Skateboard design, part 3
Finishing up these series of posts with the final finished art for the skateboard I was asked to paint on for an upcoming fundraiser to build a new skate park here in town.
I wanted to put all my cartoon characters from my life in the mix, with the vibe of a piece of notebook paper cus that's where this all started from me: Bored at school and doodling when I shoulda been taking notes. All done with acrylic paint markers and, foolishly, some alcohol-based black pens that smudged unceremoniously when I tried to apply varnish to the board. Thankfully, it was salvageable and I got a spray that works for both acrylic and ink, tho I still managed to smudge it some more. Some quick fixing and no body is the wiser (I don't have any pictures for after all that kerfuffle, it's already in the hands of people putting on the show).
This was a lot of fun to see something so physical and finished, done by my own hands. Emotional too, when I messed up and fixed what I could and everyone said "It looks great" regardless. Nice to know that, even when I feel out of my element.
The fundraiser event is in June, so maybe I will have more photos of my board and others then. For now, I can close the books on this project.
