Can you help me with this little whim?

I have managed to acquire a "new" laptop, which is a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ALC6. The "new" designation is in quotes since I bought it at a pawn shop. In fact, I had not planned to buy it, since I recently acquired a new Wacom graphics tablet, an Intuos with Bluetooth.

Finally, this request is for anyone who feels generous and wants to donate the 1123 Mexican pesos that the hard drive costs (approximately 56 US dollars). Since the laptop was tampered with before it was pawned, and according to Lenovo's official website, it had two hard drives: a 250 GB M.2 and a one terabyte HDD, when I tested it it had a 500 GB HDD and did not have the M.2.

And the strangest thing is that the laptop was only 3 months old since it was activated (if it was pawned new), but apart from the storage, the laptop has very good features.

  • A Ryzen 5 with 6 cores and 2 threads at 4Ghz

  • Supports 20 Gb of Ram (and has 4 Gb soldered)

  • Fingerprint Reader

  • Keyboard at 75% (includes numeric pad)

  • One PCIE 4.0 input

  • USB Type A and C 3.1 inputs

  • The screen left a lot to be desired.

All that cost me 5,000 Mexican pesos (approximately $247), and this laptop was selling for 17,500 Mexican pesos (approximately $864).

"What, you can't afford to buy one?"

Dude, if I could afford it I wouldn't be begging.

Don't think you'll be leaving empty-handed, as I will refund you the months corresponding to the amount you donated, at the level you wish (as if you were paying for an annuity), plus 1 to 6 additional months, depending on your choice.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the bottom line: I want to buy an M.2, but I can't afford it as I have a lot of expenses for the rest of the year and the next. If you're willing to help me out, I'll reimburse you with months of subscription for the amount you determine at the level you want and an additional six months.

In order to reduce my loading time, I will use the game The Sims 4 an example. From booting to getting to the main menu, the process takes between 7 and 15 minutes, and from there to starting the game, it takes another 7 to 15 minutes. Currently, I installed the SSD from my old laptop and the game took 3 minutes. So it is worth investing in this laptop, since it will allow me to work with larger volumes of work at the same time, and I do not have to be closing programs every time I want to try the mods.

This would be a great help in improving work times.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to thank Bridget Billington from the bottom of my heart for donating that amount of money.

For the other components, I will pay for them with my own effort, such as changing the RAM (I now have 12Gb since I got rid of the 8Gb from the old laptop), buying a mouse, etc. I will not only use this laptop to make modifications, but also to keep track of and create patient documents at the clinic where I work. Although they provided me with a tablet for this, I prefer to have a physical keyboard, especially when writing.

I will continue with the dynamic that if you donate an amount X, I will reimburse you in the remaining months to cover the amount, plus some additional ones, since my Patreon is not yet valid for making annual payments. Since some of you were wondering how I could pay for the entire year, well this dynamic will be a substitute for that type of donations.

I am aware that I am 2 months late. Without any intention to downplay you nor any intention to diminish the essence of your post, I think there are some things that you should take note of. Just take this as a kindly reminder. The symbol of lowercase b and uppercase B refers to two different units, one is bit and the other is byte. When converted, there are 8 bits in every byte (8 b = 1 B), and you can't use those units interchangeably without converting the values first. As for the transfer speed, both the shortened version of "per second" (/s and ps) can be used by both units interchangeably, they are not the things that differentiate the two units (some people have mistakenly do this). Things like RAM, VRAM, and Storage capacity generally always use byte unit, so it's kinda incorrect when you say you have 12 "Gb" of RAM, that would be equal to 1.5 GB (which was only common back in Windows XP to Windows 7 era, 4GB would be the minimum that you'd find on anything newer than Windows 8-based system, and 8GB is the current minimum for most Windows 11-based system). While transfer speed like internet connection and whatnot usually tends to use bit unit instead, but sometimes it still uses byte in some scenarios like when you copy files. The main point is, you should be more consistent when typing those units. Next, M.2 is only the connector type, as there exist M.2 SATA (NGFF) and M.2 NVME which are two different protocols that use similar connectors. Some newer M.2 sockets can support both protocols, but some older ones can only support NGFF. So you must make sure of which M.2 that you are talking about. Judging from the picture included in the post, I guess it's safe to assume that you are talking about M.2 NVME. Now, about that Kingston NV2 SSD, I had to say that it's rather widely known as one of the worst performing NVMEs, it's highly NOT recommended to be bought. It's slow when compared to competitors with similar price, it runs hot, and it's not really power efficient to be installed on a laptop (high idle wattage consumption), its durability rating (TBW) is also rather low for its price. There are tons of other better options, often priced much lower than NV2. Although, there is a bottom line here. Currently, there are no games and applications (outside of creative workloads like video editing) that actually able to saturate the full speed of any NVME. Literally almost all of them can only saturate at half of SATA 3 protocol's theoretical maximum speed (6 Gbps or 750 MB/s).

Hey, I'm glad someone else already donate for the drive, I'd like to contribute a one time donation but I don't see an option for that. I'll do a lump sum for a month upgrade but I don't need any rewards for it. Wish you the best. Hope things get better for you. Feliz Navidad

I will give you the 56 USD, and you need to do nothing in return. I am simply blessed to be a blessing to others. How do I donate to you?

It was through here on patreon, editing the amount to donate, but Bridget Billington already gave me that amount, if you still want to help by donating a much smaller amount it is welcome. So many things have happened that have really forced me to change my lifestyle, especially for the sake of my daughters.

Yes they are, but mass storage or for having backup copies they are perfect.
