Important development news

Hi guys,

When it rains it pours, or so they say. Last time I told you about how I was falling behind with ORS' production due to burnout and some other issues and now I got the "unspecified virus of unknown origin", I've spent most of the week in bed feeling like shit, so production hasn't exactly ramped up.

I've been thinking about it for a while and I've decided that starting February I will put all charges on my page on hold. I feel I'm not giving you enough value for your money at this moment and it doesn't sit right with me.

I've said in the past that I'm the one looking forward to new releases the most, and that I really wish I could still publish every single month. I can't wait to realize the ideas I have for ORS and there are also several other projects in the back of my mind I'd love to bring to life at some point too. Taking too long to release a new chapter becomes stressful to me, especially considering this business model: a monthly subscription deserves to be rewarded by a flow of continuous content, and ORS is far from a finished piece. That means that work is never over, and as soon as the last chapter is released, pressure to get the next one ready starts lighting a fire under my feet. I've already talked about it in previous posts, but after more than 4 years of uninterrupted work and due to other personal issues, I found myself feeling quite burnt out after Chapter 9.

I know some of you kindly warned me about that pitfall but I guess I just ran with it because that was the only way I was able to keep myself on the loop, and I still stand by that choice. And because I want to get back in that loop, I want to feel at ease to keep working on this big project. I take your support really seriously, so the constant anxiety of delivering content worthy of your hard earned money has been eating at me. I'm not sure if I'm shooting myself in the foot here, but I think it's the right thing to do and it'll help me get back into things with less stress.

That doesn't mean production will stop. I still want to release as much content as soon as possible. I haven't been able to do that recently, so I'm looking to turn that around. So rest assured I will continue to work to bring you quality content and finish ORS like I've always intended to do. The review of the first 9 chapters + Stan's integral rework should not take much longer (it's already taken too long), followed by that Steam release I always talk about and I haven't been able to make a reality yet.

This was hard to write, I hope I did a good job. I know this is far from ideal and I hope I didn't make things sound worse than they actually are. There's a lot of cool stuff coming for ORS, I just want to get it out more efficiently. As always, I want to keep things open and transparent when it comes to the game's development. I'll keep you posted, so stay tuned for next week.

Thanks a bunch guys!

i think you should take a break if you are burn out, you should relax for a month or two, don't be afraid to feel we will unsub if you take a break, i think most of us are here so to help you finish your product so we are here for the long run.

Thanks for letting us know how you feel and what your plans are. You really did a good job and I can relate to the feelings you described. Usually, I would agree with the other patreons, wich suggested to keep collecting money from everybody. I would not mind at all and really have trust in you and your good will. But that's exactly the problem, isn't it? It builds up pressure because everybody believes in you: "You won't let us down!" But when you collect the money and feel the need to take a day off, you instantaniously feel bad because it feels like you let us down. If there is a small delay, you feel like letting us down. Of course, it is a good thing to take a day off and most of us (if not all) agree that you should take care of yourself, but a bad conscience does not listen for reasons, does it? So I think you may be right and skipping a month could be worth a shot in order to calm your conscious down (even if it is not neccessary at all from a objective point of view!) and let you get some breath. But please make sure this is a "one time" thing. There is no good in it if it builds up a restart-barrier like "is the next update really good enough to justify a restart of collecting money? Or should I do even better" - a vicious circle. Most of the times, Burn Out affects not the lazy ones, but the perfectionists. The best I could advise is to try hard not trying to be that perfect ;) . Yeah, easy said. The other advise is to go search for professional help even in early stages. If a professional tennis player has an aching arm, he should not wait until it falls off, but go see the doctor as soon as possible in order to keep the need for a threatment down. If you do some exercises for relaxation early on, you have a chance not to fall down to deep into that pit and get out of it quiet "easily". Some people might have problems with beeing stigmatized, but I see it just as professional help - like a surgeon or a car mechanic. Lastly, I think it is better to "make things sound worse than they actually are" and do better as expecten than building up high expectations and failing to deliver. "The review of the first 9 chapters + Stan's integral rework should not take much longer (it's already taken too long)" sounds great - I would not have expected a release before april because even replaying the complety game once in one path and carefully reading most of it takes a lot of time. You are doing really well :) .

Getting the professional help to battle the burn out and other issues is actually a very good idea.

Eva, I can't speak for everyone, but from my perspective you have built up *a huge amount* of goodwill. GGGB was life-changing for some of us, and ORS is shaping up to be even better. I know how complex Chapter 9 was, so it's completely understandable that you need to recover from what must have taken a huge amount of time and effort. Please take all the time you need to feel well again.

Wish you all the best. I’ve never seen creator like you here on patreon, you are so honest with everyone and all of us respect it. Just relax, take your time and care yourself, a lot of supporters as I saw it, want to support you anyway. Everyone here know one the most general rule if you as a creator feel good and happy, that’s mean all of us seen unbelievable result as you give us always. Take care yourself.

Take good care and carry on !!👍🏻👊🏻

Eva, please, please don't put payments on hold. There are creators who haven't posted anything in literal years and are still collecting money. Out of all erotic game creators, you are number one and deserve support more than anyone, especially during rough times. No human being on the planet is 100% efficient all the time. People get sick or burnt out, but they still go to work and collect a paycheck. Hell, I'd say that's when people need a paycheck the most. I think it's unfair to your patrons to not even get a chance to support you in February. On an unrelated note, please consider creating a SubscribeStar account in addition to your Patreon account. Patreon is becoming more and more restrictive with their content. Case in point: Iris's storyline in GGGB was my most favorite part of the game. Patreon now wouldn't allow that. Basically, it's a way to future-proof your income; if Patreon decided to suddenly ban all erotic content, you would still have a SubscribeStar account all up and working. All the creators I support have a SubscribeStar account now, and I support all of them on that website. I'd rather give my money to SubscribeStar than the morality police of Patreon.

MickSlash · January 29, 2022

This, SubscribeStar > Patreon. I hope she'll decide to create a SubscribeStar account :)

Julian Harper · January 29, 2022

Rest up and get well soon Eva, don’t worry about the game, it’s worth the wait for us! 🤗

A
Alfred · January 29, 2022

If you think about stopping the patronage for a month why not spending the money on support instead. Maybe for storywriting or programming or sth.?

f
face oupile · January 29, 2022

Take care Eva, love your work and your commitment ! Like I said before, I think that you should find spots where you can delegate. For example, the Steam release... it has nothing to do with drawing, writing story, etc... and I'm sure that someone would be more than happy to help you with that. I've got some friends that love your work and would be more than happy to buy the game on steam... so that could help get some visibility, extra money that would help you put in place the structure you want for your releases :) Anyway. Important thing is : take care !

Wish you a speedy recovery ;健康才是第一位的。

NicoVIII · January 29, 2022

Take care! I personally would further support you in times where you aren't that productive and focussed on getting better. I don't expect content because I pay. I pay because I like what I got so far and want to support that. And I think whoever is not satisfied with your output could easily pause their subscription themselfes. But those are just my 2cents, do what you think is best for you and your health <3

Qookie · January 29, 2022

First of all - Wish you a speedy recovery Eva. I feel for you and if you think holding charges would take some weight off of your conscience then so be it. As many have said though, its not really necessary. Burnt out is bad. I hope you come out of it. You are an amazing talent and you do enjoy what you do. Don't get sucked into deadlines and take things too hard and don't lose the joy in what you do and you'll be back up in no time.

V
Vitreous Humour · January 29, 2022

Hope you feel better, and that when you come back you can find a work pace that doesn't lead to burnout!

B
Breadloaf · January 29, 2022

That sucks, but you need to take care of yourself. I hope that you're vaccinated as well.

J
Jontyllis · January 29, 2022

No worries from me. I recently burnt myself out remodeling my house and I am currently down to one room left to work on and I have zero drive. Hope you feel better! Rest up, clear your mind, and wait until the project calls to you rather than trying to force yourself back onto it.

F
Fera · January 29, 2022

Hope everything works out for you asap and you feel well. I don’t really mind being charged because your work is top notch and I feel like I’m getting more than I am paying for nonetheless. You got this Eva!

Exemplar Gaming · January 29, 2022

Take as much time as you need, sorry to hear your ill, you honestly dont need to put charges on hold, ill happily support you regardless i have done for a while your an amazing creator regardless of the frequency of updates. :)

B
Brother Bethor · January 29, 2022

I'm OK with being charged too. If you really feel you owe us something then think about posting here wallpaper sets with ORS characters or something like that.

W
Wally3030 · January 29, 2022

Take your time. Recharge your battery. Hope you feel better 🙂

K
Kim Taeyeon · January 28, 2022

For myself, I would be happy to be charged.. we are not paying for a product, we are supporting the creator who makes the product. If the creator is battling an unspecified virus in bed for a few weeks then I want my dollars to go to Tylenol! Hope you get better!

J
JON · January 28, 2022

Hope you get better soon and take as much time as you need I’ll always support you no matter what health comes first and I’ll wait how ever it takes and your a really great creator Eva take care thank you for all that you have done so far

emelsi · January 28, 2022

Speaking only for myself, please don't feel the need to put charges on hold. I want to continue to support you. I do not care about your pace of updates, I care about supporting your work in an ongoing basis. Patreon is not how I purchase content, it's how I support creators I like.

Brother Bethor · January 28, 2022

I'm so sorry to hear that you've catched that bug too (if you feel even remotely bad as I did last year when I've got it too...😱) Your health, both physical and mental, should always take precedence. We want this game to be finished but not at cost of it's creator. Please, take care of yourself. It's a very nice artwork! I'm looking forward to see this improved Stan photoshoot in the game.

R
Robert Arctor · January 28, 2022

Get better soon and take all the time you need. Both mentally and physically.

L
Lumin · January 28, 2022

Hope you manage to get well soon! Take it easy and take as much time as you need to recuperate. As a fan, your personal health and well being definitely takes precedence over the game or your patrons. Even if the game were to stop production here entirely, I'd think you still did a great job and that ORS was top of its class. I hope you're not feeling like you let anyone down. Come back to it when you're refreshed and ready, whenever that may be! I would still be excited to see and support your work.
