Longgate — Where Stone Walls Meet the Sea
This map is a bit of a departure for me. I usually focus on encounter-first battlemaps—tight spaces and tactical clarity—but Longgate pushed me toward something broader. Instead of a single moment, this is a place: a city meant to be explored, revisited, and built upon.
The goal is to create battlemaps that exist within a larger world—streets, docks, taverns, warehouses, and hidden spaces that all fit naturally inside Longgate’s walls. I want you to be able to point to a district, say “it happens here,” and drop seamlessly into a battlemap that truly belongs.
This is me stretching a bit, experimenting with scale and storytelling, and laying the groundwork for cities that don’t just host encounters—but give them context.

What Would You Like to See Next?
If you like this direction, I’d love your input. Are there other overworld maps you want to see—cities, regions, trade routes, frontier towns? Or specific battlemaps to plug into Longgate: dockside ambushes, markets, guard barracks, noble estates, sewers, or something unexpected?
Let me know what spaces you want to play in, and I’ll use that to guide where Longgate—and future maps—go next.
Hope you all can put this to use in your games!

Longgate rises from the coast, its weathered walls following the curve of the shoreline. Salt hangs in the air. Gulls cry overhead. From creaking docks to crowded streets, the city hums with trade, tension, and watchful eyes.
Ships arrive heavy with coin, rumors, and trouble. Inside the gates, the city tightens into a maze of stone and timber—narrow alleys spilling into guarded plazas and well-worn roads. Each district carries its own character: old money and new trade, honest labor and quiet crime, ambition pressed close to fear.
Longgate doesn’t reveal itself all at once. It must be walked, watched, and survived.
City Breakdown & Adventure Hooks
Harbor & Docks: A ship arrives with its crew missing and its cargo intact. Dockworkers refuse to board it, claiming something still moves below deck after nightfall.
Walled Districts: A neutral alley becomes the flashpoint for a brewing turf war after a murder no faction will claim. Whoever controls the truth will control the streets.
Civic Quarters: A city clerk vanishes after altering a single line in a public ledger. The change is small—but multiple powerful people are desperate to undo it.
Gates & Main Roads: Travelers pass through one gate without inspection, yet never appear elsewhere in the city. The gate guards insist no one unusual has entered.
Beyond the Walls: Farmsteads outside Longgate are abandoned overnight, meals left untouched. A hidden passage into the city is discovered nearby—recently reopened.
Using Longgate in Your Game
A Living Hub City: Longgate works best as a recurring base of operations. District reputations shift based on player actions, factions gain or lose territory, and familiar streets can become safer—or far more dangerous—over time.
Urban Intrigue & Conflict: The dense layout supports alley chases, rooftop pursuits, tailing suspects through crowded markets, and sudden violence in tight quarters. Guards, witnesses, and bystanders are always close enough to complicate any plan.
Arrival Point or Last Refuge: The city can serve as a first port of call, a neutral meeting ground, or a last safe haven. Players might arrive by ship with nothing but rumors, slip through the gates while being hunted, or defend Longgate when the walls are tested.
System-Agnostic & Adaptable: Longgate easily fits high or low fantasy, historical-inspired settings, or gritty, low-magic campaigns. Districts can be reskinned as noble wards, guild territories, or criminal enclaves without changing the map.
