This would have been a superb final episode.
Love to see Mike from the young ones in this
Rock And Chips would be a great follow up reaction after OFAH! Trotter origin’s
I only watched the first episode of rock and chips last week and i was surprised by how amazing it was. i never gave it a proper chance. I loved that it was more serious but still funny and wow yes I hope these guys react to it afterwards!
Aw as soon as i realised it was this episode with THAT ending! I was so giddy to see your reaction to that moment :)
The short guy that's shorter than Del. One of the Driscoll Brothers was also in another great comedy The Young Ones
I am the only person that has rewatched these ?
My second favourite episode! And my favourite coming up. Jolly Boys!
cant wait for dave and jess to watch jolly boys outing its one of the best
6k for a deposit on a flat is about right for back then. You normally have to pay a lump sum in advance even if you get a mortgage.
At the time this was aired it was meant to be the final ever episode so it was extra poignant and ended with the perfect 3 lines. Of course we now know what came after this so the impact isn’t felt in quite the same way as it was then but it’s still emotional.
This is a good watch of uncle Albert 'Buster' https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19NtxGQveY/
Completely blind reactions are the best, when they have nothing to go on but the episode title.
Opinions may differ and I love the original "final" trilogy joint Jolly Boys is the best of the lot. Still many cracking episodes to come. Just hope jolly boys aint been hyped up too much
12:32 Ay Dartford is my hometown. For context Dartford is about 14 miles from Peckham, Rodney's rocket barely made it out of London lol
Jolly Boys is good but dare I say a tad overrated 😬… but Little Problems caps off a fantastic series (series 6) and in my opinion the best series not only of OFAH but in sitcom history.
Can't wait for the Jolly Boys Outing 😁👌🏻👌🏻
👌🐺🐺🐺
Please watch and reach to the show The Royle Family, it's an amazing comedy
One of the funniest moments when he realises he doesn’t live there any more 😂
The fact that you have now watched Series 6; Episode 6: Little Problems, means that the next episode will be Series 6; Episode 7: The Jolly Boys Outing WOOHOO and i really recommend that you watch the end credits of The Jolly Boys Outing because it’s not the usual end credits, it’s just so cool for this particular episode and that’s all i’m gonna say
Such a quality episode and I really enjoyed your reaction, Delboy stepping up and showing what family love is and what lengths it goes to in order to help them. A very high percentage of the comments are all about next weeks episode, honestly do not expect too much from it at all and certainly don't feel the pressure to enjoy it more than you do ,its only a TV show and its not as if it's the best thing ever in the history of humanity like some would have you think it is. I myself love it like any OFAH fan but purely because of the importance of its storyline firstly and the entertainment and comedy secondly. ( can't say anymore without spoiling obviously ) If the version you have is under 1 hour 23 minutes it's been cut, there is a HD 4.3 ratio version of this uncut version available. Avaliable here if needed along with the other uncut episdoes ,not sure if HD though⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://archive.org/details/only-fools-series-6-uncut Lastly, Mike you have a few days to get that blue Trigger suit ready for the episode 👌😁.
The next episode is the Best only fools episode. The Jolly Boys Outing cannot wait for it.
Can’t wait for next week, Jolly Boys outing! Funnily enough I live in Kent about 15-20 minute drive away from Margate so I have the pleasure of being able to visit the same areas the boys go to whenever I like 😁
please react to bad education its so funny
Whats that one about?, never heard of it
Jellied eels have been a pretty staple food in UK until fairly recently, cos the sea that surrounds us is absolutely full of eels
This feels to me like a finishing point for the show. and if it was then it ended well. BUT we got more and I'm glad for that :)
First saw this when I was 12/13, and now at almost 50, I'm still in love with this show. Those acting gems from Nicholas and David are just heart-wrenching. I don't know if it's because I grew up watching them, so they feel like family, or because it's just such good acting, but their deep brotherly love has me tearing up all too often. One of the best shows out there.
So glad Rodney didn’t end up a ‘snue gliffer’ Always makes me laugh that line 🤣
Always wake up on a Sunday Morning and look for the Only Fools reaction notification and when it’s there I say “Yes, get in there!!!!” 😊 Another great reaction guys and can’t wait for the Jolly Boys next week. Without giving anything away, the place the boys go to is a big part of my childhood as I lived about 40 miles away 😊👍
At least Del Boy got a free briefcase and pair of bicycle clips to flog down the market after Rodney's visit.... 😊
I love how trig didn’t want to leave del to face the music ❤️
True friend
That scene at the wedding reception when Rodney almost looks for Del's approval to leave and Del's little nod of consent breaks me everytime😪, 'Simply Red/Holding Back The Years' playing in the background is so poignant.... Roll on next Sunday for 'The Jolly Boy's Outing'🍻
Love rewatching the series with you guys, started watching on YouTube and switched to this to get the full episode… Rodney Charlton Trotter, Marlene ask’s if he was a named after Heston, no Athletic… Charlton Athletic is a football club “soccer team” 😂…
Jesus, 6k deposit is fairly hefty even back then. Can relate though, I'm trying to save for a deposit on my tod at the moment
Apologies if this has been mentioned before but the actress that plays Cassandra’s mother is actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s mum
Mike and Jess strap in for the next Xmas 1989 special 'The Jolly Boys Outing' (not set at Xmas in the episode) , get your Cotton Candy as you say in the US (Candy Floss), extravagant cocktails and Summery shirts/hats on LOL. Also keep you're eyes peeled and pay attention to all the fleeting side characters.
The jolly boys outing next, be aware there’s two different versions, the original which is longer, and uncut, and the one they made for uktv their commercial channel with a large chunk of a scene taken out!
FYI Mike and Jess, someone may have mentioned it but when Rodney says 'all the prospects of a Sinclair C5' he is referring to a ridiculous 1-person, open-top (ideal for the British weather) plastic bodied electric car invented by an English inventor Clive Sinclair. Surprisingly it never took off. Just google 'Sinclair C5' and look at pictures of it to see what I mean. He also designed an early home computer the 'Spectrum' which a few lads in my school had in the early 80's, you had to hook it up to a TV. Also Cliff Richard is a long-time pop singer, since the 50's, christened the English Elvis Presley for his rock 'n' roll records who has aged very slowly.
I love stewed eels with pie and mash (and chilli vinegar), but can’t get on with jellied eels - remember trying some from Tubby Isaacs stall (which was an iconic London institution I believe)
No spoilers but how excited are we all for next week's reaction to the jolly boys outing?!!
Ah mate this is amazing . You should put in the actual comments
16th of August, Jess. Tonight I’ll be watching the ‘68 Comeback Special in honour of the King 🙌❤️
Notice that Rodney forgot his briefcase as he dashed out
Less of the jocks though man. Scots will suffice ✌️🏴
If you’re doing the ‘jolly boys outing’ next week make sure you pick the right file, there’s a version that takes a big chunk out of one of the scenes that was made for uktv the BBC’s commercial channel! The longer version should be the one that originally aired on bbc one!
Canny wait! 👊
fancy putting you're head on upside down
Hi hooooooooooooo!
Quality! I've got massive smile on my face. Thanks for this one. 🙏
This is the episode where you realised how much Del sacrificed for Rodney, how much he loves his brother. Jolly boys next get inn
In this episode. there was the reference to jellied eels. The eels are a traditional London East End dish made from freshwater eels. They are popular because eels were once plentiful in the Thames and were a cheap source of food. The eel is cut into pieces and boiled in seasoned water. As it cools, the natural gelatine from the eel causes the liquid to set into a soft jelly around the pieces of fish. They are normally eaten cold, often with vinegar and white pepper. The eel itself is quite mild and slightly oily, while the jelly has a salty, fishy taste. I have tried eating them and I have to say it is an acquired taste because of its cold, slippery, jelly texture.
Got my episodes mixed up and was expecting the Jolly boys today ! But this was a great episode and watch along x
The comedian at Rodney’s stag do was the real warm-up comedian who performed for the studio audience prior to the filming of the episodes. He previously appeared as the police officer ‘Parker’ in the episode ‘To Hull and Back’
"Gregory" as in Gregory Peck - Neck
Great reaction. Does anyone know what the next episode is please?
Should be the Jolly Boys Outing
Next episode can't wait!
Jolly boys outing next, can't wait.
Can't wait for next week!!
Best Fancy Dress Ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e341sN1ENaU
Big thank you keep up the good work
I have seen this episode sooo many times and i have never noticed Boycie being really close to Cassandra in the background.
Nor me. Maybe it's why she was kissing goodbye to everyone but bypassed Boycie on the way out 🤭
You know whats coming up.jolly boys outing cant wait for that you will love it.it really is proberly the best episode.cheers guys👍🇬🇧
You guys make my weekend complete. Reacting to a show that has got me through in hard times. Show hits me hard as someone who has raised a sister all my life who has a learning disability and there’s always the moments in life I wonder what if. But I then also feel so blessed she’s been in my life so long and I wouldn’t change either. Can’t wait for the jolly boys outing episode. Much appreciation guys
Nice to see you're opinion of dell has changed, i remember when you said he was a terrible brother and a racist
I wonder where he got the impression Del was a racist?!!! Thats ludicrous.
I'd never seen this one before - loved it. And Jellied Eels are great - but you have to be a cockney born and bred and brought up in the fifties in East London to appreciate them. Like me :-)
Please please please make sure you have the full cut for the next episode. Its a gooden!
The Driscoll Brothers were obviously a mock up of the Kray twins, who were real life gangster brothers that terrorised London in the 60s (probably the most infamous English gangsters of the modern age). They also had the big brother (Ronnie Kray) and the shorter brother (Reggie), although Reggie was perhaps a bit more vicious than Tony Driscoll and was responsible for murder! There's also a fantastic mock up sketch of the Krays in Monty Python, called the Piranha Brothers 😂 Worth checking out.
I don't want to have to wait a whole week for the next one 😭😭
A wonderful, wonderful episode with a reaction to match.
Maby you should do a reaction video to trying jellied eels 👀😂
Del got Casandras dad Alan drunk not the teacher who he bribed for the diploma. The 6k deposit was for a mortgage.
We understood who he got drunk and who he bribed, thanks for clarifying 😅
The little guy (Tony Driscol) plays a character called Mike in The Young Ones. A slapstick, riotous 80s British comedy with Rick Mayall and Ade Edmondson. 4 students living in a flat. Absolutely outstanding.
Samaritans is a suicide hotline
The great thing about this show is you never know which way the writer will take you , pure genius , pure class , pre hilarios comedy writing g ❤️
The line about the brothers dad's attempted suicide was something I never understood as a kid. Once it's clicked, it was one of the funniest mental images ever 🤣 😂
Yes! Mike/Jess: what the UK calls braces (for trousers), the US calls suspenders.
Re. the Sinclair C5 - someone has already posted a picture of it here. Clive Sinclair was a remarkable guy, and at a time when home computers were available, but cost a month's salary, was determined to make a computer for £99.99. He did so - the ZX80. It was, basically, crap. But enough people bought it to kick off the home computer industry in the UK. He was more of an inventor than a manufacturer or businessman, and wasted a lot of time and money on dead end products such as the C5. There is an excellent BBC 4 dramatisation of his rivalry with Chris Currie of Acorn Computers, played by Martin Freeman (Tim in The Office): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXBxV6-zamM
Del is a real one.
Yippee bring on next one Jolly Boys Outing
Just for some context for Mike & Jess. The story about the Driscoll brother’s dad trying to hang himself in jail using his braces (I think you call them suspenders?). Being elasticated he bounced and smashed his head on the ceiling.
Next is the Jolly boys outing . An absolute class Episode
You guys haven't had to get £6k for a deposit for a house. You need about 25k here today. Crazy
Different terminology used her when renting or buying. Renting you out a deposit down, and when buying you put a down payment. We thought he was putting down 6k for a rental. We've never owned a home, so 6k deposit sounded insane
Back when these shows first aired you didn't pay for any education - not even University. It was all free, including examinations.
Still the case here in Scotland.
im already too excited for next Sunday. Next one is one of my faves!
Let's calm down a little. Yes, Jolly boys outing has legendary status in the OFaH world but it's been over hyped on here for people that haven't seen it yet. Yes Mike and Jess will enjoy it and we're all excited to watch it on Sunday but I just hope we haven't built it up too much. That said, bring on Sunday!!
Bang on 👍
to be fair, jellied eels are lovely!....Provided that after cooking them...you dont bother putting them in jelly. Not sure why the need to take some nice fish....then submerge it in gelatin and cool it down
Some references you didn't get: - Samaritans is a suicide prevention charity in the UK. - Sinclair C5 is a small, one person, pedal tricycle that was brought out in the 80's but was ridiculed and was a massive flop. - "Desmond TuTu" is a famous South African bishop, and like "Nelson Mandela House", all the estate tower blocks in Del and Rodney's area are named after something or someone african. Like Juney from the episode before Grandad died. She lived at "Zimbabwe House" I think that's the ones that you guys didn't get, if I missed any, I'm sure someone else will comment :)
The whole estate is called the Nyrere estate too.
Holding back the years is one of my top 5 songs and always think of only fools when i hear it
Where do you watch these, just curious as they censored 'horseshit sandwich'. Curious about next week's episode if you have the fully uncut version, all VHS and dvds were cut but TV versions and the most recent blu ray are uncut. Only censored for music rights, but it was nearly a whole 5 minute scene cut!!
"they censored 'horseshit sandwich'." That was only for daytime TV showings. The fact that it ended up on some streaming services is a proper shame.
The £6k deposit is a deposit for a mortgage, not to rent
Gregory. Gregory Peck. Neck. Add it to the rhyming slang library.
They dubbed out Tony Driscoll saying horse 'shit' in this version
Think I've seen this version somewhere before. This is more the reason to keep physical media.
pretty sure the deposit if for a mortgage, back in the time when you get married and just get a mortgage straight away
You’re in for a treat for the next episode. I personally think its one of or even the best episodes.
Still one of the best third acts in this show. Apparently the director wanted to do the overhead shot of del alone after everyone left outside but they didn't have enough budget to do it so it was done on set.
I love being in Scotland, where education is free! We don’t pay to study, to take exams. University Tuition: Tuition is free for Scottish-domiciled and eligible home students doing their first undergraduate degree. The Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) pays the tuition fees directly for those who meet the three-year residency requirement.
I agree with you there mate. A disgrace that hadrians wall should be a barrier to education. A really crass move by snp. Education should be for all.
It's ridiculous how excited I am to watch your reaction to next week's episode. These Sundays don't come around quick enough 😆
Fantastic episode, can’t wait for next week🙌🏻
I've forgotten I've moved and went to my old house like Rodney did. Twice. Once at 4am drunk. I couldn't get my key in the door so I rang the bell and woke up the family that moved in after me
On Rodney's failed exam- At the time this was made, there was no charge for college or university education in the UK, it was paid out of general taxation like schools.
I got that. I was speaking to my experience and how I would feel, not that Rodney felt like that or had to pay
I think it’s worth noting that the Driscoll’s gave Del more time because he looked after their Mum with grocery’s and coal when he was just a kid and she had no one. Del’s heart has always been in the right place but the shows story is more about the dodgy dealings of an ambitious guy with no education. I think we Brits understand this more because most of us never watched the show in order like you guys. I was born the year the show started, by the time I saw the earlier episodes Del didn’t seem like such a crook because I always knew a Del who had a heart of gold.
It will be great if they can get the original version of the Jolly Boy’s Outing but I suspect it will be a dvd version that has a 4 minute chunk edited out for music licensing reasons and some of the music altered. So could be slightly different to what we are used to seeing on tv in the UK. Will still be an epic episode.
Absolutely . The high definition version too . Yeah the bits they cut out are important scenes too . I think they will they’ve always reacted to the full cut versions so wouldn’t expect anything less especially with this being one of the most famous episodes .
What a great episode and reaction. One of my absolute favourites. Simply Red’s holding back the years fits that final moment so perfectly. Such a brilliant choice of song. ❤️ Del really shows just how incredibly selfless he is in this episode. After all those years of bringing Rodney up and sacrificing so much for him, he still doesn’t hesitate to take another beating to protect his little brother. Beneath all the schemes, jokes and bravado, moments like this show just how much Rodney means to him. 🫶🏼❤️ One of those episodes that reminds you Only Fools and Horses could be genuinely moving as well as hilarious.
I could’ve been a snue gliffer… So many great moments in this one. The phone up the nose has me creasing every time 😅
The Jolly Boys Outing is next, cant wait
Great Episode. Omg Jolly Boys Outing next week. Legendary.
confusion on rent or buy. that 6 grand was the deposit for mortgage .back in the day you would pay 10% of deposit on value of the property you were going to buy. i think it is still used here today .mind you most of it goes to your solicitor which is a rip off.
“What a guy” - Del won Mike over and we love to see it. Love this episode - the final shot of Del alone at the reception while Holding Back the Years plays has always stuck with me.
God I really hope we haven't over-hyped Jolly Boy's Outing for Mike and Jess
If I’m really honest as much as it’s a classic and top tier , I think it’s ever so slightly over hyped . Probably get heat for that comment. I’ve seen a few other reactors react to it saying as good as it is , it’s not their favourite only fools epioside and was expecting slightly better because of the hype. I thinks it’s top 5 but I still think to hull and back and chain gang better . Just my opinion though .
They feel real, not characters in a comedy. That's why the show is so beloved. The episodes upcoming continue the 50min or feature length form and just grows and grows. So much drama, comedy and emotion still to come guys!
Cassandras mum played by Wanda Ventham Mother of Benedict Cumberbatch.
No way! I never knew this
Cannot wait for the next episode - my favourite!
This is such a great episode, so good to see it again and getting to see your reaction at the same time.
I’ve never had jellied eels (and never will) but they are a cockney ‘delicacy’ in the working class east-end of London. They are what they sound like -ugh! Savoury Pies are very common in England but in the East-end it is traditional to have Pie, Mash(potato) and Liquor(in this case a parsley sauce).
I told you S1E1, Mike.. don’t worry.. you will grow to love Del.
No spoilers, please.
One of the most perfect OFAH episodes 🥰 Del Sacrificing himself to make sure Rodney gets his money, the look that Del and Rodney give each other across the room 🥹 and above all Nick Lyndhurst drunk acting is on point.. And the jolly boys outing next week is gonna be epic.. literally a perfect 10/10 episode incoming
One of my favourite scenes in Only Fools and Horses is the wedding reception with Simply Red playing.
I'll keeeeeep holding onnnn 😇
The actress who plays Pamela, Cassandra's mum is Benedict Cumberbatch's mother. He looks very much like her as well.
To be fair Rodney did warn Del about the Trotters independent traders sign in “a slow bus to Chingford”
And behind you in 30ft neon lighting is the word TIT 🤣
The actress who plays Cassandra's mum is the real life mother of Benedict Cumberbatch.
Really? That’s some good trivia! ❤️
I so can't wait for next weekends reaction. 😁
The scene with del at the end always gets me
Sinclair C5 was a electric bike from 1985 that was a huge failure as it was so low down that car exhausts blew smoke in the riders faces.
The part of Danny Driscoll was actually written for Anthony Hopkins and he was up for playing it because he was a fan of the show. But unfortunately, he had to turn it down because he had just been offered a role and some indie film called ‘Silence of the Lambs’ so, God knows what happened to his career after that.
I think it worked better having one tall and one short, a bit like Del and Rodney, Roy Marsden did a great job as Danny
That’s a 6000 quid deposit to buy not to rent
Always one Plonker
This episode is when Del reached legendary status for me. Has his flaws but his heart is in the right place and he’s ultimately as loyal as they come to his family.
💯
i will say a 6 grand deposit on a flat would be crazy now, let alone in 1989!!
I assume they were buying the flat not renting it though. Still a lot for the time though I guess.
Mickey Pearce and Jevon’s injuries weren’t originally in the script. In between this and the previous episode, Patrick Murray put his hand through a pane of glass and severely sliced his arm and had to go hospital. At first, he was upset because he thought that he wouldn’t be able to do the episode now, but John Sullivan went back and wrote in his damaged arm into the script so that Patrick wouldn’t have to miss filming.
I really enjoy these reactions, it’s like watching it again for the first time. My all time #1 comedy, and many people’s no doubt. Thank you 🇬🇧
Might be my favourite time of the week! Watching these with you guys is breathing new life into them for me, and I've watched them excessively over the years haha
I rewatch them all week until a new episode drops
Loving these only fools reactions! It’s reignited my love for the show
