that this is the first episode where Albert says "During the war".
Only fools and horses series 6 and 7
Is that Boycie loitering behind Del, Marlene, and Cassandra in the market, or does he have a doppelganger? 👀🤔
Watching your reactions when Raquel came on!! So good. And loving the blue suit.
Honestly, waiting for these seven weeks to pass for you to see Raquel reappear has been agony! Even more so when you noted that she was not even mentioned in the following episode after her first appearance in Dates. It was well worth the wait, and it was such a beautiful moment when you saw that it was her. Horrible Grandma was a bonus too. This just epitomises why you're both by far the best and most authentic reactors. Mike, you look great in that blue suit. I think a lot of the cast deemed this to be their favourite episode too, because it's one where they are all together .
I'm amazed and pleased it didn't get spoiled 😀
The end song down to margit "Down to margate, is from a North London Cockney speaking music duo Chas and Dave...they sing catchy songs, that rhyme and use all Cockney Rhyming slang. Maybe you should check them out. Not for reactions but for the feel good factor. I always whack them on when i need motivation for doing the housework. They were good friends of my recent departed Dad, I met them numerous times growing up and they also played a few numbers at my Sisters wedding. I got quite emotional watching this episode with you guys....This was Only Fools at it's peak and in my opinion proved that this was the greatest Sitcom of all time. Not just in the U.K but the world x
Since dates, ive been waiting for Jess to see Raquel come back 🤗 My friend has a butterfly ring too, Jess.
What i get from his episode is Americans have trust issues lol great reaction as always
I love how after he punches Steven he looks at Joanne and goes "alright Joanne?"
If you liked the outro music by Chas & Dave check out this YouTube playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXvGYk8-N5VBPCCrsMMI-_VNVD4O09De5&si=8lnA6fPIgKVU7Ji2
Oh you legend Mike,My Trigger suit challenge was not only accepted by you but you smashed it out the park as you yanks say😜 , lovely jubbly 👏👍. I love this episode not only for the boys all getting out and having a laugh together but because of how important it is for the overall story arc, seeing Raquel back in Dels life is the best part of this episode and why it's in my top 5 episodes. There are better episodes than this but as I said it the fact Delboys love interest returns is why it's great for me.
Blue suits were all the rage there a few years ago. It's mad to think they mocked Triggs in the 80s when fashion was far more outlandish. I think he looks dapper.
Was looking forward to seeing your faces when Raquel returned 😀 and it was 100% worth the wait.
"It'll be even better when the singer comes on" 🤣 I loved seeing Jess's face reaction when Del recognizes Raquel on stage.
You need triggers dolphin lol. I have so looked forward to your reaction to this episode, and it did not disappoint. This is one of the best episodes, but I feel you need to see all the previous episodes to get ready fo it, to understand the great relationships between them and how much fun they were having. Loving the characters just makes this episode so amazing and fun
I think it's unfair to say everything Del touches goes wrong 🔥🔥
57:52 it’s horrible grandma!
Jake woods, the ginger guy at 15mins in is someone you may see in future. But I never realised how many things he appears in like this haha
Daniel Hill who payed Steven is such a great actor, he's very good at playing that sort of character A show you might enjoy in which he stars is a 90s BBC sitcom set in an old folks home called Waiting For God. It is hilarious and Daniel is great as the guy who runs the home Harvey.
I believe kylie minoge is about to hit 60. She just released a new song called “these alarms”. Along side a 90s band called “snow patrol”. She really had been around for ever haha and still going well.i didn’t know who she was when this came out. I would of been like 4 but provably danced to her music as a kid haha
Chas and Dave who sang the ending song "Down to Margate" we're originally supposed to sing the shows theme tune.
57:00 u can see Jess recognise horrible grandma. :D
The guy playing Steve does a great job in this episode, he gets the smug twat persona perfectly.
Well done to everyone for not ruining it for them regarding Raquel’s return. It’s been hard seeing Jess keep mentioning Raquel since the Dates episode, knowing Jess is in for a surprise in the Jolly boys outing👌
Well done Emma for deleting all the spoilers
The ending theme song was written by Chas and Dave, a cockney folk band. They were originally asked to perform the theme songs on the series.
Back in the 1960s Margate was one of the places where Mods and Rockers fought on the beaches, and in fact, in 1964 it was the scene of one of the worst riotings ever. My friend at the time was dating a Mod called Muff and she travelled to Margate regularly to see him. I, on the other hand, was a Mod dating a Rocker so we kept a low profile. 🤘
I know. I lived 22 miles away in Eastbourne at the time.
I get slightly teary watching this and just thinking that my dad watched this when it first came out and he lived in those times doing the stuff they are doing in the show.
Denzil's displeasure on that Mary Rose ride isn't acting. Nicholas Lyndhurst has said it's a good thing they weren't recording sound, because he was sat next to him, and could hear exactly what he was screaming!
It's amazing that this is the episode you're watching on Patreon while 'Dates' is the one released on Youtube today. *chefs kiss*
Mike - you look very handsome in your suit! Jess - it's a great episode and well-loved but I think the real reason we were all dying for you to see this was to see your reaction to a certain person showing up in it! Pure joy! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! xxx
Best episode ever!
I am not a Yuppy You are Steven, you are
I have lost count of the number of times I’ve watched this episode it must be over 50, this reaction was Fantastic, the best reaction ever.. so glad it was the proper episode as well and not the butchered for copyright version.
Unfortunately it doesn't get better than this (though still lots of awesome episodes to come!). Yeah Kylie Minogue was around in 1989. She has her first UK hit in 1988 and moved here not too many years later. She's an honorary Brit :) Great to see Raquel return - something I've been waiting to see you react to! So many twists of fate that led to it. Probably the biggest was Mike bumping into his old pal (the nightclub owner) otherwise no one would have known to go there and they wouldn't have seen Raquel.
It was interesting that Mike brought up Tír na nÓg when talking about Kylie because Minogue is an Irish name.
The answer is a Pen, Bic are a company that makes Pen’s
Two more clip of Victor Meldrew from " One Foot In The Grave" with his popular catchphrase " I Don't Believe It " - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FVAX166QwrU&t=8s&pp=ygUidmljdG9yIG1lbGRyZXcgSSBEb24ndCBCZWxpZXZlIEl0IA%3D%3D , and this one of Victor Meldrew https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_SMi4-x2Ff8&t=9s&pp=ygUPdmljdG9yIG1lbGRyZXcg
To think most of the nation watched this on Christmas Day, times have certainly changed. Excellent Marvel connection for you Mike, Cassandra's mother is Wanda Ventham who is Benedict Cumberbatch's mother.
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched this episode, but it’s certainly beyond fifty. It never ages and it never fails to make me feel happier. One of the UK’s finest ever comedy episodes ever produced, without a doubt. So glad you loved it too and I hope that in future times, just like me, you’ll revisit the Jolly Boys Outing to get the wonderful, warm vibes it brings. ❤️
Mike looking fabulous
One more clip of " Hyacinth Bucket pronounced Bouquet 💐) in "Keeping Up Apperances ". Well worth watching imo if you want a good old laugh - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8LwX4RUOAgI&t=89s&pp=ygUma2VlcGluZyB1cCBhcHBlYXJhbmNlcyBoeWFjaW50aCBidWNrZXQ%3D
Favourite episode + favourite reactors = perfect Sunday morning. Loved your reaction to Raquel returning, and your lovely reaction to Albert putting Tyler to sleep when he says he hopes he doesn’t get war medals. It’s such a lovely, bittersweet moment. This show is full of them.
I've been waiting for this 😍 one of the best TV specials of anything ever
I love how much Jess loved this episode ❤️
Unless I am very much mistaken, Fabrique Belgique means a Belgian factory.
More a clumsy way of saying made in Belgium. 🇧🇪 you’d expect del to be clumsy. Factory is usine
Hey Grizzle, what's the next episode?
Isn’t Rodney Come Home technically the start of S7 since it follows a week later?
If you decide to watch and react to " The Royle Family " here is a few clips of the lazy dad Jim Royle and the lazy daughter Denise Royle as well as rest of the Royle Family - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EMwSDXJL2II&pp=ygURVGhlIFJveWxlIEZhbWlseSA%3D , https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v2sGEASNr7M&pp=ygUcVGhlIFJveWxlIEZhbWlseSBqaW0gbXkgYXJzZQ%3D%3D
Welcome to the Patreon. I don't want to temper your excitement but you shouldn't really be spamming links in the comments. Generally the shows are chosen via a poll, or a shortlist. Plus, if they click on your links, it'll deny us the whole point of the channel, the 'first time reaction'.
Waiting for jess to see raquel was pure gold lol. Mike and jess u have seen this once, we have all seen this a hundred times and it only gets better each time lol
We need to get you some 'Kiss me quick, squeeze me slow' hats. See them on sale at all the seaside resorts here.
Always catches me out that Rodney's a southpaw, looks like he's clenching his right fist
Ahhh The Jolly Boys. Absolutely amazing episode. Great reaction as always!
Can't wait to see your reaction 😁
Probably my favourite reaction you’ve done. Such a great episode. On a train to London and the journey has flown by.
Sir David Jason said this is his favourite ep as it has every character in it and as a lot have passed now he likes to watch it to remember them all 💖
I have now upgraded and it's great to see you watching and reacting to one of our best, most poular and really hilarious English, British comedys " Only Fools And Horses " here on patreon and on youtube. However I also highly recommend " Keeping Up Apperances " with the biggest snob in the world Hyacinth Bucket pronounced Bouquet that her poor neighbours and most of all her poor husband Richard Bucket as to put up with.
the fact raquels return WASNT spoiled for you made my heart happy :) and honestly ive seen this episode so many times but watching it with you guys made it feel FRESH and i love that, thanks guys :)
My grandmother lived in Eltham but owned a holiday house in Margate. I think it was handed down to her. She used to take the train down there all the time. I went a lot. Great going there as a child. She passed away 10ish years ago. The house sold for a packet. This episode always brings back memories. Those bags of chips! The rides…
Down to Margate!
roll on Miami Twice now lol
I’m waiting so patiently too we need it now😂👍
Perfect episode and a perfect reaction . What an absolute joy this was , an all time classic and a great reaction to match. Mike’s plea at Rodney’s wedding last week that Del deserved to find love was answered! Seeing both your genuine heartfelt reaction to that was brilliant . You never forgot Raquel and both held a soft spot for her ! The jolly boys outing has everything, brilliant comedy, genuine feel good warmth and that wonderful sense of camaraderie between the characters. Pure nostalgia and only fools and horses at its very best.
This is my favourite episode too it’s been torture trying not to say anything leading up to this on Raquel return to the show
that "its so cold, we just bumped into a brass monkey crying its eyes out" joke always get me. There's a common phrase here "its so cold, it could freeze the balls off a brass monkey"
Amazing...been waiting for this reaction from day one❤️ Great suit for Mike hope he finds his 🐬for next week🤣🍻
Next episode is around a year later than this one - came out in December 1990
Albert threatening the cat 😹
I love this episode. I don't think I have ever seen the scene in the nightclub with the singer before, on the DVD I bought it just cut straight to Raquel and the great Raymondo.
I was looking forward to this one just to see the look on Jess’s face when she saw Raquel was back 🥹❤️ Great episode and reaction guys ❤️
There is no doubt that this is most peoples' favourite OFAH episode, but I would go further than that, I think of this as very likely the best 90 mins of television ever. Incredibly funny, but lovely and touching in places. I was 26 when it came out, the peak of my powers!!! A mum and dad who were still fit and fighting, in an England that was so much closer to perfection than now.....I long for those days......
it's a very melancholy episode in alot of ways. sadly alot of the actors are no longer with us and that Britain has long gone so it's a bit of a time capsule really
Absolute classic
The end-credits music was performed by Chas & Dave, a duo who had several hits in the 70s and 80s, including a song called 'Gertcha' which is what you hear Uncle Albert say to the cat at the B&B.
Seen a lot of reactors in the past miss the next episode 'Rodney Come Home' and go straight to series 7. Make sure you don't miss it! :D
Loving the extra touches you both bring to the reactions with the outfits. Loving Mike's suit on this one.
cant wait season 7 is great . what i love about ofah unlike fawlty towers and phoenix nights etc. where they have to compact as much laughs into a 25 min episode but no story . this has a story every little detail from first season that even contributes to season 7-8 . so its not all about having a laugh every second . that would of put us off if anything . just a masterclass of everything from mr sullivan
I think 25 min run time works for Fawlty Towers and Phoenix Nights because they are chaotic whereas John's writing style is more relaxed and rambling. There are great one liners but so much of the humour comes from conversarion pieces which need time to pay out. The best decision they made was extending the run time.
Jess, your face when you first saw Raquel again. Priceless. I’m sure everyone was dying to let you know that you’d see Raquel once more, but thankfully no one spoiled it for you and her reveal and your reaction to it was wonderful. No spoilers but Jess, you are going to so fall in love with season 7. So many great things happen and there are a number of brilliantly written episodes that a lot of OFAH fans would put very high up in their list of favourite episodes. Can’t wait to see the reactions from you and Mike.
Well tbf if Cassandra had an affair, the man she's seeing wouldn't be to blame, she'd be to blame because she's married to Rodney. So she's the one who should be faithful to Rodney not the guy Cass is sleeping with. So punching the guy makes no sense, And it means Rodney doesn't trust Cassandra.
As little as it is, I have always loved when Del Boy steals the spot on the sofa from Rodney. Such an older sibling move (and I say that as a younger sibling!)
Absolute peak OFAH, seen it so many times and it’s still the best. So many great moments and quotes that I still hear to this day, glad you both enjoyed it. Mike’s suit is Fabrique Belgique👌🏻
Everyone was putting this episode on a pedal stool. I’m glad it didn’t go down like a damp squid.
😂
Jess, your reaction when you spotted Raquel is the moment I was waiting for. You're such an old romantic.
I had an old colleague years ago who told me not long after this ep he and his pals went to Bordeaux in France since they'd gone during the '98 world cup etc. They printed t-shirts with "The Jolly Boys Outing" and after a couple of days noticed folk were giggling at them so when they asked a barman what was going on he said "over here jollie means the homosexual"
as soon as I here 2 4 6 8 I know it's go time!
Whats max branning doing on my screen
It's Raquel the Stripper 😆 I quote Jolly Boys lines all the time at work. Brilliant, brilliant episode. Time on our Hands, Heroes and Villains all brilliant Christmas specials also. Just 1 season left now then loads of Christmas specials to look forward to.
I knew Jess would love it when Raquel showed up. Every time she's mentioned Raquel through S6 I've thought about that moment.
Yes, and I was waiting with baseball bat in hand for anyone who tried to spoil it in the comments.
Heard so much about this one but never seen it. So looking forward to watching it.
.............'where all going on a beano to Margate'......... perfectly timed line!!!! 😂😂
A trait you see throughout the show is that Rodney’s humour often comes from his reactions - to something Del says, a comment from Trigger, or whatever situation he finds himself in. With Del, by contrast, the comedy often comes from the things he does and the situations he creates. Both actors are superb at bringing those different styles of humour to life.
Chas and Dave were meant to sing the Only Fools and Horses theme tune but they just had a massive and surprise hit with Ain't no Pleasing You. So, John Sullivan had to sing it himself.
I hope you do rock and chips after
“Fabrique Belgique” - made in Belgium, or rather Del’s slight twist on it. Stephen said “Afrique-sur-Mer” - Africa on Sea
Love this episode and your reaction guys. Margate has changed a lot since filming. The pub they stopped in, The Roman Galley, is no longer a pub. The road you see as the coach pulls in is now a dual carriageway and Dreamland was closed down for a while. It’s now reopened but to a lesser extent. I have many memories of those places as a child of days out in the 70s and 80s.
Please listen to more Chas n Dave.. cultural icons 🤩
🐇🐰🐇🐰
The song at the end was by Chaz and Dave, who had a Cockney Rock and Roll band. It was seen as a bit of a novelty at the time and was great at parties. They had quite a few hits and were very popular especially in London and the surrounding counties. Both had been session musicians for years and appeared on many songs that you will definitely have heard. Also the bass line by Dave on a Labi Siffre song was sampled for "My Name Is" by Eminem. Jess would love the song "Ain't No Pleasing You" by them, they were a lot of fun and my respect for them has only grown over the years from where I used to think they were just a novelty.
I loved ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’. I should give them a listen again.
The Great Raymondo is played by Robin Driscoll who co wrote episodes of Mr Bean with Rowan Atkinson
They are playing it as a parallel between what Del and Rodney did. I don’t see it. Rodney had a lot more of a basis for the conclusion he jumped to.
Made my day waking up to this. Loved the reaction
This is my hangover cure every Sunday 👌
One night is was so cold the flame on my lighter froze 😂 classic line🤣
Del’s impersonation of Dustin Hoffman’s walk from Midnight Cowboy is classic!!
It was so difficult watching you both watch the end of Dates thinking Raquel was gone and wasn't coming back. I was DYING to see your reaction to her return. It's made my Sunday.
That’s mainly why I’ve been looking forward to this one
Racheal is back...and now it begins
It only gets better
Love this episode but also makes me sad knowing alot of the cast isn’t with us anymore.
With all the incessant yapping on this comment section..im so happy nobody told you about Raquel 😂
Same, have been dreading it
Aaaand Del is immediately lying to her again.
Allo Trigg
I wonder if uncle Albert saying gertcha to the cat was because of chas and Dave doing the song for the episode?
It was just a more common phrase/noise at the time for cockneys to use
This was watched by over 20 million viewers and arguably one of the best episodes in any British TV series. By this point, you know the characters so well, it’s just like going on a trip to the seaside with old friends, made even more poignant by many of the actors no longer being with us. The cast and crew did such a brilliant job of encapsulating that feel good energy in the montage. Plus I knew the return of Raquel would make you guys so happy. Perfect reaction to a masterpiece!
The most impressive thing about that number is the population of the UK at the time. Around 57 million people, that means roughly 35% of the population was doing exactly the same thing for an hour and a half. I don't think any other comedy comes close to these numbers. Even more impressive, a future episode has a much higher percentage of concurrent viewers.
been looking forward to this one for Jess
Great episode and love the suit mike. The extra effort you guys make keeps your channel ahead of the rest! Thanks mike and jess
fabrique belgique = made in Belgium
Horrible grandma!
Rosalind Knight (horrible Grandma) was my dream casting for Granny Weatherwax. She’s passed now though. RIP.
Great call.
Tom Robinson band - 2 4 6 8 Motorway and Nielsen - Everybody’s Talkin, are two great songs on my number one playlist.
Omg that suit. I need one!!
Kylie Minogue came onto the scene in 1987. Her first song was a number one hit.
That’s a weird coincidence. Del used the word “breakkers” for breakfast, and I was just earlier trying to think where I’d heard that phrase before.
Lovely jubbly xx
Steven is what I imagine a lot of Americans think all English people are like 🤮
Oh Mike! Where's your best jumper to go with your mohair suit?? 🤣🤣 love that trigger quote
This episode is always bittersweet, reminds me of a time that's long gone It's just a different world now
One of the best episodes! Could watch it any time and it's always funny
Originally the coach was just meant to have broken down, but John Sullivan had said that, during a night out with the director Tony Dow, after a couple of drinks, Dow just said ‘Let’s just blow the fucking thing up!’. So Sullivan immediately got on the phone to the production team about this change before Dow had a chance to sober up and change his mind. Also, you’ll notice the sirens after the explosion were all real. Even though they had informed the police and fire service in Margate about what they were going to do, the explosion was so loud, it could be heard from about 10 miles away, so they had all the police the fire crews from all the other places around Margate rushing towards them because they thought it was a terrorist attack.
ayyy what a morning
Just started this but pausing to add that Kylie Minogue made her name acting in Australian soap Neighbours in the mid-80s, when she was about 16. It’s through her fame in Neighbours that she got into music, as she was offered cheesy pop songs, feeding off the sudden popularity. From the 90s onwards, her music career became more serious and of higher quality.
Ah yes, this is arguably the single greatest episode of any sitcom/comedy programme ever. It is my favourite of the show ❤️
fabrique belgique
Most of Del’s phrases do mean things, they just don’t fit or mean what he says. He’s called out on it once when he says “bouillabaisse mon ami”, and Rodney goes “that means ‘fish stew my friend!’”
Omg young Jake Wood from Eastenders
ahhhhh i kew i recongnised him omg
I feel like this episode is so overhyped but still excited to watch it when I finish work!!
Wait how do Mike and Jess know about Tir na Nog 😅 I thought that was a niche Irish thing we were taught in school
Titanic 😉
They’ve retconned Albert’s past a little. In the first episode he appeared, Rodney and Del said his stories were clearly lies, and in the second one, this was confirmed when prosecutor said he spent most of the war in a storage depot on the Isle of Wight. “Hardly overseas”. “You wanna try walking it, pal”.
Back in series 4 he was very much a modified grandad but by the time Hull and Back came around he became very much his own character
I have been looking forward to this one ever since you guys started reacting to the show. 😁
Possibly my favourite episode apart from the 1996 trilogy special
It was wrapped up well with those episodes. Can't understand that some people don't even like OFaH let alone LOVE it.
There’s a reason this is plenty of peoples’ favourite episode. It’s a nostalgic throwback to a world that no longer exists, when groups of mates would pile onto a coach and go on annual seaside ‘beanos’ to Blackpool or Margate. It’s just a pure feel-good episode with the entire cast involved and plenty of hilarious lines, iconic set pieces and heartwarming moments. The montage of the group enjoying the day in Margate is absolutely beautiful, David Jason has called it his favourite moment from the entire series. Just a group of friends having a great time, you can tell in most of the shots they aren’t acting. Coupled with the fact that most of the Jolly Boys sadly are no longer with us, the whole scene is a beautiful but also heartbreaking mix of nostalgia, joy and melancholy.
Many of us still do. Although we tend to head to Newcastle for the nightlife. Also anyone who works in construction have these experiences weekly lol. When I worked in construction we'd stay at the cheapest digs possible and end up out on the lash in the evenings, we stopped in places that would make Mrs Cresswells look like a 5 star establishment Had to get in via the fire escape holding a kebab more than once.
Here we gooooo!!!
Let me run this past you Steven, try and get your head around this…
I quote this so much in life 🤣 but obviously I don’t follow it up with a punch…
I cant wait for you to watch the miami twice specials...
i think thats the worst episode
Ruud Gullit ….. Nowhere! Still use that at 5 a side.
Yep me and my brother still quote that regularly 😅
Yes Mike, Yes!!! 😍👍👏👏👏
Mike's Trigger suit 😂😂
Ive got up early especially for this one. Looking forward to this.
All the right words. Not necessarily in the right order.
Suit is perfect Mike!
Very Trigger.
What a classic.
YAAAAAAAAAAAS! Been waiting for this one!!
I thought this was next week! Buzzing. The best episode by a country mile. Max Branning from EastEnders and Horrible Grandma make brief appearances. Horrible Grandma is also in a brilliant show called Gimme Gimme Gimme
What a start cameos in this and one foot in the grave, just cameos in best sitcoms going
I lost my dolphin 🐬
The most perfect comment
