City Row
Hey everyone—this month’s maps are going to be a little different from the norm. As I mentioned in my last post, I wanted to build more locations that naturally fit within the city of Longgate, so I set out to create something especially useful there. The goal with this pack is a modular street that works as a standalone road, rooftop, and alley map, but can also be customized to suit your table’s needs. This release is the foundation of that modular system, with future packs focused on how you fill and transform it.
Coming next will be modular tiles for interiors and select exteriors that layer over the base map—homes, shops, workshops, hideaways, and more—so you can shape the space to match your story. I’ve explored a similar idea before with the modular Dojo, if you’d like an example, but this version is larger and designed to be something I can continually expand as new ideas and needs arise.
I’d love to hear any suggestions for interiors or additions you’d find useful at your tables.
Cheers,
Nate | Bearworks
City Row is a tangle of narrow streets and crowded rooftops where the city breathes, whispers, and watches. Weathered stone and overlapping tiles tell the story of generations packed tightly together, while carts, crates, and hidden courtyards hint at lives lived in haste and secrecy. Footsteps echo off cobblestones as a chase spills from street to roof, a deal goes wrong in a shadowed alley, or steel is drawn beneath shuttered windows. In City Row, every corner is a choice, every rooftop a gamble, and every moment one step closer to glory or a fatal fall.
Notes:
Living Streets: City Row is crowded and vertical, with narrow alleys, shared walls, and rooftops that see as much traffic as the streets below, encouraging chases, ambushes, and split encounters.
Environmental Hazards: Uneven cobblestones, slick rooftiles, dangling awnings, and stacked crates can slow movement, block sightlines, or be knocked over to create sudden obstacles.
Tactical Terrain: Multiple elevations, tight corners, and rooftop access points reward positioning, flanking, and control of high ground over brute force.
Possible Loot: Hidden coin stashes, smuggled goods, thieves’ tools, climbing gear, and the occasional minor enchanted item meant for stealth or mobility can be found throughout the district.
Creatures & Enemies: Thieves’ guild enforcers, street gangs, watch patrols, or a lone rooftop assassin know the terrain and use it aggressively.
Encounter Hook: A theft or botched deal sparks a running battle through City Row, forcing the party to pursue, escape, or intervene as the chaos spills from street to rooftop.
